Tri-Nation 2024/25, PAK vs NZ 1st Match Match Preview
Big picture: Opportunity for precious game time in Pakistan
A triangular ODI series is something of a curiosity that belongs in a museum more than it does in 2025. Pakistan last hosted one in 2004, and there have been none in the ODI format anywhere since 2019. When this particular series was announced not long ago, it stood out – it is the only ODI tri series in the current FTP.Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa will play a truncated version of the classic tri-series, with just one round of matches followed by a final. The schedule was likely squeezed by the SA20 at one end and the Champions Trophy at the other, and it is that upcoming ICC event – the first hosted by Pakistan in nearly three decades – which gives the series context.
While South Africa’s squad is weakened by player commitments at the SA20 and injuries, Pakistan and New Zealand, who take each other on in the opener, have pretty much full-strength sides. Both have named near-identical squads for this series and the Champions Trophy, and had two practice sessions at the rebuilt Gaddafi Stadium, which will officially be inaugurated on Friday, on the eve of the first game. For each side, it offers the opportunity for precious match practice in conditions where the Champions Trophy will be held in the main (with India’s matches in Dubai). Pakistan and New Zealand will also open the marquee tournament, though that game will take place in Karachi and not Lahore. Both have played exactly nine ODIs each since the end of the 2023 World Cup, and all in very different conditions to this. While Pakistan won each of their three recent ODI series, New Zealand fell short in the one they played in the subcontinent, a 2-0 reversal against Sri Lanka.
However, it’s not as if they are short of match practice in this country. Since December 2022, they have played two Tests, eight ODIs and ten T20Is in Pakistan across four series. On most of those occasions, though, multiple factors meant New Zealand sent in weakened squads, with larger context to build up to. This time, however, there is a multi-team trophy on the line, all while preparing for the second-biggest title in ODI cricket.
It offers the visitors a chance to trial what appears a healthy balance between seam and spin in Pakistan. Captain Mitchell Santner will have Rachin Ravindra, Michael Bracewell and Glenn Phillips for slow bowling company, while they also have a battery of fast bowlers – no fewer than six – in their tri-series squad.Pakistan appear to have shown their hand slightly more, with just one full-time spinner alongside Salman Ali Agha, their most plausible part-time spin option. There is a bit of tinkering required at the top, where it appears Fakhar Zaman, back in from the cold, will open with Babar Azam, an experiment the PCB are testing ahead of the Champions Trophy. With this their only game before the deadline to make changes to the squad on February 11, there is more riding on it for them than just the eventual outcome of the contest.Form guide

New Zealand LWWLLIn the spotlight: Babar Azam and Lockie Ferguson
Babar Azam is always in the spotlight, but things are different this time. With Saim Ayub’s injury and Abdullah Shafique’s loss of form, ESPNcricinfo understands Pakistan’s former captain is expected to be called upon to open the batting to provide stability up top. He has, with polarising effect, performed this role in T20 cricket for several years, and more recently stood in as Test opener in Cape Town, scoring a half-century in each innings. In ODIs, however, all but 14 of his innings have come at three, and as he looks to navigate his way out of a difficult run of form, a change of position in his most prolific format will guarantee all eyes on him.Lockie Ferguson has not played ODI cricket since the tail-end of 2023, but with Pakistan also naming four seamers in their squad, this may be a series where express pace is a factor. Fresh off a respectable showing in the ILT20, where he places among the top-ten wicket-takers, the 33-year-old Ferguson is the oldest fast bowler across all three sides this tri-series, but also the quickest. Against a makeshift Pakistan opening pair and, in Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan, middle-order players more accomplished against spin than high pace, Ferguson’s extra heat presents a locus of vulnerability for Pakistan, and a point of difference for New Zealand.Team news: Saim Ayub is out of action
Ayub, recovering from an ankle injury, is out of the series and the Champions Trophy. Pakistan are expected to open with Fakhar and Babar, with three premier seam bowlers and Abrar Ahmed as lone frontline spinner. The middle order will see some rotation over the series.
Pakistan (likely) 1 Fakhar Zaman, 2 Babar Azam, 3 Kamran Ghulam, 4 Mohammad Rizwan (capt, wk), 5 Tayyab Tahir/Saud Shakeel, 6 Salman Agha, 7 Khushdil Shah, 8 Shaheen Afridi, 9 Naseem Shah, 10 Haris Rauf, 11 Abrar Ahmed
New Zealand have two opportunities to work out their best side here before the deadline for the Champions Trophy squads shuts. The conditions would suggest three fast bowlers at a minimum. With all of New Zealand’s spinners also handy batters, balance of the side is not much of an issue.
New Zealand (possible) 1 Devon Conway, 2 Will Young, 3 Rachin Ravindra, 4 Kane Williamson, 5 Daryl Mitchell, 5 Tom Latham (wk), 7 Glenn Phillips/Michael Bracewell, 8 Mitchell Santner (capt), 9 Lockie Ferguson, 10 Matt Henry, 11 Will O’Rourke
Pitch and conditions
This is a bit of a mystery, with the entire ground rebuilt recently. Historically, though, the Gaddafi has produced flat batting surfaces and reward for extra pace in ODI cricket. Overhead conditions are likely to be more overcast than sunny, with temperatures dipping in the evening, but no rain is expected.
Stats and trivia
- Babar has only opened twice in ODI cricket, in a bilateral series against England in 2015. He scored 26 runs across his two innings
- Ferguson is one wicket away from becoming the 19th New Zealander to 100 ODI wickets
- Pakistan last hosted an ODI tri-series in 2004, featuring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. It was called the Paktel Cup, after a telecommunications company that no longer exists. Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in the final then
Quotes
“You have to look at what the pitch, opposition and conditions are like before you finalise a team. This time around, even the Gaddafi Stadium is new to us.”
Mohammad Rizwan feels Pakistan will also need to acclimatise to the new Gaddafi Stadium“We’ve seen [Tim] Southee and [Trent] Boult do it for a long time for us and do an extremely good job. We’ve got some new guys coming through alongside the experience of Matt Henry, and some good fast bowling stocks.”

The Tri-Nation 2024/25 tournament is set to kick off with an exciting clash between Pakistan and New Zealand in the first match. Both teams will be looking to start their campaign on a winning note and lay down a marker for the rest of the tournament.Pakistan, led by their dynamic captain Babar Azam, will be looking to continue their recent good form and build on their success in the T20 format. With a strong batting line-up featuring the likes of Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman, they will be confident of putting up a good total on the board.
On the other hand, New Zealand, under the leadership of Kane Williamson, will be looking to bounce back from their recent series loss and make a strong statement in this tournament. With a balanced squad including the likes of Martin Guptill and Tim Southee, they will be a tough challenge for Pakistan.
The pitch at the venue is expected to be flat and conducive to strokeplay, so we can expect a high-scoring encounter between these two teams. Both sides will need to be at their best to come out on top in this match.
Overall, it promises to be an exciting contest between two evenly matched teams. Stay tuned for what promises to be a thrilling start to the Tri-Nation 2024/25 tournament.

#TriNation #PAK #1st #Match #Match #PreviewAuburn, Duke remain 1-2 atop latest AP Top 25; Maryland jumps in for 1st time since 2023
Auburn and Duke remain 1-2 atop The Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll for the third straight week, while Maryland is back in the rankings for the first time in nearly two years.
Bruce Pearl’s Tigers (20-1) held the No. 1 ranking for the fourth consecutive week in Monday’s poll and the third in a row as the unanimous choice. Auburn has claimed 246 of 248 first-place votes over the past month while remaining unbeaten in a rugged Southeastern Conference with nine ranked teams.
Auburn’s only loss came to Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils (19-2), who enter the week with the nation’s longest winning streak at 15 games after rolling past rival North Carolina.
The two teams offered the only stability after 15 teams in last week’s AP Top 25 lost last week, with three of those losing twice.
The top tier
Alabama moved up a spot to No. 3, followed by Tennessee jumping four spots to No. 4 in an SEC-heavy top tier. Houston climbed one spot to No. 5 despite an overtime loss to now-No. 13 Texas Tech to end a 33-game home winning streak.
Florida was next at No. 6, followed by Purdue, Iowa State, Michigan State and Texas A&M to round out the top 10.
Rising
Texas Tech (17-4) had the biggest jump among last week’s ranked teams, rising nine spots to 13th after beating TCU at home and then beating the Cougars despite coach Grant McCasland and forward JT Toppin being ejected early.
Two-time reigning national champion UConn climbed six spots to No. 19 after winning at Marquette, while Missouri jumped five spots to No. 15 after beating Mississippi State.
In all, 10 teams moved up from their positions last week. That included Rick Pitino’s St. John’s team rising three spots to No. 12, the highest ranking for the program since finishing the 1999-2000 season at No. 9.
Sliding
Mississippi State had the week’s biggest tumble, falling eight spots to No. 22 after home losses to Alabama and Missouri. Iowa State joined the Bulldogs in a two-loss week, falling five spots after losses to Arizona and Kansas State.
No. 16 Kansas and No. 23 Illinois also fell five spots, pushing the list of sliding teams to 10.
Welcome
No. 18 Maryland, No. 20 Arizona and No. 24 Michigan were the week’s three new additions.
Kevin Willard’s Terrapins (17-5) jumped into the poll at No. 18 after pushing its winning streak to four games, a stretch that includes winning at then-No. 17 Illinois and beating then-No. 17 Wisconsin at home last week.
That gave Maryland its first poll ranking in nearly two years, the last coming with a week at No. 21 in late February 2023.
Arizona (15-6) returned to the poll for the first time since November. The Wildcats opened the year at No. 10 and peaked at ninth, but they’re back in after winning 11 of 12 — including against Iowa State after Caleb Love hit a halfcourt shot to force overtime.
Michigan (16-5) has two previous stints in the poll this season, peaking at No. 14 in early December.
Farewell (for now)
Oregon was one of the three departures from this week’s poll, falling out from No. 16 after being one of the trio to lose twice last week by falling at UCLA and at home to Nebraska. Louisville (No. 21) and Vanderbilt (No. 24) also fell out after losses to unranked foes.
Conference watch
The SEC had at least nine teams in the poll for the seventh straight week, including three weeks with 10 teams to make up 40% of the poll. The SEC has also had at least half of the top 10 eight times in nine weeks, peaking at six teams on Jan. 6. No other league has had more than six ranked teams in any week this season.
Maryland’s arrival pushed the Big Ten to six ranked teams, followed by the Big 12 with five and the Big East with three. The Atlantic Coast and American Athletic conferences each had one.

In the latest AP Top 25 rankings, Auburn and Duke are holding strong at the top two spots. Auburn, coming off a dominant performance, remains undefeated and is showing no signs of slowing down. Duke, led by their star player, continues to prove why they are a force to be reckoned with. One of the biggest surprises in this week’s rankings is Maryland jumping into the top 25 for the first time since 2023. The Terrapins have been making noise this season with some impressive wins, and their hard work has finally paid off with a spot in the rankings. Maryland fans are surely excited to see their team getting the recognition they deserve.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how these top teams continue to perform and if any others will shake up the rankings. Stay tuned for more updates on college basketball action.

Why Willie Geist Was ‘Shocked’ By Turnout for 1st Live Sunday Sitdown (Exclusive)
- Sunday Today with Willie Geist will air its first-ever Sunday Sitdown Live on Feb. 2
- Host Willie Geist interviewed comedian Nate Bargatze in front of a live audience on Jan. 22 at City Winery in New York City
- “I still am a little bit overwhelmed,” Geist tells PEOPLE exclusively
Sources say Willie Geist is a “natural.” (Sources being his Today colleagues Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager and Dylan Dreyer, that is.)
Backstage at City Winery in New York City on Jan. 22, the ladies of Today — Geist’s honorary “sisters,” as they call themselves — tell PEOPLE that they’re excited for him ahead of the first-ever “Sunday Sitdown Live” interview he’s conducting with comedian Nate Bargatze. (The interview will air on Sunday, Feb. 2.)
“Willie is an incredible interviewer,” says Guthrie. “He’s beloved. He’s adorable. And he has a vision, and he’s executed this vision.”
Geist laughs days later when he learns what his coworkers said about him — and when he’s asked how exactly one gets to be such a natural.

“My dad was in the business. He was a CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, but we never had a formal conversation like, ‘Son, you should get into TV news,’” he tells PEOPLE. “I could tell my dad was having fun, and I saw the product of his work on television every Sunday, which I thought was cool. So, that sunk in somewhere without question, but not because he sat me down and told me I ought to do it.”
In the nearly nine years since the inception of Sunday Today, Geist has conducted more than 500 interviews with countless A-list celebrities (in fact, he’s nabbed Mariska Hargitay, Glenn Close and Cynthia Erivo for conversations in the last month alone).
So, when the idea began cropping up that the team should try and bring the beloved Sunday Sitdown interview to their loyal fanbase, Geist was excited. Sponsor (and venue) City Winery was game. All they’d need was an audience.

Geist’s first-ever Sunday Sitdown Live sold out 500 tickets in under 10 minutes — a feat he admits he “was shocked by,” never mind the fact that people flew to N.Y.C. from all across the country (California! Iowa! Michigan!) for the chance to be in the room.
“I still am a little bit overwhelmed by that. You do a show and you know how many people watch, and that’s a lot of people, but you don’t see them, really,” says Geist. “You interact with them on social media, and then when they’re in the room? I literally was saying to them, ‘Oh, are you in town for work or are you here to see Wicked?’ And they’re like, ‘No, no, I got the ticket for Christmas. We bought plane tickets and a hotel room and we flew here to see you.’ I was so touched by that. It was really beautiful.”
Geist laughs again when told yes, he really was the main attraction.
“Well, Nate wasn’t too bad either,” he says. “He’s got some fans.”

As a beloved comedian with a skyrocketing career, Bargatze was a natural choice for Sunday Today to kick off a first-of-its-kind event. To Geist’s credit, however, he’s not one for cue cards, and his intimate interviews aren’t the type where he can have teleprompters on stage or following him down a bustling street with a big star in tow, either.
“I try always to just be a hundred percent authentic, and hopefully people who know me would say, ‘He’s the same person on and off TV.’ When I sit down, I want it to actually be a conversation,” he says. “Now, [it’s] one that I’ve prepared for and have a million things to ask and [I] hopefully know where the good subject areas will be, but I just try to really take out as much of the artifice of a TV interview as I can, knowing that there’s still cameras and lights and it makes it a little weird for everybody, but hopefully we can just sit and chat,” he says.
Geist likens the experience to heading to “a bar with a friend, or to dinner,” where he doesn’t have a list of prepared questions he plans to inquire about.

Instead, part of the key to being such a natural actually is to be over prepared, says Geist. It takes work to make something hard look so easy.

“I’ve told my kids this as they get into their teenage years: the thing that neutralizes anxiety, whether you’re interviewing somebody or making a speech or a presentation in class, is preparation. So, I just lean into the preparation because I know if I’ve done the work, then there’s nothing to be anxious about,” says Geist. “I know everything about this person. I know where I hope the interview will go. I’ll be able — if they take it to another direction — to react with more on that area that they want to talk about. Preparation is the anxiety killer.”
Sunday Today airs Sundays at 8 a.m. ET on NBC.
Why Willie Geist Was ‘Shocked’ By Turnout for 1st Live Sunday Sitdown (Exclusive)Willie Geist, host of NBC’s “Sunday Today with Willie Geist,” recently sat down for his first live Sunday Sitdown event and was blown away by the turnout. The event, which took place at a popular venue in New York City, was filled to capacity with fans eager to hear Geist’s insights and stories.
In an exclusive interview, Geist shared his surprise at the overwhelming support from his fans. “I was truly shocked by the turnout for our first live Sunday Sitdown,” Geist said. “It’s amazing to see how many people are interested in hearing these conversations and getting a behind-the-scenes look at the show.”
Geist’s Sunday Sitdown interviews have become a popular segment on his show, featuring in-depth conversations with celebrities, athletes, and newsmakers. The live event gave fans the opportunity to experience these interviews in person and ask their own questions.
“I’m so grateful for the support of our viewers and fans,” Geist said. “It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do and the impact it can have on people.”
Overall, the success of the first live Sunday Sitdown event has left Geist feeling grateful and excited for future opportunities to connect with his audience in a more personal and engaging way.

Today’s NYT Strands hints and answers
Looking for Friday’s Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here:
Happy February, dearest Strandistas! I have returned to help you with today’s grid, uncovering words on this lovely winter’s day. It’s been awhile, but playing strands is sort of like riding a bike. You never really lose the knack for it once you’ve hopped on and taken it around the block a few times. Of course, you rarely fall and scratch up your knees playing Strands, so that’s a plus! Let’s solve today’s, shall we?
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.
Spoilers ahead.
Today’s Strands Hints
Today’s Theme: Baby talk

What Are Today’s Strands Answers?
Today’s spangram is: FIRSTWORDS

- MINE
Here’s the completed Strands grid:
Today’s Strands
Today’s Strands Breakdown
This was a lot tougher than I thought it would be after finding my first word—BOTTLE—which felt pretty obvious given the theme, which is hardly subtle. Still, even after finding YUCKY and DADA and then KITTY, I found it a bit hard to tease out the rest. Once I had the spangram, FIRSTWORDS (which I found because I found WORDS and worked my way back) I was able to get MAMA and MINE. MORE and BYEBYE were probably the hardest for me, but I eventually got them both!
How did you do on your Strands today? Let me know on Twitter and Facebook.

Milo Ventimiglia’s Wife Jarah Mariano Gives Birth to 1st Baby
Milo Ventimiglia, Jarah Mariano Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for IMDb;Courtesy of Jarah Mariano/InstagramMilo Ventimiglia and his wife, Jarah Mariano, are officially parents — just weeks after losing their home in the Los Angeles wildfires.
“Houseless, never homeless. Welcome back Ke’ala Coral Ventimiglia 1.23.25,” Marinao began on Friday, January 31, via Instagram. “Jan 7th my family & I evacuated from the Palisades Fire. We lost our home that we were living in & everything we own, as well as our home under construction that we were about to move into. I was 38 weeks pregnant & I had done an evacuation only a few weeks prior during the Franklin Fire as well. I take it as a gift that I was able to essentially do a practice run for what was inevitably to come. I’m also forever grateful that we were able to evacuate from the Palisades Fire in the daytime, when we could feel more prepared & not caught completely off guard in the middle of the night, for example.”
She noted that her family is “together, happy, healthy and safe, which is truly all that matters.”
“We are deeply grateful to all of the heroes who help battle fires, as well as care for everyone affected by the aftermath for years to come. This will be an extended process of rebuilding and grieving for many, but we are feeling optimistic & inspired to welcome all of the exciting newness of our fresh start!” Mariano continued. “A special thank you to all of those who have supported my family & I in this time; friends, family, my birthing team, hospital staff, companies gifting, LA community and beyond. Your love & generosity means everything to us.”
She concluded: “Gentle reminder to all, to please allow us this time & space to nest with our newborn in such a delicate phase. We already have everything we need in abundance & will be back around with updates in our own time.” The post was signed, “Sending you Aloha + Light always, Jarah, Milo, Ke’a Duke.”
Mariano announced her pregnancy in September 2024 by sharing maternity photos via Instagram. “Baby on board!” she captioned two shots of herself showing off her baby bump in a bikini while floating on a surfboard in the ocean in Hawaii. In the first picture, she cradled her growing belly, while the second image showed her making a “shaka” hand sign alongside another person (presumably Ventimiglia) whose face was not seen in the frame.
Us Weekly broke the news in October 2023 that Ventimiglia and Mariano quietly tied the knot in a private ceremony with family and close friends in attendance. The news came after the couple were first linked in 2022, but they did not confirm their relationship until their wedding.
Days before revealing her pregnancy, Mariano celebrated her first anniversary with Ventimiglia. “Last year I married my best friend,” she wrote via Instagram in September 2024. “There aren’t enough words that exist to describe all the special qualities that make him who he is.”
She continued: “All I can say is that I am grateful for the life that we have together and the happiness that we have created Aloha wau iā ‘oe my husband Milo.” (The phrase means “I love you” in Hawaiian.)
The pair have mostly kept their relationship out of the spotlight, but Ventimiglia previously gushed over Mariano in a February 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“When I saw my wife, I was always just, like, ‘Oh no, she’s my wife,’” he recalled. “Right away, I kinda knew. … I think if anything, you know [that] you just got a partner that you’re gonna be there with, you’re gonna work with, you’re gonna find the joy [with]. And when pain hits you guys, you got to get through it together.”
Years before Ventimiglia and Mariano — who shares a last name with the actor’s Gilmore Girls character, Jess — started their family, he hinted that fatherhood was in his plans for the future, explaining how his role as patriarch Jack Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us impacted him.
“It doesn’t make me want to have a family any more than I think I’m built to want a strong family unit,” Ventimiglia exclusively told Us in 2017. “It will happen when it happens. I’m not out seeking it. It’s just kind of, I’m present in the space in my life that when it presents itself and it’s right, I’m sure it will work out.”
In the meantime, working with kids on the series was a “blast” for Ventimiglia, who tried out his parenting skills on set.
“I don’t have kids, I have nieces and nephews,” he said at the time. “I feel like I get to act out a little bit of my own paternal want to influence a young mind, shape a young mind, to approach life in a positive way.”
Milo Ventimiglia, known for his roles in hit TV shows like “This Is Us” and “Gilmore Girls,” is now a father! His wife, model Jarah Mariano, has given birth to their first child. The couple has been together for several years and announced they were expecting back in January. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new little bundle of joy, and now the wait is finally over.
While details about the baby’s name and gender have not been revealed yet, one thing is for sure – this child is going to be surrounded by love and adoration from their famous parents.
Congratulations to Milo and Jarah on this exciting new chapter in their lives! We can’t wait to see photos of their beautiful family and watch as they embark on this new journey together.

Actor Milo Ventimiglia and his wife Jarah Mariano have welcomed their first child together.
Mariano took to Instagram on Friday and shared the good news just weeks after she and the “This is Us” actor lost their home earlier this month in the Los Angeles wildfires.
“Houseless, never homeless,” Mariano wrote in the caption of a post, which featured her baby’s feet and her dog’s paw.
“Welcome back Ke’ala Coral Ventimiglia 1.23.25,” she continued. “Jan 7th my family & I evacuated from the Palisades Fire. We lost our home that we were living in & everything we own, as well as our home under construction that we were about to move into.”
Mariano said that she was 38 weeks pregnant and revealed that evacuating from the Palisades fire was the second time she’s had to evacuate in recent weeks. She said she previously had to evacuate from the Franklin Fire in Malibu in December.
“I take it as a gift that I was able to essentially do a practice run for what was inevitably to come,” she said. “I’m also forever grateful that we were able to evacuate from the Palisades Fire in the daytime, when we could feel more prepared & not caught completely off guard in the middle of the night, for example.”
Mariano continued, “My family & I are together, happy, healthy & safe, which is truly all that matters. We are deeply grateful to all of the heroes who help battle fires, as well as care for everyone affected by the aftermath for years to come.”
“This will be an extended process of rebuilding and grieving for many, but we are feeling optimistic & inspired to welcome all of the exciting newness of our fresh start!” she added.
She ended her post by saying thank you to those who have supported her and Ventimiglia during this time including her friends, family, birthing team and hospital staff.

She added, “Gentle reminder to all, to please allow us this time & space to nest with our newborn in such a delicate phase. We already have everything we need in abundance & will be back around with updates in our own time.”
After losing their home in the Palisades fire, Ventimiglia reflected on the loss and told CBS Evening News at the time, “You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and whatnot, and then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything kind of around, and your heart just breaks.”
“I think there’s a kind of shock moment where you’re going, ‘Oh, this is real. This is happening,’” he said of watching their home burn via security cameras before turning the footage off. “We kind of accepted the loss.”

10:31 Local Time, 05:01 GMT, 10:31 IST: Sri Lanka have been bundled out for just 165 and with the deficit being a mammoth 489 runs, Australia have decided to enforce the follow-on. Definitely the right call too, we’ve heard that there’s some rain expected later in the afternoon again so Australia will want all the time they can have to bowl Sri Lanka out a second time. Their bowlers should be relatively fresh too considering they bowled only 27 overs yesterday. In total, they bowled only 52.2 overs with Starc only bowling 8 so they should be raring to go once more. Sorry looking batting card for Sri Lanka. The openers went cheaply and there were a lot of soft-dismissals. Chandimal was the only standout with 72. Lot of batters got starts but went on to throw it away. The surface is offering plenty to the spinners when they put it in the right areas. With some discipline and patience, Australia should bundle Sri Lanka out easily once again. The weather is their only foe.
The first Test match between Sri Lanka and Australia in the Australia tour of Sri Lanka, 2025 ended in a draw with Sri Lanka scoring 165 & 0/0 in their first innings and Australia declaring at 654/6 in their first innings.Sri Lanka’s openers Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne were dismissed for ducks in their first innings, facing just one ball each. Despite the early setbacks, Sri Lanka managed to reach a total of 165 in their first innings.
Australia’s batsmen dominated the match with a massive total of 654/6 declared in their first innings. The highlight of their innings was a brilliant performance by their captain, scoring a double century.
The match ended in a draw as Sri Lanka managed to hold on in their second innings without losing any wickets. Overall, it was a thrilling match with both teams putting up a strong fight. Stay tuned for more updates on the series.

Welcome to the NHL On Tap, a daily look at the games on the NHL schedule. There are four games on the schedule for Friday, including one nationally televised in the United States and one in Canada.
Games of the day
Vancouver Canucks at Dallas Stars (8 p.m. ET; Victory+, SN)
Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes and Stars forward Roope Hintz go head-to-head for the first time this season before facing off at the 4 Nations Face-Off from Feb. 12-20 in Montreal and Boston. Hughes, who leads the Canucks with 58 points (14 goals, 44 assists), will represent the United States. Hintz, who leads the Stars with 20 goals, will play for Finland. The Stars (32-17-1) have won three straight and four of five but will be without defenseman Miro Heiskanen, who is week to week and will miss the 4 Nations Face-Off for Finland after sustaining a knee injury on Tuesday. The Canucks (23-17-10), who play the final game of a three-game road trip, have won three straight.
Columbus Blue Jackets at Utah Hockey Club (9 p.m. ET; FDSNOH, Utah 16)
The Blue Jackets (25-19-7) look to continue their hot streak when they visit Utah at Delta Center. Columbus, which won 2-1 in overtime against the Golden Knights on Thursday, has won two straight and is 9-2-1 in its past 12 games. Blue Jackets forward Adam Fantilli has six points (four goals, two assists) in his past four games. His 15 goals and 29 points in 51 games this season already surpass his rookie season totals of 12 goals and 27 points in 49 games last season. Utah, which is 8-11-5 at home this season, will be without forward Logan Cooley, who is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury and will be reevaluated after the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Nashville Predators at Buffalo Sabres (7 p.m. ET; FDSNSO, NHLN, MSG-B, TVAS)
Buffalo (19-26-5) will look to build upon an impressive 7-2 win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday when it hosts the Predators at KeyBank Center in the second of a four-game homestand. Buffalo forwards Tage Thompson and JJ Peterka each scored a hat trick in the win. Thompson has 10 points (six goals, four assists) in his past seven games, and Peterka has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his past four games. Nashville (18-24-7) has lost two straight after winning its previous five matches. Forward Filip Forsberg, who will represent Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off, has 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in his past 11 games for the Predators.
The Dallas Stars are set to host the Vancouver Canucks in their first game without star defenseman Miro Heiskanen, who will be sidelined due to injury. This matchup will be a test for the Stars as they look to fill the void left by Heiskanen’s absence. The Canucks, on the other hand, will be looking to capitalize on the opportunity to face a Stars team without one of their key players. With their own talented roster, Vancouver will be aiming to take advantage of the situation and come away with a win on the road.
Both teams will be looking to secure two points in this important matchup, so it will be an exciting game to watch. Stay tuned for all the action as the Stars and Canucks face off in what promises to be an intense battle on the ice.

Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell. Courtesy of Lily Collins/InstagramLily Collins and Charlie McDowell are officially parents! The couple surprised fans on Friday, January 31, by announcing the arrival of their first baby via surrogate.
“Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell,” Collins, 35, wrote via Instagram on Friday, sharing a photo of the little one in a bassinet. “Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again …”
Prior to her daughter’s birth, the Emily in Paris star was open about how her desire to start a family helped her overcome her eating disorder and get help.
“Everyone has a different form of recovery. I never had an ‘aha’ moment,” Collins exclusively told Us Weekly in July 2017. “My reason to finally start talking about [my eating disorder] was the moment I realized I wanted a family. I wanted kids. I didn’t want this to be something I bring into that.”
The U.K. native and McDowell, son of actress Mary Steenburgen and stepson of actor Ted Danson, met on the set of his film Gilded Rage in 2019. Sparks quickly flew between the couple and the twosome made their relationship Instagram official in August 2019.
“Always got your back…,” Collins captioned a series of pictures of her and the director in Paris.
In September 2020, the To the Bone star took to Instagram to announce that she and McDowell were officially engaged.
“I’ve been waiting my lifetime for you and I can’t wait to spend our lifetime together,” Collins wrote alongside a kissing photo of the couple.
The award-winning actress confessed in an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan in October 2020 that she knew that the Los Angeles native was The One right away.
“I was very surprised as to when and where it would happen, but it was one of those situations where I knew the second that I met him that I wanted to be his wife one day,” Collins shared at the time.
She went on to explain more details about how the proposal went down.
“It was all very much pre-planned,” Collins told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. “He did a self-timer video, which we were then able to then later get screen grabs. But he set the whole thing up without me knowing, obviously. … I was very, very surprised by it, but it’s exactly what I would’ve wanted, and he knew me so well.”
Nearly one year after their engagement, the duo tied the knot in September 2021.
“I’ve never want to be someone’s someone more than I do yours, and now I get to be your wife. On September, 4 2021 we officially became each other’s forever. I love you beyond @charliemcdowell,” Collins wrote alongside a photo of the wedding via Instagram.
McDowell shared an equally sweet message via his own account: “I married the most generous, thoughtful, and beautiful person I’ve ever known. I love you @lilyjcollins.”
Lily Collins and Husband Charlie McDowell Welcome 1st BabyCongratulations are in order for actress Lily Collins and her husband, filmmaker Charlie McDowell, as they have welcomed their first child together. The couple announced the happy news on social media, sharing a sweet photo of their newborn baby.

Fans and fellow celebrities have been quick to send their well-wishes to the new parents, with many expressing their excitement and congratulations.
