Samuel L Jackson has delivered some of the most memorable movie deaths in cinema history. Joe Pesci’s Tommy DeVito took him out in Goodfellas, while his demise at the hands of Emperor Palpatine marked a pivotal moment in the Star Wars prequel series. He was infamously devoured by a poorly rendered CGI shark in Deep Blue Sea, and sticking with computer-generated creatures, he met his end under the weight of none other than King Kong in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island.
If you ask a movie fan to name their favourite Jackson death, they might just say the one from Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster supreme, Jurassic Park. His character, Ray Arnold, goes on a mission to reset the facility’s security systems. Later, when Laura Dern’s Dr Ellie Sattler goes after her, she thinks she feels him putting his arm on her shoulder, only for it to be brilliantly revealed that a pack of velociraptors has torn off the limb. It’s a very memorable end – just not if you ask the man himself.
“I got killed in Jurassic Park. Well, they say I got killed,” he told GQ. “I still got this thing in my head where dude’s got one arm, and he’s around here riding around on Velociraptors. He made peace with them and figured out how to use them to his advantage or whatever.” An interesting theory from Jackson there, definitely not one that Michael Crichton ever followed up on in the original novel.
The star has some grounds to make this outlandish claim, as Arnold’s ‘death’ isn’t actually shown on screen. There were plans to film a longer, more elaborate scene depicting the character’s demise, but a hurricane destroyed the planned set. He features more prominently in the book than he does in the film, but Jackson was still able to make a splash with the minutes he was given. “Hold onto your butts” is one of the actor’s most quotable lines, to the point where it’s easy to forget that it actually comes from Jurassic Park.
Spielberg’s prehistoric adventure was one of the earliest big movies Jackson starred in. He had established himself somewhat with brief appearances in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing and the Harrison Ford vehicle Patriot Games, but he wasn’t the household name he is today. Pulp Fiction, the movie that really made him a star, was still a year away. Being involved in Jurassic Park, even very briefly, was massive for the late bloomer’s rise. It became the highest-grossing movie of all time, marking the first (but not the last) time Jackson contributed to a financial juggernaut.
Ray Arnold isn’t the only character that Jackson thinks survived a run-in with the movie’s baddie. When asked by Entertainment Weekly if he thought Mace Windu was still alive in the ‘Star Wars’ universe, he replied, “Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?” In a franchise that is obsessed with bringing characters back from the dead, it’s amazing Windu hasn’t resurfaced since his presumed demise in 2005.
Whilst Arnold is almost certainly actually dead, the series is still alive and well thanks to the ‘Jurassic World’ movies. Maybe there is a chance we could see him crop up again – it’s not likely, but it is possible.

Colombia will not accept deportation flights from the United States until the Trump administration provides a process to treat Colombian migrants with “dignity and respect,” the country’s president, Gustavo Petro, said on Sunday in a series of posts on X.
Mr. Petro also said that Colombia had already turned away military planes carrying Colombian deportees. While other countries in Latin America have raised concerns about President Trump’s sweeping deportation plans, Colombia appears to be the first to explicitly refuse to cooperate.
“I cannot make migrants stay in a country that does not want them,” Mr. Petro wrote, “but if that country sends them back, it should be with dignity and respect for them and for our country.”
Mr. Petro’s stance is likely to put him on a collision course with Mr. Trump, who since taking office last Monday has issued a series of executive orders and made other moves aimed at laying the groundwork to try to deport an enormous number of migrants.
The U.S. Embassy in Bogotá did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Among other things, Mr. Petro said he would be willing to allow civilian planes carrying deportees to land in Colombia, but not military aircraft. “A migrant is not a criminal,” he wrote on X.
He did not include details about when or how many military planes and migrants had been turned away.
It is not clear if Colombia can legally turn away its own citizens, or if or how many deportation flights it has received in the past. A representative for the president confirmed that the planes had been turned away, but did not immediately respond to other questions.
Mr. Petro’s statement was in response to a post referring to reports from a local news outlet about Brazil’s complaints of “inhumane” treatment of deported migrants stemming from a video of men seen disembarking in Brazil from a plane from the United States with their hands tied together.
The announcement comes as countries around the world are grappling with how to prepare for the mass deportations of illegal immigrants that Mr. Trump has threatened.

Children of a Lesser God director Randa Haines recalls seeing alleged bruises on Matlin during filming.
“I could see that they were having arguments, fights,” she claimed. “I remember once noticing a bruise. But I didn’t know. Nobody felt that they had license to enter into a private relationship or comment on it or ask questions about it.”
Haines also spoke about how Hurt “would tell a joke and turn his back to [Matlin] so that she couldn’t see.”
“I tried to understand what was going on,” she added. “But I saw that she was suffering from it.”
Before his death, Hurt said that he had apologized to Matlin.

Jim Acosta is threatening to quit CNN rather than accept a reassigned time slot that would see him move from late mornings to the graveyard shift, according to a report.
Acosta’s days at CNN may be numbered as the former White House correspondent known for his combative coverage of President Trump could be heading for the exits rather than accept a move that would see him broadcast a nightly show starting at midnight, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Another CNN staffer told Fox News Digital that Acosta was “getting hosed.”
Jim Acosta’s days at CNN may be numbered after the network offered him a time slot that would have him broadcast his show starting at midnight. CNN “Acosta is a talented broadcaster who could handle any slot on the network,” the unnamed staffer told Fox News Digital.
“The midnight thing is shocking [but] it is what it is.”
Mark Thompson, the CNN top boss, announced a lineup reshuffle that will see Wolf Blitzer move his “Situation Room” program from the early evenings to the mornings.
Blitzer will anchor his show alongside Pamela Brown, the network confirmed on Thursday. CNN also announced that it was laying off some 200 staffers as it transitions its focus away from its linear television operation to a more digital-centered news outlet.
The shift means that Acosta’s daily program, “CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta,” which airs weekdays at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, will be scrapped.

While Acosta’s move is widely perceived as a demotion given the fact that fewer people watch television in the midnight hour, a network source noted that a 12 a.m. Eastern Time show airs at 9 p.m. on the West Coast — which constitutes a prime time show in the Pacific time zone.
CNN announced on Thursday that it was laying off some 200 employees. REUTERS If Acosta were to accept his reassignment, he could be broadcasting his show from Los Angeles, which would necessitate him and his family moving from their current home in Washington, DC, according to a network source.
The source added that the East Coast is just “one slice of CNN’s global audience” and that the media outlet is “not an Acela corridor network.”
“CNN is a global news organization that broadcasts around the world, which would need to be noted,” the source added.
The source told The Post that a move to Los Angeles is not a requirement and that Acosta could continue to broadcast from Washington, DC, if he chose to do that.

There was a disproportionate amount of criticism from the media and the within support with emotions running high as Celtic conceded three goals for the third time in a month.
The Celtic Star was the only fan media outlet to attend yesterday’s pre-match media conferences at Lennoxtown and both Brendan Rodgers – who did a brilliant job of telling us Kieran Tierney was coming in this window without saying anything at all about Kieran Tierney coming in this window – and Kasper Schmeichel were able to provide perspective of where Celtic are and how maybe the second half at dens Park was done to the volume of matches that the team has played in recent weeks.

And obviously, of course, if you’ve won it, like we did last season against a great rival, then it makes it extra special. If you can get to the final and win it, then it can be a great end to your season,” Brendan said.
Rodgers has a great respect for Derek McInnes rating him highly for the work that he has done at both Aberdeen and Kilmarnock and will accordingly be well aware of the threat that today’s opponents will pose at Celtic Park.
‘It’s a really tough game against them’
“He’s a really good manager who’s got a lot of experience. And especially up here, he knows what it takes to win games. His teams are always difficult to play against.
“They’re well-organised, well-motivated. They work very hard. It’s a really tough game against them. Obviously, we played earlier in the season as well at home and played well and had a good scoreline. But it’s a cup game. So, we have to be ready to play against them.”
