Seattle-based Gates Foundation changes name, logo
SEATTLE – The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has a new name as the Seattle-based organization enters its 25th year.
In a statement released Friday, leaders announced the non-profit’s new name will be the Gates Foundation.
What they’re saying:
“In recognition of the legacies and contributions of Bill Gates, Bill Gates Sr., and Melinda French Gates, the foundation is rolling out a new name—the Gates Foundation.”
Melinda French Gates resigned from the Gates Foundation in 2021.
In addition to the name change, there will also be a new logo for the multi-billion dollar organization. The famous initials now appear yellow on a dark gray background.
“We also are introducing a new logo that reflects our unwavering commitment to support partners, communities and programs that are working to drive progress and improve lives around the world.”
By the numbers:
The Gates Foundation’s headquarters in Seattle was completed in 2011, just across from the Space Needle.
When the nonprofit started in 2000, staff were spread out across several buildings in South Lake Union, according to the foundation.
A quarter-century later, their annual budget is $8.74 billion. This money is spread across the globe for philanthropic ventures in the United States and abroad.
