Report: Rangers placing Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve
The New York Rangers will have to dig out of a deep hole without their most important player.
According to Mollie Walker of The New York Post, the Rangers are placing goalie Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
The Rangers did not announce the move but did recall goalie Louis Domingue from the AHL.
Shesterkin started in Monday’s 5-3 loss to the Panthers, allowing four goals.
The former Vezina Trophy winner has just 11 wins in 27 starts this season with a .906 save percentage.
The Rangers won the Presidents’ Trophy last season but have now tumbled to last in the Metropolitan Division with a 16-19-1 record. Now, the team will have to turn to Jonathan Quick and Domingue in net as it tries to turn things around.

It is unclear how long Shesterkin will be out of the lineup, but the Rangers are hopeful that he will be able to return before the end of the regular season. In the meantime, they will have to rely on Kinkaid and backup goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to anchor their defense.
