    Okay so this review is a bit tricky as I don’t know if I’m actually the intended end user of this product. I got it thinking I could use it as a high quality camera for video conferencing and doing any video conferencing on my pc. For this purpose, I don’t think I’d recommend it.

    While the build quality is great and it feels high quality, I was pretty disappointed in the picture quality when testing at a few different lighting scenarios and distances from camera. At low light it’s pretty dark and compared to my other very cheap webcams, it doesn’t quite compare. It also has a pretty closeup default/min zoom so you can’t be close to your computer and have to have some distance to get good framing.

    Now, for golf swings or other applications; I can see where this quality camera could come in handy. For the price you’re getting a quality video camera, but also it’s just the hardware and you need software to do more with it. So it’s tough – it’s a nice product, but I think the niche of people who would find it super usual is pretty small. That’s why I can’t dog it but also struggle giving it more than 3.5 stars.

    Ive been using this USB camera on a change sorting machine i've been building. I haven't quite got it working yet, but the camera has worked great in testing. The camera seems to be well made and was easy to get going with a Raspberry Pi 5. The camera has a CS mount lens that can be removed and swapped for a different lens if necessary.

    The product description and images for this camera are highly misleading. Is this a video camera you can use to video and analyze your golf swing? Take video of your kid playing baseball? Record your drones flying? Video the flights of birds? It is not, if you want to do it wirelessly. It is a glorified web cam. It must be connected to a computer, laptop or phone to work, and you must have video software on that device. You really need a tripod as well, but it does not come with one. There are so many better options for video recording that offer better portability and functionality than this.

    I'm not a professional videographer, although I do know my way quite well around DSLR cameras and photographic equipment in general. I tried out this USB camera, and managed to get it to record and play back. (It requires camera software on your laptop–I used QuickTime). It's cute, I'll give it that. And it seemed to function the way it was designed. Once you get past the gimmick stage, though, I struggled to work out how it would be an improvement over taking a slo-mo video with your iPhone or GoPro. It seems much more cumbersome that either of those options, but maybe I'm just not recognizing the situations where this high-speed USB camera, attached by a bulky cord to a laptop, is more convenient than high-quality, wireless, compact video equipment.

    But if you believe otherwise, this might just be the camera you're looking for. I have no criticisms of what it does–it seems to work perfectly well as a camera. I just don't know why this item exists at all.

    First I connected this camera with the built in Win11 Camera App and it worked great. However, the computer app would not allow me to film in the higher frames per second. I was also able to connect the camera to OBS Studio which also worked well. The camera itself is plug and play although you may have to adjust some of your computer settings.

    The camera has an excellent build. It is manual focus and the focus is easy to maneuver. I had no issues with heat while using. The camera is well labeled. Everything about this camera is heavy duty and well-constructed. Picture quality is very good. I had no issues in lag when filming. Amazing little camera!

    I think the lens is the real star here! A very nice piece of glass. The sensor is pretty good, great for high frame rates. It defaults to a low resolution high frame rate capture mode. I was able to open a live view on my Mac using Photobooth, but I had more control using mpv on my linux machine:mpv -vo=gpu –demuxer-lavf-o=video_size=1920×1080 av://v4l2:/dev/video0That gets you the highest resolution feed (don’t use -vo=gpu if you don’t have a gpu)

      At first I was confused how to use this camera, and I am not very tech savvy, but it took me less than 10 minutes to connect it to my laptop and adjust zoom and focus, and figure them out. I did not need a screwdriver to adjust the lenses, just a little pressure 🙂 Even though there is not much explanation provided on how to use this camera, it is pretty self explanatory.

      Now about the camera itself. The picture quality is very good. It connected to my laptop camera without any extra effort. I will probably need to find a tripod for it, but otherwise it will work nicely for my business to make high quality pictures of my products. I am not tech savvy as I said, so maybe I do not understand just yet everything that this camera has to offer, but I’m pretty happy with it for my needs :).

      I purchased the SVPRO 1080P USB Camera for recording my golf swing, and while it works decently, there are a few issues worth mentioning.

      The camera offers impressive zoom functionality, with a 10X optical zoom and manual focus, which is great for getting detailed shots. However, even at its farthest zoom, the image is very zoomed in, which makes it difficult to capture wider scenes or adjust the framing effectively.

      The biggest downside for me, though, is the picture quality. Even in well-lit environments, the image can appear noisy and darker than expected. This is a bit disappointing for a camera that promises 1080P resolution. I had hoped for a sharper, clearer picture, especially for the price.

      Despite these issues, the camera does its job for basic uses like recording a golf swing or streaming in controlled conditions. If you’re looking for something with great image quality in various lighting conditions, this may not be the best option, but it still offers decent value for certain applications.

      I like how this camera is tiny and compact, I use it on an arm above my monitor as a streaming camera. Being able to adjust the quality and zoom is great, but what I noticed is that the image quality is still always not clear to some degree. A 1080P picture doesn’t look very crisp.

      I do a lot of amateur photography and video work and am always looking for cameras to pay around with. Let me start by saying that this is quite the little camera with some unique focusing options unlike any other computer connected camera I own. I like how you can manually zoom in the lens, and it does a fairly good job of adjusting the focus but there is also a focus ring for fine tuning. In between the zoom and focus is an aperture ring for setting the correct amount of light which works pretty well. So, with all of those positive points made, why only two stars? While this is a fun camera there are several things about it that keep it from being worth it in my opinion. For starters, the image and video quality are simply not at the level it should be in this day and age. Their Amazon page makes it look like it can take these phenomenal videos and images with great detail and awesome dpi but that simply isn’t true. For starters, take a look at the final photo I included, and you can see that its listed as only a 2-megapixel camera. Anyone who knows anything about photography knows that this is simply ridiculous and cheap for a camera in 2024. There is no way you are going to get a high-quality image and with the first testing I found that was exactly the case. I was going to include some images, but the computer didn’t save them from my first testing (I was going to do some new ones as I wrote this, but I am frustrated enough by the camera that I don’t feel like pulling it out and hooking it up). Let me just say that its results are usable but extremely grainy when compared to just about any other modern camera. In fact, the best way to describe this is by comparing it to the children’s cameras that we used to buy for our kids back in the early 2000’s. Even then the image quality was sort of a joke but good for kids, but fun for them. Moving onto the camera itself the position of the various manual rings makes it sort of tricky to move one without moving them all. Before you even use it, make sure to tighten the set screw or you will find yourself unscrewing the entire lens. On a related note, the focus and zoom rings also have a weird sort of locking screw that extends out from the ring. I think they intend it to be used to lock them but most people who do photography and video work don’t really want that. I do use them to make it easier to turn those rings however they loosen up very easily and when they do so does the movement of the rings – also if they unscrew all the way and fall out and get lost you will have an even bigger problem. So, the final verdict for me is that the cons outweigh the pros, especially at this high of a price point.

For starters, take a look at the final photo I included, and you can see that its listed as only a 2-megapixel camera. Anyone who knows anything about photography knows that this is simply ridiculous and cheap for a camera in 2024. There is no way you are going to get a high-quality image and with the first testing I found that was exactly the case. I was going to include some images, but the computer didn’t save them from my first testing (I was going to do some new ones as I wrote this, but I am frustrated enough by the camera that I don’t feel like pulling it out and hooking it up). Let me just say that its results are usable but extremely grainy when compared to just about any other modern camera. In fact, the best way to describe this is by comparing it to the children’s cameras that we used to buy for our kids back in the early 2000’s. Even then the image quality was sort of a joke but good for kids, but fun for them. Moving onto the camera itself the position of the various manual rings makes it sort of tricky to move one without moving them all. Before you even use it, make sure to tighten the set screw or you will find yourself unscrewing the entire lens. On a related note, the focus and zoom rings also have a weird sort of locking screw that extends out from the ring. I think they intend it to be used to lock them but most people who do photography and video work don’t really want that. I do use them to make it easier to turn those rings however they loosen up very easily and when they do so does the movement of the rings – also if they unscrew all the way and fall out and get lost you will have an even bigger problem. So, the final verdict for me is that the cons outweigh the pros, especially at this high of a price point.

      Solidly-built camera with decent varifocal lens that supports manual focus, aperture, and zoom controls.
      It is bet fit for industrial applications or large CNC/Laser cutter setups. I will use it for a DIY Lightburn setup.

      The product listing claims that the camera comes with OV4689 sensor. That is likely incorrect. OV4689 is a 4MP sensor (2688 x 1520) that supports 90Hz capture at full resolution (120fps at 1080p). This camera is 2MP camera with the highest resolution of 1920×1080 at 60Hz.

      Note that you cannot capture 120/260fps on Windows using standard tools, you need to install AmCap or similar software capable of doing it.

      I think the lens is the real star here! A very nice piece of glass. The sensor is pretty good, great for high frame rates. It defaults to a low resolution high frame rate capture mode. I was able to open a live view on my Mac using Photobooth, but I had more control using mpv on my linux machine:

    Super low lighting, don’t think it’s night vision/infrared
    While it is my fault that I did not realize the pixel or the amount of input etc this was actually going to give, I can say that it does work quite easily with plug and play. I forgot to take a photo of the quality of the image, however for me it just seemed super dark considering what I have on my own laptop. This would be something I would use if I had no other choice, however it does its job rather well considering its capabilities. I used it with a MAC laptop and it was usb plug and play no problem. It does not have anything to mount it or hold it in place so it is not easy to configure when using. It mentions night vision or infrared yet it does not do anything to indicate that it can do either. Whether I used it wrong or the directions didn’t tell me, I did not see anything about it actually being night vision or infrared. So, other than using it as a last resort I can’t really say I have much use for it. The best thing about it, is that it was easy to plug and play… just not figure out otherwise….

      If you already do things with a webcam, this will do all of those things, but don’t get too excited about the 100 frames per second claim.
      Let’s start with the best: this is very solidly built, having a thick aluminum shell with built-in tripod socket. The picture quality is very crisp, with good contrast, and great performance in the dark when the IR lights come on. As with most IR security-type cameras, you (or at least _I_) can see the IR LEDs when they are on, but they don’t put out enough visible light for the eye to see anything if this is in a dark room. So I’m just saying, if you want a hidden camera, the LEDs will give it away.
      Next, it works perfectly as a webcam. I connected this to my MacBook, and it worked as well as the built-in webcam in applications such as Zoom, QuickTime, and OBS. According to the instruction pamphlet, it can produce 1920×1080 at 30 frames/sec, 1280×720 at 60 frames/sec, and 640×480 at 120 frames/sec. And this is what it reports to applications that use it (there is no 100 fps mode). And yes, it does produce 1920×1080 at 30fps, and 1280×70 at 60fps. However, most applications won’t even show the option of either 120 fps or 100 fps, in any case. My last hope was to capture some video from it using ffmpeg, which is a free download, if a bit tricky to get working. I WAS able to get this to work at 1080p30, 720p60, and 480p120 with ffmpeg, BUT I had to tell ffmpeg that I wanted 120.1 fps, or it just gave me I/O errors. If you want to try this, just google ffmpeg capture webcam, and there is plenty of help out there.
      This camera works great running into a USB2 port, but don’t believe for a second that it will work with USB1.1 as stated in the description.
      There are two quibbles I have with the picture. First, it is a bit greenish when it’s in color mode in daylight (as opposed to IR mode, which is perfectly gray). And second, there is a LOT of barrel distortion. If you ever wondered what it was to watch 1970s TV sets with their curved screens, just point this camera at a perfectly rectangular monitor, and you’ll see a convincing simulation of that. But this is due to it being such a wide-angle lens. It is SUPER wide angle, and there is no zoom control (except that which is added by some applications in the form of digital zoom).
      The IR lights are plenty bright, allowing for pretty good performance in otherwise total darkness.
      The price is a little high as webcams go, but the really solid build and the ability to mount it on a tripod make up for it, in my opinion. Just think of this as a webcam with decent night vision, and you won’t be disappointed.

      In my opinion this should only be bought by someone who already has cameras. Something it can hook up too. And know what they are doing. If you are starting from scratch you may encounter problems. Like I did. First for those of you who read thru the item real fast, like I did. It’s not wireless. The picture however is pretty decent. I got it to work somewhat work on my computer. The problem and why I said warning is you need software to make it work. It gives you some suggestions but the problem I encountered is all of them set off my antivirus software and warned me not to go to the sites. WTH? So I have not gotten this to work yet but still working on it so I can give it a proper review. Just wanted to give you a heads up until then.

      I am making my own night vision set up. It’s basically going to consist of this camera, a processing module, and a small field monitor. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use an Arduino or a raspberry pie for the processing and I’ve only done testing on the camera so far.

      But the images I’ve got have been very promising so I’m looking forward to this project. I have yet to test it in total darkness but on the very dark night I am getting adequate images at 20 yards or so which to me seems pretty good. The IR illuminators on the camera are pretty small so I might add a larger infrared light when I make my set up. Perhaps a focused IR flashlight which will give me some additional range in the dark hopefully.

      But the optics on this are surprisingly effective. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect so I’m pretty happy so far. I will post some images as I get further along on my project.

      This is a not just a board it has a housing so even though I am using this as a project camera not a finished product, it can be used as is.

      I’m interested to see if I can adapt it to use the interchangeable lenses that the other ELP cube cameras use. It’s definitely a fun little toy to play around with.

      Video shows just a random figure I had laying around and camera automatically toggling between night vision and normal lighting. I didn’t set up any special lighting for this, just my normal over-head light.

      I do like that it came with a lens cap! I’m not used to that being the case for these types, but I haven’t purchased many like this before.

      Plugged it into a USB on my PC straight out of the box and worked just fine w/o any issues. I’ve noted I haven’t been able to figure out focusing on it. Typically Windows Camera app will give you a focus control option if the camera can be manually adjusted… digitally… bit backwards, that haha. But WC doesn’t have any focus controls for this one. It kinda looks like I could manually turn the lens to focus but it doesn’t actually move. Box it came in had same images on it as another USB camera I got from this company and no instructions (other camera had none either). Listing says it comes with one, but I didn’t receive it.

      Listing says it can go fish eye lens or normal lens. I don’t see how that is possible without purchasing said lens separately.

      As-is though, the IR quality seems decent and overall this would be a good camera if I can figure out how to do any of the featured adjustments it claims it can do. Given the lack of instructions and the hefty price tag, I’d recommend waiting for a sale here. If you do just need an out-of-the-box functional USB night vision camera, this one works for that.

      Side-note, this listing needs to be re-written so it’s actually readable. It’s current state of camera terms tossed into a blender almost turned me off from trying this camera at all.

    The best camera for robotics
    We use this for vision tracking on the robot for our high school robotics team. This camera has a global shutter instead of the more common rolling shutter of most cameras. This insures when the robot grabs a frame all the pixels are from the same frame instead of a smeared picture that is part of the previous frame and part of the current frame.There are slightly cheaper global shutter cameras, but this one has a higher resolution.This is not your average webcam to use for video calls. It lacks a case or any mounting. For out robot, we design, and 3D print a custom case/mount that is optimized for where we need it on the robot.

      To start out with, let’s discuss what for many of you is probably the “elephant in the room”: It’s $167 for a USB CAMERA?

      Allow me to put that into just a little perspective. The only other place in the market you can get a Global Shutter equipped camera is the Sony Alpha 9 III, which is currently clocking in around $6,000. That’s right, not $600, $6,000.

      Suddenly, $167 bucks doesn’t sound nearly so bad, does it?

      Now, of course, this isn’t going to give you all the capabilities that the A9 III has, it is just a USB camera after all, whereas the A9 III is “the whole enchilada”, so to speak. But, what you DO get with this ELP is the most important (and the most expensive) part, the Global Shutter.

      But what IS a “Global Shutter”, you might be wondering. That’s easy, most cameras, be they DSLR or mirrorless, work in the same fashion, where an image is processed one line at a time. In a DSLR, this occurs as a result of 2 curtains, a front and a rear, traveling in front of the image sensor only allowing a line to be exposed at a time. In a mirrorless camera, it happens simply because that’s how they’re programmed and designed to work. This is called a “rolling shutter”, and has been the de-facto standard on cameras for a very long time.

      The Global Shutter, on the other hand, exposes the ENTIRE image at once, rather than a line at a time.

      Ok, you’re thinking. So what? Where will I actually see this played out? Easy, when you’re taking video of moving subject, especially rapidly moving subjects. Why? Have you ever seen video of a 3-D printer working, and seen odd “artifacts” where it seems like the print head will almost disappear and reappear in the next frame when it moves? This is an effect of the rolling shutter capturing an object in motion. Using this Global shutter camera pointed at your 3-D printer, those “tearing” video artifacts are a thing of the past, because the entire frame is exposed at once.

      By matter of fact, expensive digital movie cameras costing many tens of thousands of dollars have global shutters, and the Sony A9 III is the first to put this technology in the hands of the consumer videographer at $6,000. And also by matter of fact, this is pretty much the only place you’ll find this technology in a USB camera form, at the frankly RIDICULOUS price of $160. This is so worth the asking price, and the first time you set this up to capture some 3-D prints (or other rapid motion stuff) and see the artifact-free frame-by-frame crystal clear quality, you’ll understand what a steal this is. I mean, or you could go drop $6k on the Sony. I mean, lol. Seems an easy choice.

      The highest resolutions this will do are a bit low by “4k standards” at 2592×1944@50fps 2592×1440@60fps (personally, I think the 1440 / 60fps is more useful), but is still plainly better than “plain-old 1080p”, so I’m not terribly stressed about the lack of 4k support. Especially at the price.

      Do I recommend it? Absolutely. You won’t get a global shutter camera cheaper anywhere. Does it have everything I wish it had? No, not quite. They make a much better zoomable lens for these little USB board cameras which would be an excellent upgrade for this camera, and so would 4k resolution as well, even if it was 4k@30fps. But, once again, I find complaining difficult at this asking price. Especially standing in the shadow of the A9 III. This is an easy 5 stars. Excellent image quality, nearly universal compatibility, and that rocking Global Shutter make it a no-brainer for less then $200.

      This camera worked with Linux without need to add drivers, which is a big plus for me. I can’t see how the seller marketing this for Lightburn use makes any sense since there are relatively few people who have this need and a lot of that use isn’t critical. If you don’t already know it, a typical webcam has a progressive shutter, which means a single frame is actually a scan taken over time, similar to have a photocopy is made in a photocopier: you must hold the original still if you want the lightbar to scan everything properly, and if you move the original while it’s being scanned you end up stretching or shrinking the photocopied image (depending on how you moved the original relative to the scan direction of the lightbar) messing up your image.

      A standard webcam (and many very expensive cameras) photograph parts of the frame over time. This camera photographs the entire frame a the same moment.

      My use is to make sure mechanical watches are working properly. The balance continuously moves, changing directions at movement extremes. Meanwhile, the wheels move intermittently and often as time progresses. When I used a webcam before to inspect a watch I would get a smeared and distorted image, and some of the wheels may have advanced while others hadn’t done so yet. I rushed to try this camera out on a watch movement and every frame was meaningful and accurate, the positions of all parts in harmony for a properly working watch. This was a new experience for me – aside from when I would take photos in a dark room and rely on flash to stop all motion. This is so much easier!

      I think you should be sensitive to price. Though much less expensive than alternatives, more camera sensors are coming out with the global shutter feature. Every day that passes you should expect pricing to improve – that is unless someone decides to place tariffs on these products. I hope my experience has been a help in your buying decision.

      This is a decent camera – and needed for my laser engraver. I am impressed that it worked right out of the box in Windows 11. No need to hunt for drivers.

      I do wish it came with at least a minimal housing. It’s literally as pictured, on PCB board. While this does allow you to mount directly into your enclosure – it also assumes you have an enclosure.

      My neighbor is going to 3D print something for me to mount this on a tripod near my work area. That will do for now.

      Otherwise – this is a quality camera that’s compatible with LightBurn and worked with zero effort in Windows 11.

      If rolling shutter doesn’t bother you then you may have no need for this camera, but if you know what it is and hate it like I do then this is a great buy for a high def global shutter camera. I’m using it on my 3d printer which operates at very high speed and I wanted to be able to get footage of it’s movement without the rolling shutter effect. Was plug and play for me, didn’t need to update drivers or anything. I will likely pick up another soon I like it so much.
