NASHVILLE — Things got a bit chippy in Lady Vols basketball’s matchup with Vanderbilt on Sunday.
Senior point guard Samara Spencer fouled Khamil Pierre on defense and ended up on the ground at Memorial Gymnasium in the third quarter. Pierre dropped the ball in Spencer’s lap, then Spencer threw the ball at Pierre’s leg. Both players were given technical fouls in addition to Spencer’s original foul.
No. 15 Tennessee trailed Vanderbilt 37-30 at the time of the double technicals, and Spencer had four points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Lady Vols fell behind in the second quarter when they got outscored 16-5 and Vanderbilt led by 11 points at halftime.
Spencer is Tennessee’s starting point guard. She’s averaging 11.7 points, 5.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
