FORT WORTH, Texas — For the 26th consecutive season, OU will play in a bowl game.
This time, the Sooners will take on Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl.
The game kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday at Amon G. Carter Stadium and will be televised on ESPN.
It’s OU’s first appearance in the bowl and its first bowl game against a service academy.
The Sooners (6-6) are trying to avoid their second losing season in the last three years after going from 1999-2021 without any such season.
OU will be without plenty of its key players from the season as defensive stalwarts Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman have opted out to prepare for the NFL Draft while several others have entered the transfer portal.
Navy (9-3) is in a bowl game for the first time since 2019.
The Midshipmen are looking for just their sixth season with 10 or more victories.
Here are The Oklahoman’s staff predictions for the game:

ANCHORS AWEIGH
Midshipmen’s triple option gives Sooners defense playing without Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman fits. Michael Hawkins Jr. and Xavier Robinson are effective on the ground but it’s not enough as Navy pulls it off.

COME SAIL AWAY
Sooners head into the offseason with hard-fought victory against the Midshipmen. Navy option is effective, but Xavier Robinson, Michael Hawkins spur OU run game.

SHIP SHAPE
Michael Hawkins Jr. puts on a good showing at quarterback for the Sooners, but it’s not enough as Navy QB Blake Horvath runs wild on a depleted OU defense, just like he did against Army. A fun Armed Forces Bowl ends with Sooners posting their second losing record in three seasons.

KNOT TOO BAD
With opt-outs and portal defections galore, the Sooners struggle on both sides of the ball. Blake Horvath and the Midshipmen continue their momentum from the Army game and edge out a victory.

MILITARY TIME
Navy controls the clock with its ground game and earns an Armed Forces Bowl win over OU.

OPT-OUT
Navy’s triple-option flummoxes OU in Armed Forces Bowl. Midshipmen control clock, holding on as Sooners miss late field goal.

LAND & SEETHE
Sooners’ disappointing season ends in just that with a depleted roster unable to keep the football away from Navy’s triple-option offense.
As the Armed Forces Bowl approaches, fans of both the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the United States Naval Academy Midshipmen are buzzing with excitement. With the game just around the corner, it’s time to make some score predictions for this highly anticipated matchup.
The Sooners, led by head coach Lincoln Riley, come into this game with a 10-2 record and a high-powered offense led by quarterback Caleb Williams. On the other side, the Midshipmen, coached by Ken Niumatalolo, have had a solid season with a 9-3 record and a disciplined triple-option offense.
Both teams have strong defenses and special teams units, making this game a true test of skill and strategy. While the Sooners are favored to win, the Midshipmen’s unique offensive scheme could pose challenges for Oklahoma’s defense.
My prediction for the final score of this exciting matchup is OU 35, Navy 21. I believe the Sooners’ offense will be able to outscore the Midshipmen’s defense, but Navy’s triple-option attack will keep the game competitive.
