Red Wings sign longtime Griffin, place veteran on IR

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings have signed right wing Dominik Shine to a two-year contract and recalled him to the team.
He is available to make his NHL debut tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
Shine, 31, leads the Grand Rapids Griffins with 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 40 games.
Shine (5-11, 180) has played for the Griffins since 2016-17 following four years at Northern Michigan. He has tallied 72 goals and 170 points 462 AHL games with the Griffins over nine seasons.
Shine’s contract runs through the 2025-26 season.
The Pinckney native currently is the sixth Michigan-born player on the roster — joining Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Andrew Copp, Jeff Petry and Tyler Motte — and the 11th U.S.-born player.
The Red Wings also placed right wing Patrick Kane (upper-body injury) on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 21. Kane will miss his third game in a row tonight.
The Red Wings needed at least one forward because J.T. Compher (upper-body injury) is out and Vladimir Tarasenko (ill) is questionable. Motte (upper-body injury) is expected to return to the lineup tonight
