In 2024, plenty of celebrities experimented with bold new looks, sparking endless conversation and debate. Whether you’re a fan of Jacob Elordi’s freshly debuted beard or Timothée Chalamet’s now-viral mustache, there was no shortage of buzzworthy celebrity transformations this year.

Timothée, for one, unveiled his tiny ‘stache this year, and it’s become quite a polarizing topic amongst his fans (and the actor, himself).

During a December 12 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Timothée discussed his transformation and its connection to his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

He noted that he’s actually older than Bob was during the time depicted in the film, saying, “The movie was supposed to start nearly five years ago, but it wasn’t completed until this year.” The delays added years to the production, making the role more significant for Timothée as both an actor and a fan of the folk singer’s work.

Stephen couldn’t resist teasing him about the timing, joking that it officially makes Timothée “old.” The actor played along, poking fun at his growth over the years and his mustache: “The first time I was on here, I hadn’t hit puberty, and now, my voice has changed. And now, I’ll probably play The Rock in his next biopic.”

Timothée’s mustache has divided fans — some are loving it, while others are eagerly awaiting its departure. But the facial hair isn’t just a fashion statement. It was grown for his role in Marty Supreme, another project the actor is working on.

At the A Complete Unknown premiere on December 10, Timothée explained to Extra that while the movie is “basically finished,” it’s not “100% finished,” which is why he’s still sporting the ’stache.

When asked how he truly feels about it, Chalamet admitted with a laugh, “It’s different. That was diplomatic. I’m having fun with it.”
