Nice simple fitness / smart watch.

4 out of 5 stars

Nice simple fitness / smart watch.
I tried a Halo Band, and liked it, and upgraded to a Halo View. It was nice too, but I wanted something that had a nice large face. FitBits are MUCH more expensive, and this SKG watch is a nice compromise. It's waterproof, and I only need to charge it once a week (the Amazon Band and View needed to be charged at least every other day). I loved the Band and Halo analysis of my sleep, but I get pretty much the same thing from the SKG watch – also pulse and blood oxygen, as well as stress and breath training! The Amazon devices offered exercise advice and recipe advice – which I did not follow. So no great loss. The Amazon devices also wanted me to sign up for a paid monthly service (after a free period).I like my SKG. It ain't perfect, but it is giving me basically the same information as my previous Amazon devices, without monthly charges, and omitting advice I don't use anyway. The (blurry) picture above is one of several available faces. This one displays time, date, battery level, how many calories burned, steps today, miles walked today, and current heart rate. I like it. There are several others available, and you can toggle between them easily.I confess that the message routine (receiving texts and emails) and the music routine (controlling your music from your phone) are still eluding me. But I don't care about those too much.SKG does offer a breathing exercise program which I have used several times, and which has reduced my heart rate.Four out of five stars.

Packaging is simple and easy to open.
The watch itself is just what I wanted. The face is large enough for me to read without my glasses, which has been an issue with several other smartwatches I have tried. The directions to pair and set up the watch are simple. You just upload the app and you are on your way to start the setup. I like the variety of exercises available to track. Indoor running and outdoor running and indoor swimming and outdoor swimming are some of the many options. I like that they differentiate between the exercises with more precision than other trackers I have tried.
The price is very reasonable I have spent ten times as much on big name brands that have failed quickly or been so complicated to use that I didn't enjoy them.
As far as durability, I have not yet used it while swimming. That will be the true test.
It has good features, some free downloads for a variety of clock faces, and some others that can be purchased for a minimal charge.
I find it easy to navigate, which is most important for me. Not too complicated. Looks nice, band is comfortable and a very pretty light pinkish/coral color. I have not had it long enough to collect data for sleep tracking.
The charging connector is magnetized and snaps into place so you don't have to fiddle with trying to get the charger connected.
The display is bright and can be adjusted and the font is readable, even without my glasses, which will be a huge plus when I am in the pool.

Now don’t get me wrong, the user interface isn’t state of the art or snappy by any means, but as far as functionality goes this thing is awesome. It survived being on a mechanics wrist for about 6th months. Additionally the battery life and integration with the app are extremely impressive for something of this price point.

Just received this smart watch on 6-12. Charged it fully and download the app. Took a day to get familiar with it. Battery life is about 4 days for me and still had about 32%. Once I got familar with the functions I'm feeling mixed. I use a Concept 2 rower and not sure is I can sync my workout to my C2 logbook. I'm doing it by hand. What I don't like is that in exercise mode it doesn't stop at the time or cal you input. It keeps running. I'm pretty regimented regarding my exercise and I wish it would default to what cal or time I input. Also, and this is a personal peeve. The cal or time don't guite jibe with the rower. Overall, I'm preety pleased with the watch. It isn't an overly big face, the control knob functions well, notifications, alarm, etc all work.

I prefer a watch connected to a chest strap and not needing a phone. Unfortunately, those seem to be gone now. The good is that initially I was able to set this up and download the Chinese app and sync the watch to the phone. In using this I noticed first that I cannot isolate the screen to show the heart rate in large font as I did with my polar. Then I noticed that a lot of the time the heart rate did not make sense. I would work out and it would drop. I went back with a chest strap and found that the watch could be 20 beats lower than it should show. tightening up the watch helped some. Not as accurate, but better than nothing. I worked with it that way for about 2 months. Then i found that it would not sync to my phone. I deleted the app and reloaded and tried to reset the watch. My wifi showed both connected but would no longer sync. Then I tried to reset the watch to factory settings to start over. Now it not only will not connect to the app, but it is stuck on a screen showing to download the app. I cannot move forward. It is now totally useless. I wish one of these companies (not Ezon) would come up with an equivalent of the Polar FX7 which was simple, but actually worked.

Price for this item is very good – but style is sort of an issue. Watch slips around my wrist from side to side and eventually the band holding the extra strap slips up to the buckle and then you have a strap sticking out. I realize that the price drives function to a point but I really don't like the time (watch) displays you have to choose from – still trying all of them out but I have seen better displays. As with most things like this getting used to using the functions takes a little time. Had a few moments trying to start the "outside" walk function and then turning it off. Finally figured it out and I can make most functions perform now. As far as I can tell there is no automatic link to the phone app – you have to open the app before it will update the data on the phone. Also not sure why each function in the app wants access to my contacts, pictures and locations. I know why they want them but why do they "need" them. I have located another watch with a style I think I might like better at a similar price, they are on the way and I will decide soon if I return these and keep the others. More to follow….

Spent about a week figuring out how to make the watch work, finally was able to get all the functions to work on the phone. But, the unit lost communication with the app on my phone. Spend a couple of days trying to get it to work again but the phone could not locate the watch and I could not get it to sync manually – strange that is was still sending my email to the watch. I finally decided to delete the app, and reinstall the app and attempt to bind the two, nothing… Finally tried to "reset" the watch which left me with only two screens – one telling me to download the app the other showing a QR Code. Unable to get anything to work after that. Sent two watches back (one unopened) and ordered watches from another company. As mentioned above – the band clasp kept slipping up my wrist until I had a "tail" sticking out sideways. Did not have a good experience overall…

I wanted something simple to use and that had the indicators most relevant to me and I got what I wanted for the right price.
My only drawback is that it doesn't connect to the Weight Watcher app the way my Fitbit used to. In order for it to connect, I had to link it to Google Fit which in turn connects to Weight Watcher's app. If that isn't a requirement for you then you are good to go. So far so good. Fingers crossed it has a long life.
