A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Waterloo Region Thursday.
This comes after a snow squall warning was issued Wednesday night bringing around 12 cm of snow to some areas of Kitchener by midnight.
The weather warning was replaced by a winter weather travel advisory Thursday by Environment Canada, calling for an additional 5-10 cm of snow by late Thursday.
The advisory from the weather authority reads, βThe lake effect snow is expected to gradually weaken (Thursday) afternoon. Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.β
The advisory also advises postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
An additional 2-4 cm of snow is expected Friday and Saturday.
