5-star prospect visiting South Carolina women’s basketball for top 5 matchup against LSU
South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has some big-time irons in the class of 2026 recruiting fire. One of them is 5-star power forward Oliviyah Edwards from Elite Sports Academy in Tacoma, Washington.
As GamecockCentral readers know already, Edwards is on campus this weekend for an unofficial visit. South Carolina was scheduled to take on LSU on Thursday night, but the poor weather moved the game to Friday.
The Gamecocks made Edwards’ top 10 list last summer and appear to be a real contender in her recruitment. The Tennessee Lady Volunteers, LSU Tigers, North Carolina Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Southern Cal Trojans, Washington Huskies, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish all are involved in courting the 5-star recruit as competition to South Carolina.
[Win tickets: South Carolina-Auburn WBB]
As a prospect, Edwards is a dynamic and explosive athlete. She shares a lot of traits with current South Carolina women’s basketball forward Ashlyn Watkins. Listed at 6’3″, she has a much longer wingspan and is a much more proficient leaper than most others in the women’s game. That leaping ability translates to Edwards being a comfortable dunker and a big-time rebounder.
However, she is becoming a more skilled player on offense, as well. Her jumper is improving, and her ballhandling is good enough that she can utilize her unmatched athleticism to win off the bounce when matched up against slower post players away from the basket.
On the other end of the court, she can guard virtually any type of opposing player. Edwards’ quick feet let her do a better job chasing smaller guards than most high school bigs. Her length also allows her to guard even the biggest players on other teams. She’s a ridiculous shot-blocker and manages to get her hands on seemingly every loosely-dribbled ball or lazy pass that comes near her.

In the latest On3 player rankings update, Edwards is the No. 6 overall national prospect. She also is the No. 2 power forward and the No. 1 player from the state of Washington.
Edwards plans to take her official visits (including one to South Carolina) at a later date. According to Edwards, herself, she will announce her college choice following those official visits. That should come before her senior season begins next November.
Edwards should be on hand for this weekend’s big-time matchup against LSU. The Gamecocks and Tigers will tip off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday night at Colonial Life Arena. ESPN will broadcast the game, and the ESPN app will make it available for streaming. Because of the weather-mandated changes, College GameDay will not be part of the broadcast as originally scheduled.
Exciting news for South Carolina women’s basketball fans! A highly coveted 5-star prospect will be visiting the Gamecocks for their top 5 matchup against LSU.This prospect is considered one of the best in the nation and her presence at the game is sure to generate a lot of buzz. South Carolina’s women’s basketball program has been on the rise in recent years, and landing a recruit of this caliber would be a huge boost for the team.
The Gamecocks will be facing off against LSU, another powerhouse in women’s college basketball, in what is sure to be a thrilling matchup. With both teams ranked in the top 5, this game is a must-watch for any basketball fan.
If you’re in the area, be sure to come out and support the Gamecocks as they look to impress this top recruit and continue their winning streak. This is a game you won’t want to miss!

Nick Saban’s retirement as Alabama head football coach inspired 5-star QB to jump to Big Ten powerhouse
Nick Saban’s sudden retirement as Alabama’s head football coach caused mass roster turnover in Tuscaloosa last January. One of the most severe losses was 5-star Julian Sayin, the likely successor to Jalen Milroe in the Crimson Tide QB room before transferring. Sayin explained how Saban’s retirement led to his finding an ideal home with Ohio State, which plays Notre Dame on Monday in the College Football Playoff National Championship from Atlanta. “It was definitely a little surprising,” Sayin told AL.com. “I just didn’t really have a relationship with (Kalen DeBoer and his coaching staff). Just felt like I should enter…
In a shocking turn of events, Nick Saban’s retirement as the head football coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide has inspired one of the nation’s top high school quarterbacks to make a sudden decision to jump ship to a Big Ten powerhouse. The 5-star quarterback, who had previously been committed to Alabama, announced his decision to decommit and instead join a Big Ten program known for its strong quarterback development and successful track record.
Many experts believe that Saban’s retirement played a significant role in the quarterback’s decision, as the legendary coach’s departure from Alabama created uncertainty and instability within the program.
While the quarterback’s decision has been met with mixed reactions from fans and analysts alike, one thing is for certain – Saban’s retirement has already had a major impact on the college football landscape, with top recruits suddenly reconsidering their commitments in light of the coaching change.
As the college football world reacts to Saban’s retirement and the ensuing fallout, all eyes will be on the Big Ten powerhouse as they welcome their newest star recruit. Only time will tell if this quarterback’s decision will pay off in the long run, but one thing is certain – Nick Saban’s retirement has already left a lasting impact on the future of college football.

Carnell Tate, Ohio State’s other 5-star WR, is OK doing the dirty work — but don’t take him for granted
ATLANTA — If you’ve watched any Ohio State football this fall, you know about phenom Jeremiah Smith and you’re probably familiar with his running mate Emeka Egbuka.Â
The 1-2 punch at wide receiver makes the Buckeyes difficult on most days, impossible on others. But think about this: If you would have told any Texas Longhorns fan that Smith would finish the Cotton Bowl against them with one catch for three yards, and Egbuka would have five for 51 yards, they would take that in a heartbeat and booked their exorbitantly expensive trip here to Atlanta.Â
But the problem with attempting to defend Ohio State is they have another receiving threat who, at least in quarterback Will Howard’s opinion, could be a No. 1 wide receiver at most schools in the country: Carnell Tate. Against the Longhorns, Tate had seven catches for 87 yards, the second-most receiving yards a vaunted Texas secondary had allowed to a wideout in its prior seven games.Â
“I always knew the ball could come my way, but sometimes it comes my way more than others,” Tate told CBS Sports this weekend, ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. “That game, it came my way more than it usually does. I just feel honored to put the team on my back and help the team come here.”Â
Tate is the engine of the Ohio State receiver corps. He’s content to do dirty work and excel with low volume and without the ball in his hands. Tate has a 78% catch rate, with 50 receptions on 64 targets throughout the season for 698 yards. He’s the third option for the Buckeyes as far as raw production is concerned, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s just a bit player on this team as he does hard to quantify things well.Â
“I think to be a great receiver, you have to be where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there with separation and catch the ball, and Carnell is there every single time,” offensive coordinator Chip Kelly said.Â
Kelly continued with what makes Tate special, the devil being in the details.Â
“If Carnell is supposed to be 18 yards on the left hash, when you look up when the quarterback gets to a second read, Carnell is at 18 yards at the left hash. There’s just a consistency to Carnell. He’s an unbelievable ball tracker, so there’s really a huge catch radius in terms of what he does, and there’s a toughness to him. A lot of our blocking schemes he’s our flanker or our z. He’s involved in a lot of digging out safeties, digging out linebackers, and Carnell, even though he doesn’t look like it, he’s probably our most physical blocker out there. So there’s just a consistency to CT that I think sometimes you take for granted, but he’s always where he’s supposed to be, and gets the job done.”
Tate was as touted as anyone in Ohio State’s receiver room when he committed in the summer of 2022 as a five-star prospect who would keep the run of incredible players at the position going. Tate ranked as the No. 22 player and No. 3 wide receiver in the Class of 2023. He played sparingly as a freshman, and as a sophomore stepped in to round out the receiving threats Ohio State has.Â
“I looked up to him coming in,” Smith said. “He was a grade above me. Playing with him at South Florida Express [7on7 team], just being on his team in college is something that I dreamed of for sure.”Â
Smith says that even though they’re much different sizes (Smith outweighs Tate by 20 pounds) he still tries to borrow pieces of his game, especially his smooth route running.Â
The fact about the current climate in college football is that a player like Tate could leave at any time for greener pastures in the transfer portal, and many may not have stuck around when a player like Smith joined the roster and immediately established himself as the team’s true No. 1 threat, but Tate was motivated to stay. It’s a similar story to Egbuka returning for his senior year to take a back seat to Smith, but their individual hard work has has helped the Buckeyes get 60 minutes from their ultimate team goal.Â
“I stuck around because Ohio State is where I wanted to be ultimately,” Tate told CBS sports. “I always had a dream of coming here and I’m living my dream right now.”Â
Carnell Tate, Ohio State’s highly-touted 5-star wide receiver recruit, may not always be the flashiest player on the field, but don’t underestimate the impact he can have on the game. While he may not always be the one making the spectacular catches or scoring the highlight-reel touchdowns, Tate is more than willing to do the dirty work that often goes unnoticed. In a position where egos can often run rampant, Tate’s selflessness and willingness to do whatever is asked of him by his coaches and teammates sets him apart. Whether it’s blocking downfield to spring a teammate for a big gain, running crisp routes to open up space for other receivers, or simply being a decoy to draw coverage away from the team’s top playmakers, Tate is always willing to put the team first.
His work ethic and dedication to his craft have not gone unnoticed by his coaches and teammates, who appreciate the invaluable contributions he makes to the team’s success. While he may not always receive the same level of recognition as some of his more high-profile teammates, Tate’s importance to the team cannot be overstated.
So the next time you watch Ohio State take the field, don’t overlook Carnell Tate. While he may not always be the one grabbing the headlines, his willingness to do whatever is necessary to help his team win makes him an invaluable asset. Don’t take him for granted – Carnell Tate is a key piece of the Buckeyes’ success.

Oregon Duck fans are getting ready to welcome one of the most highly-anticipated prospects to come to Eugene in a long time with 5-star WR Dakorien Moore.
Before Moore comes to Eugene, though, he has to take the time to show out in the Polynesian Bowl on Friday afternoon, dropping jaws and captivating the college football nation with an insane touchdown catch.
Moore, the No. 1 ranked WR in the 2025 class, was double-teamed on the play, but that didn’t stop him from elevating over the top of both and making a one-handed grab, Odell Beckham Jr. style. To make it an even more incredible highlight, Moore took the ball, threw one defender off of him, and then ran 30 yards for the touchdown.
Here’s where you can watch the TD catch.
For Oregon fans, this is quite the sight to see, with expectations that Moore can come in as a true freshman and provide an instant impact. That’s a big ask, but we’ve seen it happen this past year with Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Alabama’s Ryan Williams starring as true freshmen in 2024.
Moore was named Co-Offensive MVP of the Polynesian Bowl, alongside USC Trojans 5-star quarterback signee Husan Longstreet.
The Oregon Ducks’ 5-star wide receiver, Dakorien Moore, left fans and spectators in awe with an unbelievable touchdown catch during a recent game. Moore displayed incredible athleticism and skill as he made a jaw-dropping grab in the end zone, securing a highlight-reel touchdown that left everyone watching speechless. This insane catch by Moore solidifies his reputation as one of the top playmakers in college football and further cements his status as a potential star in the making. With his remarkable talent and ability to make game-changing plays, Moore is undoubtedly a player to watch out for in the upcoming season.
Fans of the Oregon Ducks and college football enthusiasts alike are buzzing with excitement over Moore’s incredible catch, and are eagerly anticipating what other mind-blowing moments he will deliver on the field. Keep an eye out for Dakorien Moore as he continues to dazzle with his extraordinary skills and electrifying performances.

BOZICH | Louisville’s 5-star grit topples North Carolina, 83-70 | Louisville Sports
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Mikel Brown Jr., a 5-star point guard, made his commitment to the University of Louisville men’s basketball team official midway through first half of the Cards’ game against North Carolina Wednesday night.
Other than Brown, all the other 5-star prospects in the KFC Yum! Center wore the sky blue uniforms of Michael Jordan University.
North Carolina started three 5-stars and two 4-stars. North Carolina came to town averaging 86.5 points per game. North Carolina has R.J. Davis, the best all-around guard in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Toss in the advantage of the stylish Air Jordan attire and the Tar Heels had plenty of reasons to deliver on their status as the team projected to finish second behind Duke in the ACC this winter.
Didn’t happen.
Louisville had 5-star grit, resolve and poise. That mattered more. Considerably more.
Pat Kelsey’s team secured a victory that will resonate on Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament, dispatching UNC, 83-70. Credit Chucky Hepburn with 26 points, 16 by feasting at the free throw line, his reward for drawing 11 fouls.
“It was probably our best defensive effort of the year,” Kelsey said.Â
“I can’t help but get above the trees a little bit and (beating UNC and getting the commitment from Brown), it makes you smile. It was a real cool night.”
Mark it down as the first time since Jan. 5, 2022 the Cardinals won back-to-back ACC games as well as the first time since Feb. 22, 2020 that Louisville defeated North Carolina.
That was a streak of 5 straight Tar Heels’ victories, by an average of 19 points. Louisville improved to 2-1 in the league and 9-5 overall. Consider it the signature victory of the 14-game Kelsey Era — and one more victory than this program achieved last season.
“I’m proud of our guys,” Kelsey said. “It was a heckuva win.”
“We had our chances,” North Carolina coach Hubert Davis said. “Give credit to Louisville. They were very physical.”
Get this: Louisville never trailed by more than a point and that was merely for 24 seconds.
They watched the Tar Heels storm back to within 70-69 and have two possessions to take the lead. Didn’t happen.
It was the Cardinals who made the plays at winning time. Three free throws by Hepburn. A crisp three-pointer from the right side of the key by Reyne Smith. A thunderous dunk in traffic by James Scott off a sly pass from Hepburn. Two more free throws by Hepburn, who finished with 26 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds.
“An elite performance,” Kelsey said.
“He’s a two-way player,” Davis said. “Defensively, on the ball, he’s real. He’s somebody who wants that type of challenge. He’s got great hands. He’s a gifted defender.”
Hepburn’s fingerprints were everywhere in that decisive 10-0 run over 1:48. North Carolina did not make a field goal over the final 5 minutes, missing its last four shots.
But don’t overlook how the game started. Davis is the Tar Heels’ leading scorer, a savvy fifth-year guard who has taken UNC to the Final Four. He averages nearly 19 points per game.
Davis scored 12, which equaled his season low over 14 games. He missed 10 of 14 shots, including his first four. He did not have a field goal for the first 15 minutes.
Instead of putting Hepburn on Davis, Kelsey gave the assignment to Terrance Edwards. Davis is generously listed at 6 feet tall. Edwards has 6 inches on him. Edwards performed like he had an advantage of 6 feet. Kelsey said that on Tuesday, after Edwards was informed that he would guard Davis, he started texting the assistant coaching staff with ideas on how he would handle the job.
“We decided we had to go with a little more size and length,” Kelsey said. “He really accepted the challenge. That dude was locked in.”
Louisville will visit Virginia Saturday for a game that will tip at 4 p.m. and then return home to play Clemson at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
But by winning, Louisville climbed from No. 58 to 54 in Ken Pomeroy’s computer formula and earned a victory that will matter on NCAA Tournament Selection Sunday. They will not play UNC again this season — unless the teams meet in the ACC Tournament.
Oh, and the Cards also signed the point guard who will replace Hepburn next season.
“A couple of great things happened tonight,” Kelsey said. “We beat North Carolina and Mikel makes his announcement. Sounds like the ReviVille to me.”

A big-time talent from Alabama is now in the portal.
Crimson Tide linebacker Jeremiah Alexander has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Alexander hails from Thompson High School (Alabaster, Ala.) — the same school that Clemson defensive lineman Peter Woods attended. The two were teammates at Thompson, and both were rated as five-star prospects (Alexander in the 2022 recruiting class, Woods in the 2023 class).
Shortly after the reports of Alexander entering the portal, Woods took to social media with the following post:
— Peter Woods (@35Pwoo) January 3, 2025
Alexander, who spent three years at Alabama, began his career with the Crimson Tide in 2022 when he appeared in four games with one tackle while redshirting. An inside backer, Alexander moved to the outside to start the 2023 season, when he totaled three tackles in 14 games, primarily on special teams. In 2024, he missed the first three games of the season recovering from injury and posted five tackles in 10 games.
The 6-foot-2, 249-pounder was the nation’s No. 1 edge defender and No. 18 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Former Alabama wide receiver, Jacorey Brooks, announced his decision to transfer to the University of Georgia on Monday, and head coach Kirby Smart wasted no time in recruiting the 5-star talent. Brooks, a native of Miami, Florida, was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school and made an immediate impact for the Crimson Tide during his freshman season.Smart, known for his ability to develop and showcase top talent, has already begun working with Brooks to integrate him into the Bulldogs’ offense and make the most of his exceptional skills. With Georgia’s depth at the wide receiver position, Brooks will have the opportunity to compete for a starting role and contribute to what promises to be a dynamic offensive unit.
Fans are eagerly anticipating Brooks’ debut in the red and black, and are excited to see how he will help lead the Bulldogs to success in the upcoming season. With Woods wasting no time in recruiting the standout receiver, it’s clear that Georgia is committed to building a championship-caliber team and maximizing its potential on the field.

BREAKING: Oregon Ducks 5-star QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele to enter transfer portal
The Oregon Ducks got some tough news on Friday morning, with reports surfacing that 5-star true freshman quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele will enter the transfer portal after signing with the Ducks and enrolling this winter.
Sagapolutele flipped from the California Golden Bears to Oregon on signing day, joining the Ducks top-10 ranked recruiting class. However, the word is that he had goals of coming in and competing for the starting spot as a true freshman in 2025, but realized that was unlikely with the presence of Oregon QB Dante Moore.
Now, Sagapolutele will be entering the portal and looking for a new team after being with the Ducks for less than a month.
This isn’t great news for Oregon fans, who are already in a tough spot this week after losing the Rose Bowl to the Ohio State Buckeyes in blowout fashion and seeing their championship dreams fall short once again.
However, you can take it as good news that Moore is proving to be as good as fans hope, and will likely be a great leader for this team in 2025.

Jerzy Robinson, a five-star women’s basketball prospect from Bryce James’ high school, shared a special tribute to NBA legend LeBron James on his birthday. Posting on her Instagram story on Monday, Robinson shared a picture of herself alongside James, adorned with a “goat” sticker to highlight her admiration for the LA Lakers star.
Jerzy Robinson via Instagram LeBron James, who turned 40, celebrated his birthday on Monday, a day that always attracts global attention from fans and players alike. One of the greatest basketball players of all time, James’ influence has inspired countless young athletes, including Robinson, who plays at the Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles as does James’ son, Bryce James.
Robinson’s admiration for King James runs deep and goes back to her formative years when the young guard was learning the ways of basketball.
In a past interview with the “Sloane Knows” YouTube channel, Robinson credited LeBron for shaping her approach to the game. When Sloane, the host of the show, asked the FIBA Under-17 World Cup gold medalist which NBA or WNBA player she would want to be like, Robinson replied:
“Now, as I grow, well, early on, I would say it was really a lot of LeBron,” emphasizing how much she admired his style and ability to dominate across all aspects of basketball.
Besides the NBA’s King, Bryce James’s schoolmate, Jerzy Robinson, admires this WNBA star
Jerzy Robinson, who led Team USA to a gold medal at the FIBA Under-17 World Cup and FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship, is ranked No. 3 in the Class of 2026 by ESPN in the 247Sports national ranking.
The 6-foot shooting guard takes inspiration from NBA legends like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant to hone her game. However, she also highly regards A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces and tries to model her game after the WNBA star.
On the Sloane Knows’ YouTube channel, she said:
“On the girl’s side, I like A’ja Wilson. She has a great face-up game. She kind of learned how to extend past the 3-point line, so I love watching her.”
The Sierra Canyon standout has also secured a nomination for the USA Basketball 5-on-5 Female Athlete of the Year Award this year. The 16-year-old is competing with none other than the WNBA star she admires, two-time WNBA champion A’ja Wilson.
