ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1309 Hints, Clues And Answer For Saturday, January 18th

Holy smokes, folks. It’s Sunday and the very last day of the Biden administration. It’s also the very last day of TikTok unless the new Trump administration decides to extend its lifespan. Whether or not these are good or bad bits of news for you, it is indeed the end of an era (or two). Wordle will live on, however, and that’s good news I think we can all agree on! Speaking of which, let’s solve today’s!

    How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: An important piece of workout equipment.

The Clue: This Wordle begins and ends with consonants.

    Okay, spoilers below!

    The Answer:

    Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

CLAIM seemed like a good guess but it was not. At all. 655 words remained and I had a spread of five grey boxes staring back at me. SPORE slashed this down to just 33 and gave me three yellow boxes to work with. I thought RODEO was a good guess, since it would test out a couple different placements for the ‘O’ and sure enough, only three words remained. I picked ROWER because I was about to head to an OrangeTheory class and we do a lot of rowing in there! Lucky for me, that was the Wordle!

    Competitive Wordle Score

I get 0 points for guessing in four and, much to my surprise, 1 point for beating the Bot! Wordle Bot took 5 tries today, which is rare.

    How To Play Competitive Wordle

    • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
    • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
    • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
    • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

    Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “rower” originates from the Old English word “rōwan,” which means “to row” (as in using oars to propel a boat). This is derived from the Proto-Germanic root *“rō-“ and ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root *“ere-“ or “*erə-“, meaning “to move” or “to flow.” The suffix “-er” was added in English to form the agent noun, denoting a person who rows.
