“We’re in a streak of 80s, which is above the average highs in the upper 70s for this time of year,” said Local 10 meteorologist Brandon Orr.

While patchy showers have been seen, especially in Broward County and over the Florida Straits, coverage remains limited at 30-40% due to a layer of dry air around 6,000 feet above the surface.

Orr said this dry air will begin to erode by Friday, allowing for increased rain coverage of about 40%. However, he emphasized the rain will remain spotty.

Looking ahead to the weekend, a storm system currently bringing severe weather to the Deep South is expected to weaken significantly by the time it reaches Florida.

“It’s purely a rainmaker for us on Sunday, with coverage up to 50%,” Orr said.

New Year’s Eve looks promising, with temperatures around 70 degrees at midnight and minimal rain expected, making for a pleasant holiday celebration.
