Report: Cowboys will waive Ezekiel Elliott

Running back Ezekiel Elliott’s return to the Cowboys is reportedly coming to a close before the end of the regular season.

NFL reporter Josina Anderson reports that the Cowboys will waive Elliott this week. Elliott reportedly asked the team for his release.

Any team could claim Elliott off of waivers and he will be a free agent if no one decides to go that route.

Elliott played his first seven NFL seasons with the Cowboys and returned this offseason after spending 2023 with the Patriots. Elliott ran 74 times for 226 yards and three touchdowns in his 15 appearances this season, so his role was a far more limited one than the one he played in his first stint with the team. Elliott also sat out one game for disciplinary reasons.

In a shocking turn of events, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly set to waive star running back Ezekiel Elliott. According to sources close to the team, the Cowboys have decided to part ways with Elliott due to concerns about his off-field behavior and declining performance on the field.

Elliott, who was once considered one of the best running backs in the league, has seen his production drop off in recent years. Additionally, his off-field antics, including multiple run-ins with the law and suspensions for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, have become a cause for concern for the Cowboys organization.

While the decision to waive Elliott may come as a surprise to many fans, it appears that the Cowboys are ready to move on from the talented but troubled running back. It remains to be seen where Elliott will land next, but one thing is for certain – his time in Dallas has come to an end. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
