Preview: Brown – TCU Athletics


FORT WORTH – No. 11 TCU dips its toes in nonconference waters one final time in 2024-25 with a 2 p.m. tilt vs. Brown on Sunday in Schollmaier Arena.
 
The Horned Frogs are fresh off a 92-52 win at UCF on Dec. 21 in their Big 12 opener. The result marked TCU’s largest margin of victory in 13 seasons of conference membership.
 
TCU has won 23 straight nonleague affairs at home dating back to December of 2022.

  • The Horned Frogs have knocked down 12-or-more 3-pointers 16 times in the last two seasons.
  • TCU is one of three teams ranking in the top five in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (3rd, 1.90) and assists per game (4th, 21.4).
  • TCU ranks second nationally in games with at least 20 assists (nine). 
  • The Horned Frogs average 7.1 blocks per game – a mark that ranks fourth nationally and tops the Big 12 – and rejected seven-plus shots for the ninth time this season at UCF.
  • TCU has held teams to less than 20 points in a half on eight occasions this season, including seven of its nine home victories.

  • Hailey Van Lith, Sedona Prince and Madison Conner are the nation’s second-highest scoring trio, averaging 53.6 points per game. They combined for 60 points in TCU’s 92-52 win at UCF on Dec. 21.
  • Van Lith, Prince and Conner make TCU the lone Big 12 team with three top 15 scorers .
  • Conner became the third Horned Frog to be named Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week on Tuesday. TCU is now the only team in the nation with multiple players who have earned National Player of the Week honors, as Prince and Van Lith received the recognition on Dec. 3.
  • Conner was tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time in her career on Monday. She averaged an NCAA-leading 28.5 points per game and shot 13-26 from distance vs. Samford and UCF.
  • Conner leads the country in 3-pointers (53) and 3-pointers per game (4.1).
  • Conner averages 4.4 three-pointers per game at home. She has connected five-plus times from downtown in nine of her 25 outings inside Schollmaier Arena.
  • Conner leads the nation in games with at least five 3-pointers over the last two seasons with 12.
  • Van Lith is the only player in the country ranking in the top-10 in assists (5th, 84), assist-to-turnover ratio (9th, 3.2) and assists per game (9th, 6.5).
  • Van Lith has finished with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.5 or better seven times this season. She tallied 15 assists in the Frogs’ wins vs. Samford and UCF last week.
  • Van Lith is the only D1 player averaging at least 19 points, six assists and four rebounds per game.
  • Van Lith has dished out at least six assists in 10 games this season, which are the second-most of any player and one shy of the national lead.
  • Prince continues to lead the NCAA in blocks per game (3.8). She rejected four-or-more shots for the 13th time in her TCU tenure vs. UCF.
  • Prince has finished with at least 15 points and 10 rebounds in 11 of her 23 home games as a Frog.
  • Prince is the only player nationwide averaging 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game.
  • Agnes Emma-Nnopu is averaging 9.2 rebounds per game as a starter. She has earned the starting nod in TCU’s last three ballgames.
  • Donovyn Hunter has produced a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio at home. She is one of three Frogs alongside Van Lith and Conner ranking in the top 15 in the Big 12 in the category.
  • Aaliyah Roberson is fourth out of all Big 12 forwards in effective field goal percentage (.677). The figure ranks 14th nationally among players at her position averaging at least 15 minutes per game. 

A Win Over the Bears Would…

  • Mark the second straight season the Horned Frogs have run the table in nonconference play at home.
  • Extend TCU’s home winning streak to 13 games dating back to its 59-49 victory against Houston on Feb. 24.
  • Lift the Horned Frogs to their 23rd consecutive home nonconference win.
  • Enhance Mark Campbell‘s career record inside Schollmaier Arena to 26-4.
  • Make Campbell 25-1 in nonconference affairs in his TCU tenure.
  • Make TCU 12-1 in the month of December in the Campbell era.
  • Improve TCU’s record in games played following a break of six days or more to 8-0 over the last two seasons.
  • Go down as the Frogs’ 114th win inside Schollmaier Arena since the venue reopened in 2015.
  • Augment TCU’s record as a ranked team to 12-3 under Campbell.

Series Notes: Brown

  • Sunday’s contest marks the second time the Horned Frogs will stage their nonconference finale vs. the Bears. TCU’s victory against Brown in 2000-01 was the program’s final nonconference game in its last season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. TCU embarked on a four-year run as a Conference USA affiliate the following season. 
  • TCU senior Janice Thomas led all players with 15 points and six rebounds in the Frogs’ 80-42 win over the Bears in 2001. 
  • The Frogs had eleven players enter the scoring column vs. Brown in the teams’ first and only meeting.
  • TCU bolted out to an 11-0 lead on the way to its 38-point win against Brown to ring in the New Year in 2001.
  • Sunday’s game signifies TCU’s ninth matchup with an Ivy League foe. TCU is 6-2 in the all-time series, with its most recent encounter with the conference occuring on Nov. 10, 2019, in a 59-49 home triumph over Cornell.
  • The impending matchup also represents just the third time TCU and Brown have faced off in any sport. TCU women’s tennis downed the Bears, 7-0, on March 3, 2018, in the schools’ most recent athletic affair.
