Samford Heads to Face Furman on Wednesday Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men’s basketball team hits the road in Southern Conference play as they face Furman tomorrow night at 5 p.m. central time. The Bulldogs enter the game with a 17-4 record on the season and are 7-1 in SoCon play. Furman enters with a 16-5 record and is 4-4 in league play.
The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 77-61 win over Wofford on Saturday. The Bulldogs played one of their better opening halves of the season as they jumped out to a 42-26 lead and held Wofford to 33% shooting. The Dogs broke the two-game attendance record at the Pete Hanna Center in the past two games against ETSU and Wofford. The meeting between the Bulldogs and the Paladins is the 39th all-time, with Furman holding a 26-12 record in the series overall.
The Bulldogs broke out of a mini-shooting slump last game by knocking down 11 of the 22 three-point attempts on the night. The Bulldogs continue to be a top-10 three-point shooting team in the nation, making 10.9 threes per game which is the sixth best in the country. Defensively, Samford is 8th in the country in caused turnovers forced per game at 16.5.
Samford sits 95th in the NET rankings, the highest-ranked team in the Southern Conference. The Dogs are 14th in the country in assists per game, averaging 17.5 per game. Jaden Brownell has scored 20 and 18 points in the last two games for Samford and now leads the team in scoring again with 14.6 ppg.
Furman enters the game with a 16-5 record on the season and sits at 4-4 in SoCon play. The Paladins entered conference play with a 12-1 record with their lone defeat coming against Kansas. Furman is 8-2 at home on the season but fell against Chattanooga in their last home game. They are coming off a 79-74 win at Mercer in their last contest. Furman was picked to finish fifth in the Preseason SoCon poll. The Paladins had PJ Smith named to the Preseason SoCon All-Conference team. Two players average double-figures for the Furman with Smith averaging 16.6 ppg and Nick Anderson scoring 12.7 ppg.
