Secret Star Wars Movie From ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Director Could Film This Year
When will the next Star Wars movie drop? Well, the short answer to that is May 26, 2026, when the feature film The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters everywhere. Based on the popular Star Wars Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, the next Star Wars movie will be yet another, standalone experiment. But, after that, the future of the Force is a little less clear. And now, one rumor suggests that a big-name director is putting together a new Star Wars movie, very, very quickly.
According to Hollywood tipster Daniel Richtman, the next major Star Wars film, rumored to be directed by Shawn Levy, will start filming sometime in 2025. Richtman claims that his sources say the movie will “…start filming THIS year in the UK. They’re moving faster than expected.”
As of right now, Levy is probably most famous for having directed and co-written the 2024 smash hit, Deadpool & Wolverine, a superhero film that spanned various continuities of Marvel properties and raked in $1.3 billion in box office returns alone. But, even before helming Deadpool & Wolverine, Shawn Levy was confirmed to be writing and directing a new Star Wars film.

In 2024, he told Josh Horowitz, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he was determined to make his Star Wars film stand apart, saying: “There’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline. … Because I don’t want to do a Star Wars film that is redundant to others. Nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie…”
There have also been rumors that either Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman could appear in this Star Wars movie in undisclosed roles.
Filming in the UK makes a certain amount of sense, too. Many Star Wars films have been shot on sound stages at Elstree Studios in the UK, indicating that Richtman’s scoop about that filming location is certainly credible.
Bottom line: Levy’s Star Wars movie is very much a thing, we have no idea what it’s about or which characters will appear in it, and—if rumors are to be believed—this could be the next Star Wars movie. It may even hit theaters in time for the anniversary of the first film. In 2027, the Star Wars franchise will turn 50 on May 25. And perhaps, at that exact time, we’ll have a metafictional Shawn Levy movie celebrating the entire saga. Or maybe, it will be something completely different. As Yoda once told us: Always in motion is the future…
