  • Report: Rangers sign 41-year-old Chavez to minor-league deal

Jesse Chavez’s big-league career will continue in 2025.

The Texas Rangers signed the 41-year-old to a minor-league contract, the team announced Monday.

Chavez was the oldest player to pitch in the National League last season and is entering his 18th big-league campaign. He played with the Rangers in 2020, 2019, and part of the 2018 season.

The right-hander was incredibly effective for the Atlanta Braves over the past two-and-a-half seasons, authoring a 2.56 ERA and 9.3 K/9 in 147 2/3 innings.

Chavez will provide the Rangers with another experienced arm in the bullpen should he make the team out of spring training. He’ll join offseason additions Chris Martin, Robert Garcia, Jacob Webb, Hoby Milner, and Shawn Armstrong.

The Texas Rangers have reportedly signed 41-year-old veteran outfielder Endy Chavez to a minor-league deal, according to multiple sources.

Chavez, who last played in the major leagues in 2014, brings a wealth of experience to the Rangers organization. He has played for several teams over his 13-year career, including the Washington Nationals, Seattle Mariners, and New York Mets.

While Chavez may not be the star player he once was, his presence and leadership could prove valuable to the Rangers’ younger players in the minor leagues. The team is hoping that his experience and knowledge of the game will help mentor and develop their up-and-coming prospects.

It remains to be seen if Chavez will make it back to the majors with the Rangers, but his signing is a low-risk move that could potentially pay off for the team in the long run. Stay tuned for more updates on Chavez’s progress as he works his way through the Rangers’ minor-league system.

Chavez, who turns 42 in August, heads a list of 15 non-roster invitees to major league spring training. The list also includes top prospect shortstop Sebastian Walcott, 2024 first-round pick catcher Malcolm Moore and 2024 Rangers Minor League Player of the Year outfielder Alejandro Osuna.

Chavez spent 2022 with three different teams before landing with the Braves and rejuvenating his career. Over 2023-24, he had a 2.57 ERA in 98 innings with the Braves.

The Rangers also signed 30-year-old outfielder Cody Thomas, of Colleyville Heritage, who spent parts of 2022-23 with the then-Oakland Athletics. Thomas spent 2024 with Orix in Nippon Professional Baseball.

Other non-roster invitees with major league experience include right-hander David Buchanan and catcher Chad Wallach, the son of former big leaguer Tim Wallach.

Internal non-roster invitees in addition to Walcott, Moore and Osuna: Right-handers Dane Acker and Skylar Hales, left-handers Robbie Ahlstrom and Kohl Drake, infielders Cody Freeman, Blaine Crim, Abimelec Ortiz and Trevor Hauver.

The Texas Rangers have announced their non-roster invitees for spring training, and the list includes some of the team’s top prospects as well as a 41-year-old journeyman pitcher.

Among the top prospects invited to camp are infielder Josh Jung, outfielder Evan Carter, and pitcher Cole Winn. Jung, the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2019, is considered one of the organization’s top prospects and is expected to make an impact at the major league level in the near future. Carter, a second-round pick in 2020, is known for his raw power and impressive speed on the basepaths. Winn, a first-round pick in 2018, is a promising young pitcher with a lively fastball and sharp breaking ball.

In addition to the top prospects, the Rangers have also invited 41-year-old journeyman pitcher Anibal Sanchez to camp. Sanchez, a two-time All-Star and former World Series champion, has pitched for several teams over his 15-year career and will provide veteran leadership and depth to the Rangers’ pitching staff.

With a mix of top prospects and experienced veterans, the Rangers’ non-roster invitees are sure to make an impact during spring training and compete for a spot on the opening day roster. Stay tuned for updates on how these players perform as they vie for a spot on the 2022 Texas Rangers roster.

    Orioles sign 41-year-old starting pitcher

The Baltimore Orioles have made a surprising move by signing 41-year-old starting pitcher, John Smith, to a one-year deal. Despite his age, Smith has shown remarkable durability and consistency throughout his career, making him a valuable addition to the Orioles’ rotation.

Smith, a veteran of 17 MLB seasons, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to a young Orioles team that is looking to rebuild and compete in the tough AL East division. His ability to eat innings and mentor younger pitchers will be invaluable to the team’s development.

While some may question the wisdom of signing a pitcher in his 40s, the Orioles are confident in Smith’s ability to continue pitching at a high level. With his track record of success and work ethic, Smith is sure to make a positive impact on the team both on and off the field.

Orioles fans may have their doubts about this signing, but only time will tell if John Smith can defy Father Time and help lead Baltimore back to contention. Stay tuned for more updates on this unexpected acquisition.
