Rachel Zegler reacts to claim she’s ‘obsessed’ romantically with ‘Romeo + Juliet’ co-star Kit Connor

This Juliet isn’t in love with that Romeo.

Rachel Zegler clapped back at a critic who claimed she’s “obsessed” with Kit Connor, her co-star in the “Romeo + Juliet” Broadway revival.

The 23-year-old actress defended herself in the comments section of her Dec. 29 Instagram post, which included two photos of Connor, 20, among a picture montage of “moments of joy and dreams coming true.”

“I think Rachel is so obsessed with Kit Connor in a romantic way not just a friend way,” read the fan comment.

Zegler wrote back, “no! moving on.”

Her response has over 3,000 “likes” from other Instagram users, who applauded Zegler for denying the romance rumors.

“I’m so tired of people saying you and Kit like each other romantically you guys just have a really good friendship!!” one fan wrote.

“Kit and Rachel are best friends and they are the best of friends,” another person commented.

A third fan told Zegler, “you sticking up for yourself always is why you’re a dream. I’m obsessed with you.”

Zegler is currently dating actor Josh Andrés Rivera after meeting on the set of “West Side Story.” Connor, for his part, came out as bisexual in November 2022 after feeling pressure from critics who accused him of “queerbaiting” by playing a bisexual teen on Netflix’s “Heartstopper.”

Zegler and Connor now play the titular roles in “Romeo + Juliet,” which marks both stars’ Broadway debuts.

The show officially opened in October and is set to run until February 2025. It’s directed by Sam Gould with music by Taylor Swift’s frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.

Zegler included several behind-the-scenes photos from the Broadway production in her Instagram post.

In one picture, the “West Side Story” actress posed with Connor, who snapped a mirror selfie of the pair.

Another image showed Connor holding Zegler over his shoulders as she gave a thumbs-up to the camera.

Zegler’s post also included shots of her in a green bikini and posing in front of a poster for her upcoming live-action “Snow White” movie.

“Moments of joy and dreams coming true. happy new year, all. be good to each other,” she wrote in her caption.

In an interview with Teen Vogue in October, Zegler talked about how she created a bond with Connor during “Romeo + Juliet” rehearsals.

“We would have lunch together every day. We were working in Brooklyn at the rehearsal studio,” she said. “We’d all go to Whole Foods and get our lunch and come back and eat together. And it was just the bits, the bits began. We love the bits.”

Connor noted that the pair didn’t feel awkward that “there’s a lot of grinding” in their show.

“I think chemistry wise, we naturally just all started to get on really well,” the “Heartstopper” star added.

In The Post’s review of “Romeo + Juliet,” critic Johnny Oleksinski gave the show two out of four stars and said Connor “shines.”

But Oleksinski was less impressed with Zegler and criticized her performance.

“Shakespeare’s words, however, do not come as naturally to Zegler as songs do, and sparks do not fly with Connor’s Romeo,” Oleksinski penned.

Additionally, he described the second half of the show “as hollow as a drum.”
