Postal service updates delivery schedule

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The U.S. Postal Service confirmed delivery service will be temporarily suspended in the Baton Rouge area on Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to current conditions.

According to officials, the postal service continuously evaluates its operations, and they expect normal mail delivery to resume on Thursday, Jan. 23, depending on various factors, such as if temperatures rise above freezing and road conditions improve.

Below is the postal service’s official statement:

“The Postal Service plays an important role in the community, and we are committed to providing the best service possible. When events such as the recent winter storm occur, we make thoughtful decisions regarding delivery and retail operations. We consider the safety of our employees and customers among our highest priorities and work closely with local officials and our safety specialists to help evaluate the local infrastructure, such as power and the condition of the roads on which our drivers and carriers operate. In the Baton Rouge area, local postal officials report that delivery service will be temporarily suspended today, Jan. 22, due to current conditions. The Postal Service continuously evaluates its operations and normal mail delivery may resume, tomorrow Jan. 23, depending on various factors, such as if temperatures rise above freezing and road conditions improve. Mail carriers will make every attempt to deliver to all addresses, as long as it is safe to do so. The Postal Service will keep all mail and packages secured until delivery can be completed. We ask homeowners and businesses to ensure sidewalks, walkways, and steps are clear of ice and snow, to help facilitate safe delivery. We will continue to monitor weather conditions.
