A dozen Jersey Shore towns have been added to the drone ban issued by the Federal Aviation Authority last month, increasing the number to 57 communities statewide that have been placed under a temporary flight restriction.
Many of the location coordinates posted by the FAA about the Jersey Shore communities include water reservoirs and water treatment plants. Other locations include the Sea Streak Ferry Terminal and the NJFX Carrier-Neutral Data Center in Wall, whose company website says their campus hosts 35 global and U.S. operators, as well as “where the major cloud operators have their global backbones physically connecting to transatlantic cables to Europe and South America.”
Restrictions in Monmouth and Ocean counties went up at the end of December and are in place through much of January, according to the aviation administration. All new restrictions have been cited as “special security reasons” and have come after more than a month of mysterious drone sitings in the state.

The newest restrictions come nearly two weeks after the FAA decided to issue drone flight restrictions at 22 locations in northern and western New Jersey. That initial ban was prompted by concerns by PSE&G over its power infrastructure, Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ, has said.

Recently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that several towns in Ocean and Monmouth counties have been added to the flight restriction list. This decision comes in response to heightened security concerns and the need to protect sensitive areas from potential threats.
Residents and visitors in these areas are advised to be aware of the new flight restrictions and to comply with all regulations set forth by the FAA. This includes refraining from flying drones or any other unauthorized aircraft in the restricted airspace.
The safety and security of our communities are of utmost importance, and these flight restrictions are a necessary measure to help ensure the protection of all individuals in the area. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
