SIP Ep. 146 | Oklahoma WR’s status report + Jim Knowles’ OU DC job comments

As the college football season officially comes to an end with Monday night’s National Championship Game, the Sooners Illustrated Podcast is back with a brand new episode to discuss the latest happenings with Oklahoma. 

Sooners Illustrated’s Josh Callaway, James D. Jackson and Tom Green open the show by continuing their position status report series by shifting over to the wide receiver room followed by a lost year plagued by injuries. 

“If you just showed me on paper, before last season, Oklahoma’s receiver room compared to what it is now – I would give the edge to last season’s group,” Green said. “But, of course, last season happened. All the injuries, the lack of production from the position as a whole and the offense at large…If they can get (Deion Burks and Jayden Gibson) back to what they expect them to be, I think the floor on this group certainly raises and probably the ceiling, too.”

“I’m to the point where I feel exactly how I felt two years ago about the receiver room,” Jackson said. “It’s just unproven right now. We don’t really know what these guys are going to do…It’s going to be one of those groups you’re going to really have to pay attention to which is the complete opposite from how I felt last year going into the season.”

The staff then shift into the latest with Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles after his comments regarding the OU opening made over the weekend. 

“It was basically a total non-denial,” Callaway said. “He could have shot it down and he didn’t…I’m assuming that a resolution is going to come through very soon here. The championship game is finally tonight. If Oklahoma thinks they have a shot at Jim Knowles, which I personally believe that they at least think that they do, we should know who the next defensive coordinator is very quickly after this game.”

The guys then wrap up the show by reacting to Curtis Lofton stepping down as Oklahoma’s general manager and recapping the latest action for OU men’s and women’s basketball.
