The 6’11” big is expected to be sidelined for 4-8 weeks, Charania reports.

This year with Houston, the 21-year-old is averaging 11.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks across 33 contests, all starts. He’s logging .435/.354/.867 shooting splits.

Danielle Lerner of The Houston Chronicle reports that Smith will have to undergo surgery to address the break in his non-shooting hand. The timing of that procedure hinges on the club getting another opinion on the ailment, which will help Houston determine the extent of the ailment.

With Smith sidelined during a critical part of the 2024/25 season, Rockets head coach Ime Udoka may look to replace the Auburn product with a defensive-oriented reserve forward like Tari Eason or Amen Thompson.

At 22-11 on the year, the Rockets currently occupy the Western Conference’s No. 3 overall seed, and are just 0.5 games behind the second-seeded Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets’ rookie forward, Jabari Smith, has suffered a fractured hand during a practice session. The team announced that Smith will undergo further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury and the timeline for his recovery.

This setback comes at a crucial time for the Rockets, as they are in the midst of a rebuilding season and were counting on Smith to be a key contributor on the court. The 19-year-old was selected with the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and has shown promise in his limited playing time so far this season.

Smith’s injury is a significant blow to the Rockets’ development plan, but the team remains optimistic about his long-term potential. In the meantime, they will need to adjust their lineup and rotations to compensate for his absence.

Stay tuned for updates on Jabari Smith’s recovery and return to the court as the Rockets navigate this challenging situation.
