NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for December 22-28, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of December 22-28, 2024.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)
Year to date, the NOPD has made 414 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 46-percent decrease compared to 768 arrests made during the same period in 2023.
Gun seizures
Additionally, as of December 23, the NOPD in 2024 had seized 2,184 firearms in criminal investigations, a 21-percent compared to 2,776 such seizures made during the same period in 2023.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has released its preliminary crime statistics for the week of December 22-28, 2024. The data shows a slight decrease in overall crime compared to the previous week, with a total of 325 reported incidents.
According to the NOPD, there were 45 reported cases of theft, 30 cases of burglary, and 20 cases of assault during this time period. Additionally, there were 10 reported incidents of vandalism and 5 reported cases of robbery.
While these numbers are still concerning, the NOPD is continuing to work diligently to combat crime in the city and keep residents safe. Increased patrols and community outreach efforts are ongoing in an effort to reduce crime rates and improve public safety.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the NOPD. By working together, we can make New Orleans a safer place for everyone.
