Residents clean up after devastating flooding
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – For Terry Berry, who lives in the Westmoreland area of Huntington, the last two days have felt like a bad dream.
His entire basement was submerged in several feet of water, ruining valuable items and family heirlooms.

“I don’t even know where to start,” Berry said when asked about the rebuilding process.
He was one of several homeowners impacted by massive flooding that came from Krout Creek, and is now in search of anything that can be salvaged from his basement.
“Three bookcases there, had pictures on top of them of my grandkids and my sons, our wedding picture, it’s ruined, it’s just all destroyed,” Berry said.
Berry said Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell stopped by the Berry family’s home for several hours on Thursday to see the damage for himself.
During a news conference on Thursday, Farrell said the pump system near the Westmoreland area malfunctioned, which contributed to some of the extensive damage that happened.
In response to Thursday’s flash flooding, Huntington Public Works crews will be out removing flood debris and water-damaged items.
Special pick-ups began at 8 a.m. Friday and will continue as needed, city officials wrote.
To request a pickup, neighbors can use the Huntington WV 311 app, or submit a request online HERE
