Red Flag Warning in effect for parts of Arizona; rain chances increase this week

PHOENIX (AZFamily) —High temperatures will hover around 70 degrees this weekend in Phoenix, but a cool-down is coming!

We are tracking our next system, which will bring changes to the state on Sunday evening throughout the work week. Temperatures will fall to the mid to lower 60s Monday through the week, below the average of 69 degrees for this time of the year.

This could also be the first time we get measurable rain in 156 days in Phoenix! The record dry streak is 160 days in 1971-1972. The best chances for rain look to be Monday and late Tuesday into Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for parts of Mohave County Monday morning through Tuesday evening, with a couple of inches of snow possible above 6,000 feet and 1-3″ possible above 4,000 feet.

The Fire Weather Warning in effect for northern and southern Arizona is set to let up Saturday evening, with the wind dying down a bit Sunday. The low-pressure system moving in from the west will bring rain chances to the Valley. But it doesn’t look to be much, only around a tenth of an inch for the lower deserts and close to a quarter of an inch possible in higher terrain areas.

Mountains in Arizona could pick up a couple of inches throughout the week. Models are showing areas like Flagstaff could see 3-4 inches and 1-2 inches possible in areas like Pinetop and Payson.
