  • Don Henley and Stevie Nicks’ 2015 Duet, a Ballad Originally Released by Garth Brooks’ ’90s Alter-Ego Chris Gaines

During the early to mid-1980s, years after Stevie Nicks and Don Henley‘s relationship had ended, the two reconnected on several collaborations, beginning with Nicks’ 1981 solo debut Bella Donna, and thier hit duet on “Leather and Lace,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Henley also joined on the backing vocals and drums on the Bella Donna track “The Highwayman,” and in 1985, the pair reunited for a cover of Warren Zevon‘s “Reconsider Me,” which ended up on Nicks’ 1998 box set Enchanted.

Both reconnected again 30 years later for Henley’s 2015 album Cass Country on an unlikely cover. Featured as a bonus track for Target, “It Don’t Matter to the Sun” was released 16 years earlier on Garth Brooks‘ album, released under his alter-ego moniker Chris Gaines.

    ‘The Life of Chris Gaines’

Initially, the character of Chris Gaines was created for a film called The Lamb, which starred Brooks as a rock star chronicling different periods throughout his life. The film was never released, but Brooks went ahead nad took on the persona of Gaines and his music with the 199 release of Garth Brooks in…The Life of Chris Gaines. Born in Brisbane, Australia to a mother who was an Olympic swimmer, and his father, who was her coach, the raven-haired Gaines survived a tragic car crash in the early1990s, which altered his appearance.

Produced by Don Was, The Life of Chris Gaines went to No. 2 and featured “It Don’t Matter to the Sun,” which was covered by singer and comedian Rosie Thomas and Glee star Matthew Morrrison years before Nicks and Henley’s version.

Written by Gordon Kennedy, Wayne Kirkpatrick, and Tommy Sims, “It Dont’ Matter to the Sun” follows a severed love and how the sun, the moon, and life still move on.

It don’t matter to the sun
If you go or if you stay
I know the sun is gonna rise
    Shine down on another day
There will still be a tomorrow
Even if you choose to leave
‘Cause it don’t matter to the sun (oh baby)
    It matters to me

It ain’t gonna stop the world
If you walk out that door
This old world will just keep on turning ’round
Like it did the day before
‘Cause see to them it makes no difference
It just keeps on keepin’ time
‘Cause it ain’t gonna stop the world
But it’ll be the end of mine

    What can I say
    What can I do
    I’m still in love
    So without you

    It don’t matter the moon
If your not in my life
No the moon will just keep hangin’ ’round
    Like it’s just another night
Find another place to shine on down
    On some other lovers dreams
‘Cause it don’t matter the moon
But is sure do matter to me
No it don’t matter to the moon
    But it matters to me

    Henley and Nicks

First connecting in the mid-1970s, Nicks and Henley dated for a few years before calling it off by the late ’70s. During their union, Nicks became pregnant with Henley and had an abortion, which may have been the partial inspiration behind the lyrics of “Sara,” released on Fleetwood Mac‘s Tusk.

“Had I married Don and had that baby, and had she been a girl, I would have named her Sara,” said Nicks. “But there was another woman in my life named Sara [Recor], who shortly after that became Mick’s wife, Sara Fleetwood.”

Released December 5, 1979, “Sara” went to No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nicks later revisited the name in 1987 on the Fleetwood Mac Tango in the Night track “Welcome to the Room…Sara” — When you hang up that phone / Well, you cease to exist / Welcome to the room, Sara.

By the ’80s, Nicks also talked openly about her relationship with Henely and their continued friendship. “Well, Don always treated me very special,” said Nicks. “He always kinda treated me like we were married, in that strange sorta way, he still does, whenever I see him. I think he found in me something that he has not probably found since, and that was somebody that was very… .”

Nicks continued, ”It was 1976, this was right after the beginning of when Fleetwood Mac really made it, and The Eagles had been big for a long time. So, he found a very different kind of girl in me than in most of the women that he was used to hanging out with, and we had a very special relationship because of that.”

In 2015, music legends Don Henley and Stevie Nicks teamed up for a powerful duet that left fans in awe. The song they chose to cover was a ballad originally released by Garth Brooks’ ’90s alter-ego, Chris Gaines.

The hauntingly beautiful track, titled “Lost in You,” was a departure from the country sound that Brooks was known for. With Henley’s soulful vocals and Nicks’ ethereal tone, the song took on a new life and resonated with listeners in a whole new way.

The collaboration between these two iconic artists was a match made in music heaven. Their voices blended seamlessly, creating a mesmerizing and emotional performance that captivated audiences around the world.

While the original version of “Lost in You” by Chris Gaines may have flown under the radar, Henley and Nicks’ rendition brought new attention to the song and showcased the timeless talent of both artists.

If you haven’t had the chance to listen to Don Henley and Stevie Nicks’ 2015 duet of “Lost in You,” do yourself a favor and give it a listen. It’s a truly magical musical moment that you won’t want to miss.

  • Home sales dip to level not seen since the ’90s

In a surprising turn of events, home sales have dipped to levels not seen since the 1990s. This unexpected decline has left many in the real estate industry scratching their heads and wondering what could be causing this downturn.

Experts point to a variety of factors that may be contributing to this drop in home sales. Rising interest rates, a lack of inventory, and changing consumer preferences are just a few of the potential reasons for the decline.

For homeowners looking to sell, this news may be disheartening. However, it’s important to remember that the real estate market is always changing and evolving. While sales may be down now, there’s no telling what the future holds.

For buyers, this could be a prime opportunity to snag a deal on a new home. With fewer people buying, sellers may be more willing to negotiate on price or other terms.

Only time will tell if this dip in home sales is a temporary blip or a sign of larger changes to come in the real estate market. In the meantime, both buyers and sellers should stay informed and be prepared to adapt to whatever the market throws their way.

  • How Doom: The Dark Ages draws from the ’90s Doom games

In place of Doom Eternal‘s “jump and shoot” gameplay loop, The Dark Ages focuses on more of a “stand and fight” mentality, the developers said. If Doom Eternal was like flying a fighter jet, then The Dark Ages is more like controlling a tank, they added by way of analogy.

That means a “flatter” game space, where the old-fashioned “strafe-to-aim” strategies work more effectively than in recent Doom games, with less need to be constantly floating through the air. The developers say they’re returning to the slower projectile speeds of the original Doom games, too, allowing players to more easily weave between them in a sort of first-person take on a shmup pattern. At the same time, your own projectile weapons tend toward the medium to short range, the developers said, encouraging you to take the fight close to the enemies.

While staggering enemies to set up instant Glory Kills is still a core part of The Dark Ages, the developers said the system has been redesigned to avoid taking control away from the player for extended, repetitive canned animations. The new Glory Kill system allows for instant, physics-based attacks that can be activated from any angle without interrupting the gameplay flow.

    The more things change

The Dark Ages developers also promised a more open design, where the usual more linear corridors are interspersed with larger playspaces that let you decide which direction to go and which objective to pursue in what order. And the standard shooting action will be broken up into specific sections where you control a 30-story mech or fly a powerful dragon.

But the core game will still include the requisite raft of secret areas and hidden nooks to discover, the developers promised. This time around, though, those secrets are more directly tied to your power progression rather than just being collectible in-game trinkets, the developers said.

It’s all in service of pushing toward a game that feels “new but familiar,” Martin said. The Dark Ages is still about the same sense of exploration and power that all good Doom games capture. But Martin said the development team is comfortable experimenting with what that specific sense of power is, “especially if the change you make brings it closer to classic Doom.”

But “I want to play a Doom game,” he added. “We don’t [want to] change so much that it’s not a Doom game.

Doom: The Dark Ages is scheduled to hit Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on May 15.

Doom: The Dark Ages is a modern take on the classic ’90s Doom games that pays homage to the original series while bringing new elements to the table. Here are some ways in which Doom: The Dark Ages draws inspiration from its predecessors:

    1. Iconic weapons: Just like in the original games, Doom: The Dark Ages features a variety of powerful weapons for players to use, including the iconic shotgun, chaingun, and BFG 9000. These weapons are essential for surviving the hordes of demons that stand in your way.

    2. Fast-paced gameplay: The fast-paced, frantic gameplay of the ’90s Doom games is preserved in Doom: The Dark Ages. Players must constantly be on the move, shooting and dodging enemies to stay alive.

    3. Atmospheric levels: The levels in Doom: The Dark Ages are designed to evoke the same sense of dread and unease as the original games. Dark corridors, eerie sound effects, and gruesome enemies all contribute to the game’s ominous atmosphere.

    4. Classic enemies: Fans of the original Doom games will be pleased to see familiar enemies such as Imps, Hell Knights, and Cacodemons making a return in Doom: The Dark Ages. These iconic foes are just as challenging and menacing as ever.

    5. Secret areas: Like its predecessors, Doom: The Dark Ages is filled with hidden secrets and Easter eggs for players to discover. Exploring every nook and cranny of each level is essential for finding valuable power-ups and bonus items.

Overall, Doom: The Dark Ages successfully captures the essence of the ’90s Doom games while adding its own unique twist. Fans of the original series will surely appreciate the homage paid to the classic games in this modern reimagining.

Today‘s Jenna Bush Hager and guest cohost Keke Palmer turned up the grease lightning when they surprised Andrew Rannells on the latest episode of the show.

The actor was in the studio to chat about his Broadway production All In: Comedy About Love when he was treated to an unexpected ’90s throwback clip of him and Amy Adams in a TV commercial parodying the hit musical Grease.

“But do you recognize the girl in the middle? Amy Adams!” said Rannells after the hosts ran the ad, which was for a bank in Omaha.

“Have you ever reconnected around that beautiful commercial you put together?” asked Hager.

Replied Rannells, “I kind of thought, at one point, I would run into Amy Adams somewhere, but —”

“Well let’s bring her out!” Palmer shouted. But sadly that was a joke.

Rannells then dove into an amusing anecdote about an encounter with his former commercial costar at a Golden Globes ceremony. “The one time I was asked to the Golden Globes, she was there. And you know it’s, like, the Hunger Games of celebrities,” recalled Rannells. “It’s like, everyone is there. I maybe walked towards her with a little too much enthusiasm, and her husband sort of got up and, like, blocked my path.”

He continued, “And I was like, ‘Amy, it’s me! Andy Rannells! We did a commercial together in Omaha in 1996!’ I just started shouting at her.”

The two were able to connect. “She was very nice,” said Rannells. “And then, weirdly, I saw her many times after that. She was always very sweet. And you know what? I’m going to say it: I knew when I met her she was something special.”

Both stars have come a long way since that humble little bank commercial. Adams, a six-time Academy Award nominee, is once again courting Oscar buzz for her work in Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch, while Rannells, a two-time Tony Award nominee and Grammy winner who has also had roles in movies and TV shows like Girls, recently boarded the star-studded All In.
