CLEVELAND, Ohio – Clevelanders love their city.
And they love seeing photos of their city. Videos, too.
This is evidenced by what made the cut for the Top 15 non-sports-related posts on cleveland.com’s Facebook page in 2024, plenty of which are photos and videos of and in our city.
cleveland.com’s social media team used reporting tools made available through Social News Desk, a social media management program, to pull data on every single social media post on our Facebook page between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1. From there, we sorted the data for total engagement, which includes Facebook likes, comments and shares, to curate the 15 most popular Facebook posts of the year.
For the purpose of this list, we filtered out sports-specific content, which we’ve shared in a separate story about the top sports posts on Facebook from 2024. That article published on cleveland.com on Dec. 28.

15. Amtrak from Cleveland to Florida
People love the idea of taking a train from Cleveland to Florida. Starting in November, riders are now able to make the journey from Cleveland to Orlando, Tampa or Miami on the same Amtrak train.
14. 50 years since Richfield Coliseum’s debut, 30 years since it was demolished
The Richfield Coliseum leaves an interesting legacy in Northeast Ohio, but there is plenty of nostalgia for the venue, which opened in 1974 and was demolished in 1994.
13. Hollie Strano announces she’s been let go by WKYC
On Thanksgiving in 2023, WKYC and Channel 3 meteorologist Hollie Strano crashed her car into a utility poll in Cuyahoga Falls. She was arrested with a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit. Though she returned to work for the station for over six months, she announced she was let go from WKYC in early September.
12. Video of eclipse totality at Progressive Field
This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime video. On April 8, Cleveland was in the area of totality for the solar eclipse. April 8 also happened to be the home opener for the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. With the two events coinciding, players and fans enjoyed the incredible view of the total solar eclipse in downtown Cleveland from inside the stadium. This video features the entirety of the totality as seen at Progressive Field.
11. ‘Superman’ director James Gunn thanks Cleveland
After filming parts of the upcoming “Superman” movie across downtown Cleveland this summer, director James Gunn thanked the city for its hospitality.
10. Quintessentially Cleveland
A wonderful photo of Terminal Tower lit up in blue and purple behind one of Cleveland’s Guardians of Traffic by local photographer Matt Sexton really grabbed the attention of our Facebook audience.
9. A beautiful fall day in Berea
Our Facebook audience also loved this picturesque fall scene taken by local photographer Gabe Leidy in Berea Falls.
8. Northern Lights over Cleveland from the sky
This was awesome. Shantelle Martinez was flying back home to Cleveland on a Spirit Airlines plane as the Northern Lights appeared over the city, making for these beautiful photos.
7. Meaningless Groundhog Day
So relatable for Ohioans. Yes, the groundhog saw his shadow. No, it meant nothing for our unpredictable weather.
6. Progressive Field opens early for eclipse
As previously mentioned, the Total Solar Eclipse and home opener for the Guardians both took place on the same afternoon, making for some great photos from inside Progressive Field. The ballpark opened a bit earlier than normal so players and fans could take in the total eclipse.
5. Severe weather sweeps through Northeast Ohio
On Aug. 7, we compiled videos taken by our audience of the severe weather that swept through the area. Multiple tornados touched down that day in the Cleveland area, causing devastating damage and power outages that lasted over a week.
4. Cleveland turns into Metropolis for ‘Superman’ filming
As the upcoming “Superman” movie began filming in downtown Cleveland this summer, the city turned into Metropolis, complete with new street signs, building names, bus stops and even police cars.
3. Hollie Strano makes on-air return
After her aforementioned Thanksgiving 2023 car crash, Strano made her on-air return to WKYC Channel 3 in February of this year.
