For the second time in the span of a year, Hudson-based Joann Fabrics has filed for bankruptcy and could go out of business if a better offer to buy the company isn’t found.
Joann stores and Joann.com remain open and serving customers, the company said in a news release this week announcing its voluntary filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, the Beacon Journal previously reported.
Joann Inc. is seeking approval from the bankruptcy court to sell the company, with the firm Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC setting the value for the company at auction.

Joann files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2024
Previously, Joann Inc. filed for bankruptcy in March 2024. The company was expected to receive about $132 million in new financing and reduce an estimated $505 million of debt, according to a Joann news release.
The company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy—which allows businesses to reorganize their debt while remaining open—on April 30, 2024, according to a company release, having “reduced its funded debt by half” and with no store closures or layoffs.
As a crafter and DIY enthusiast, Joann Fabrics has been a go-to destination for all my crafting needs. But with the recent news of the company potentially going out of business, it has me worried about the impact it could have on local stores in Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
If Joann Fabrics were to close its doors for good, it could have a domino effect on other stores in the area that rely on the foot traffic and business that Joann brings in. From small craft stores to fabric shops, the loss of Joann could mean the loss of these beloved local businesses as well.
So, before it’s too late, let’s show our support for Joann Fabrics and other small businesses in the area. Whether it’s shopping for supplies, attending classes, or simply spreading the word about the importance of shopping local, every little bit helps.
Let’s come together as a community to ensure that our favorite craft stores in Ohio and Northern Kentucky stay open for years to come. Let’s show Joann Fabrics that they are an essential part of our crafting community and that we want to see them thrive for many more years to come. #ShopLocal #SaveOurCraftStores
