LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – It’s cold and it’ll get even colder heading into Saturday morning as lows plummet into the teens and lower 20s across WAVE Country.

Skies will remain clear as the quiet before the late weekend winter storm continues. Saturday will be the pick of the weekend despite the cold temperatures. Highs only climb into the upper 20s and low 30s tomorrow afternoon. Clouds increase Saturday night ahead of our Sunday winter storm. We’ll stay dry, however. Morning lows drop into the 20s.

Sunday is a WAVE Weather ALERT DAY as a winter storm brings impactful amounts of wintry mix (ice) and/or snow to our area. After starting out with snow Sunday morning, precipitation will change over to a wintry mix or freezing rain near and south of I-64.

Our current forecast has the most significant ice accretion between Louisville and the Kentucky parkways, where over a half inch of ice is expected. Areas further to the north and south will see lower but still impactful amounts of ice.

The highest snowfall toals are expected across our far northern counties in Indiana, where 8 to 12 inches of snow is expected. Areas along the I-64 corridor (including Louisville) could see 4 to 8 inches of snow while areas south of Louisville will snowfall amounts between 1 and 4 inches.
