Premier League score predictions and line-ups: How will Gameweek 22 play out?

As we approach another weekend of action in the Premier League, our writers have had a go at naming the starting XIs for the upcoming matches.

There could be late changes or injuries, but our writers have predicted these line-ups given the information available at the time of writing, while Ben Dinnery holds his weekly Fantasy Premier League live Q&A between 4pm and 5pm (GMT) on Fridays with any updates.

We also now have The Athletic’s match predictions model. This uses per-shot expected goals to create an attacking and defensive rating for each team, before employing a data model to simulate upcoming games — accounting for home advantage and giving more weight to recent performances.

The graphics for each match outline the overall probability of a home win, draw, or away win, and provide a matrix of the probability of each scoreline occurring.

It is worth noting that football is random a lot of the time, and quirky scorelines can pop out of nowhere. This model looks to cut through the noise, and predict the likely outcome of a match based solely on each team’s attacking and defensive strength when all other things are equal.

Will it be accurate every time? Of course not, but this analysis does provide you with the tools to make your predictions that little more objective.
