Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom was pleased with the Lilywhites’ game management after 1-0 win over Hull City, their first win at home since 19 October.
“We’ve been far more dominant than that in so many games and only got a point, so I’m really pleased that we’ve come out on top when the margins are really fine.
“We weren’t too bothered if they have the ball but I think we gave them too much respect at the start of the game. I felt we were just slightly off. We didn’t quite get to the ball and we were a little bit behind the press.
“We stood off them a little bit too much, or that might be credit to them, but then, as the first half wore on, we got better and had our moments but we needed to up it in the second half and I thought we did.
“Until the goal, we were building momentum which was really pleasing and then the goal was fantastic from our point of view. I’m really pleased with it. Then we had to defend well and we managed the game really well.”
Preston North End secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hull City in the Championship, with manager Paul Heckingbottom praising his team’s game management.
The only goal of the match came from Emil Riis Jakobsen in the first half, and despite Hull City’s best efforts to equalize, Preston held on to secure all three points.
Heckingbottom commended his players for their discipline and organization, stating that they executed the game plan perfectly. He highlighted the importance of being able to see out the game and praised his team for their resilience and determination.
The win sees Preston move up the table and gives them a much-needed boost in their quest for promotion. Heckingbottom will be hoping that his team can continue to show the same level of game management in their upcoming fixtures.
