WASHINGTON — Two Seattle-area natives will be performing at the 60th Inauguration of the President of the United States on Jan. 20.

Master Sgt. Harry Ong, a Clarinetist, and Master Gunnery Sgt. Christopher Tiedeman, a Tuba player, are members of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band that is performing at the swearing-in ceremony. The band will be on the platform just below the president.

The band is also marching in the inaugural parade.

According to their website, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s mission is to perform for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The group was founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress and is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization.

It is believed that the group was present when Thomas Jefferson became the first to be sworn in as President in Washington, D.C. on March 4, 1801.
