Sixers’ Joel Embiid, Paul George still out vs Celtics
It’s important to remember in Sixers land that “day-to-day” means at least a week.
The Sixers submitted their injury report for their first matchup in February against the Boston Celtics and not much has changed. Joel Embiid will miss his 15th straight game and Paul George will miss his fourth.
The Sixers have an injury report for tomorrow’s game vs. Boston:
Joel Embiid — left knee management — OUT
Paul George — left finger — OUTAndre Drummond — left toe recovery — QUESTIONABLE
Caleb Martin — right hip sprain — QUESTIONABLE
KJ Martin — left foot — OUT— Adam Aaronson (@SixersAdam) February 1, 2025
This will mean George will miss at least a week with this finger injury he suffered in Chicago. Despite that, Nick Nurse said he still considers PG “day-to-day.” In his most recent pregame media availability, Nurse indicated that the team’s next practice would give him a good indication of where both guys were at. The team didn’t hold one on Saturday though, just an optional shootaround.
Every time Nurse has been asked about George, he’s implied the team is still trying to figure out how they’ll protect the finger when he’s out there, whether that’s tape, a cast or a splint. It would appear they are still trying to figure that out.
If you can believe it, Embiid’s situation might be even stranger. It was pretty quiet for about a week on his front after the team announced he was once again dealing with swelling in his left knee.
Before their wins against the Lakers and Kings though, he went through a couple of intense pregame warmups, one of which was in full uniform.
Trying to parse through all this information to figure out when these two will play again feels like searching for Big Foot at this point.
There was some good news on the injury report as the team could potentially get some reserves back. Caleb Martin and Andre Drummond have both been upgraded to questionable. Both have missed substantial time in January due to lingering ailments.
KJ Martin remains out with a stress reaction in his left foot, and Jeff Dowtin Jr. and Pete Nance will be out on G-League assignments.
The Philadelphia 76ers will be without star center Joel Embiid and forward Paul George for their upcoming matchup against the Boston Celtics. Both players are still recovering from injuries and will not be available to play in the game.
Embiid, who has been dealing with a knee injury, has missed the last several games and is still listed as day-to-day. George, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, is also not quite ready to return to action.
The absence of these two key players will certainly be felt by the Sixers, as they look to secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. However, the team will need to rely on their depth and other players to step up in their absence.
The Celtics, on the other hand, will look to take advantage of the Sixers’ missing stars and secure a crucial win in the competitive Eastern Conference standings.
It will be interesting to see how both teams adjust to the absence of Embiid and George and how the game unfolds without their star players on the court.
