  • Actor James Marsden Has ‘A Desire To Have More Meaning In My Work’

Over his 30-year career so far, Emmy-nominated actor James Marsden has consistently grabbed our full attention with his many memorable on-screen performances. From playing Cyclops in the X-Men films and “the other man” Lon Hammond in The Notebook to Corny Collins in Hairspray, Prince Edward in the Enchanted films and Teddy Flood on the Westworld series, Marsden, 51, has built quite the impressive career for himself, with plenty of longevity, something many working actors could only dream of happening.

Fresh off of his third box office hit Sonic the Hedgehog film, Marsden can now be seen in the new Hulu series, Paradise, where he plays the President of the United States. Created by This Is Us mastermind Dan Fogelman and co-starring Sterling K. Brown and Julianne Nicholson, Paradise is a wildly gripping political thriller, with several twists and turns, that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Knowing that Marsden is no stranger to playing a President, as he previously played John F. Kennedy in Lee Daniels’ 2013 film The Butler, I wondered what it was about his Paradise character, President Cal Bradford, that intrigued him in making this his next role to take on.

Marsden said, “I think the answer to that question is this was a portrayal of a President in a very unconventional way. He’s kind of rewriting the definition of what a President looks like. We’re getting to see somebody who’s in that position of power, who doesn’t really want the job. I think he was sort of bred to be this – to get into politics by his father and a long line of Bradfords doing exceptional things. I think that decision to get into politics was made for him, not by himself. So, here he is in a position that he doesn’t necessarily want to be in, that I feel like he does feel qualified for on some level, as a man who ultimately when it gets serious, that he will try to make the right decision for the good of the people.”

So, through Marsden’s experiences in filming Paradise and at this stage of his career today, I was curious if he has perhaps noticed that his interests in storytelling have evolved in recent years.

“Yeah, of course,” Marsden said. “I mean, as you grow through life and mature into ‘an old man,’ things come into focus more clearly of what’s really important to you – how you want to spend your time. From a storytelling perspective, what good can you put out there? Whether it’s a laugh – something crazy like Jury Duty with humor. What truly resonates with you? When you’re young, you take jobs and you take work to work. You do the best and I still loved it – you want to make it as great as possible, but you also want to work. As you get older, if you’re fortunate enough, and I feel very privileged to say this, I can take work – it feels like when I really want to, but only when I feel like there’s something to be said. Not a message necessarily, but how I can move somebody with this story. Here’s maybe a feeling or a thought or a story or a character that could put a smile on somebody’s face, or make that person reconsider certain parts about the human experience that they might not have touched on in their experience in life. I want to play less one-dimensional bad guys. I have a desire to have more meaning in my work now.”

Beyond Marsden’s ongoing dedication to his acting craft, he is also a father of three to Jack, Mary and William. So, I asked him – Who is James Marsden in 2025? What motivates you most and brings you the greatest purpose and passion to your days lately?

“Oh man! Well, my children do and they always have. Time does. I think when you’re younger, you don’t value time as much. I love working, but I’ve been sort of slowly reevaluating how much time I do want to be working and how much time I want to be living. One of the things that’s in the job description with being an actor is the feeling that you’re never going to work again. That’s been with me for a really, really long time. What that’s caused is a great fortune in a business that’s been very good to me, but a lot of time away – a lot of time traveling, a lot of time working. I feel like, nowadays, I want to really make sure that I insert value in my time, more than just on the work level.”

Now that Marsden is somewhat seasoned in knowing how to play a President on-screen, following his experiences over these eight episodes of the new Paradise Hulu series, I was curious what Marsden would make his very first plan of action, if he were President, and what he would want to do for the world.

“Get everyone to chill the f—- out,” Marsden said with a laugh. “Let’s all realize that we all breathe the same air and we’re not that different. I feel like things that bring us together: music, love, the feelings of belonging, acceptance, laughter can be unifying. I know that that’s maybe a little bit of a loosey-goosey, sweet thing to say, but it’s powerful. I know there are things in the way that we can’t just ‘John Lennon’ it through life. It’s going to be complicated, but no bloodshed – no wars. That’s enough. I think that’s an antiquated solution and it’s not a solution. That’d be a big one for me. I don’t know if I have the answer to it or how, but I would like to see that done away with. Now with globalization, we are all feeling much closer to each other than we ever did before, that maybe the good of that could be understanding each other a little more.”

Actor James Marsden has recently opened up about his desire to have more meaning in his work. Known for his roles in popular films such as “The Notebook” and “X-Men”, Marsden has expressed a longing to take on projects that have a deeper impact on audiences.

In a recent interview, Marsden shared that he is drawn to roles that challenge him and allow him to explore different aspects of his craft. He stated, “I want to do projects that make people think, that make people feel something. I want to be a part of stories that have a lasting impact.”

Marsden’s commitment to seeking out meaningful projects has already been evident in his recent work. From his role in the critically acclaimed series “Westworld” to his upcoming projects, Marsden is dedicated to pushing boundaries and taking on roles that push him out of his comfort zone.

As he continues to pursue roles that resonate with audiences, it is clear that James Marsden is committed to making a lasting impact in the entertainment industry. Fans can look forward to seeing more of his powerful performances in the future.

  • Actor Idris Elba Suggests ‘Blunting’ Knives To Reduce Stabbings In UK. Social Media Reacts

Amid the uptick in knife crimes in the UK, actor Idris Elba has come up with a solution that has divided the public. The British actor said the government must consider “innovative” prevention methods, including blunting or banning knives. Mr Elba has spent the last year developing a documentary about solutions to knife crime during which he met families of the victims, police officers and the perpetrators.

“The truth is that kitchen knives are perhaps 25 per cent of the knives used in most of the terrible crimes. That’s one of the stats in the film. And those kitchen knives are usually a domestic situation. So kitchen knives…of course, it’s very difficult. They’re a domestic knife,” said Mr Elba.

“I do think there is areas of innovation that we can do with kitchen knives. I hate to say it. Not all kitchen knives need to have a point on them. That sounds like a crazy thing to say, but actually, it would reduce- you know, you can still cut your food without the point on your knife, which is an innovative way to sort of look at it,” he said. “In a country in crisis, I’m sorry, but yeah, let’s look at that.”

The Thor star also called out social media platforms and said they should take responsibility for their actions.

“When it comes to big tech, there needs to be accountability within their own policies, and their policies need to be educated and driven by what society deems is right or wrong,” he argued.

    Social media reacts

Social media users did not take kindly to Mr Elba’s suggestion with many pointing out that the weapon did not stop an accused from going on slicing sprees.

“Next time he does an action movie, I want him to use a Nerf gun instead of a realistic, looking one,” said one user, while another added: “Maybe all cutlery should be banned and everyone issued with their own spork?”

A third commented: “I don’t think that will solve the problem, sir.”

    Knife crime

The knife crime crisis in the UK came into the spotlight yet again after Axel Rudakubana, 18, was sentenced to 52 years in prison after he stabbed three young girls to death and attempted the murder of eight other children and two adults in July last year.

The Labour government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called knife crime a “national crisis”. His administration has pledged to halve knife crime in the next decade. A ban on some knives and machetes came into force in September last year but the spate of stabbings has not stopped.

British actor Idris Elba has recently suggested a controversial solution to reduce stabbings in the UK – ‘blunting’ knives. In a recent interview, Elba proposed the idea of making knives with rounded tips instead of sharp points in an effort to prevent fatal stabbings.

Social media has been buzzing with reactions to Elba’s suggestion, with some praising his creative thinking and others criticizing the idea as impractical and ineffective. Many have pointed out that blunting knives would not address the root causes of violence in society and could potentially lead to unintended consequences.

What are your thoughts on Idris Elba’s proposal to ‘blunt’ knives? Do you think it could help reduce stabbings in the UK, or do you believe there are better solutions to address the issue of knife crime? Let us know in the comments below. #IdrisElba #KnifeCrime #Stabbings #UKViolence

Director Christopher Nolan is set to reunite with one of the stars from his multi-award-winning film Oppenheimer for his next movie.

The Inception director will follow up his Oscar win with an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, which is set to be released in July 2026.

One of the most significant works of early literature, it is attributed to the poet Homer and is believed to have been written in the eighth century BC. It is a mythical tale following the Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he journeys home after the Trojan War.

It was previously confirmed that the film will feature an all-star cast, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron.

Joining the cast, as per The Hollywood Reporter, is Benny Safdie, who played physicist Edward Teller in Oppenheimer.

Safdie, 38, has also appeared in the Nathan Fielder TV show The Curse and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. He is due to star in the forthcoming sequel to Happy Gilmore and is in post-production on his solo directorial debut The Smashing Machine. Safdie previously co-directed the critically lauded Uncut Gems and Good Time with his brother, Josh Safdie.

It is not the first time The Odyssey has been adapted for the screen. Kirk Douglas played Ulysses (the Latin name for Odysseus) in Mario Camerini’s 1954 film Ulysses. The 1905 short silent film The Mysterious Island by Georges Méliès is based on scenes from The Odyssey.

The epic poem has also provided the inspiration for several films that transposed the heroic tale to different times and settings, including Cold Mountain, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

Earlier this year, Nolan’s longtime producer and wife Emma Thomas teased the forthcoming feature in an interview with Empire.

“I would say it’s very exciting,” she said. “This is the moment where the possibilities are sort of limitless, we haven’t started thinking practicalities, or anything.

Oppenheimer was so absurdly successful and we feel like we have an opportunity.”

Exciting news for fans of Christopher Nolan and actor Cillian Murphy! The acclaimed director is set to reunite with Murphy, who portrayed J. Robert Oppenheimer in Nolan’s latest film, for a new project.

Details about the upcoming movie are being kept under wraps, but with Nolan at the helm and Murphy on board, it’s sure to be another thrilling and visually stunning cinematic experience.

The duo has previously collaborated on several successful films, including “Inception,” “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” and most recently, “Oppenheimer.” Their partnership has consistently delivered critically acclaimed performances and captivating storytelling.

Stay tuned for more updates on Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy’s new movie, as we eagerly anticipate another masterpiece from this dynamic duo.

  • Why Will Ferrell feud with Marvel actor killed Elf sequel

The story behind why a sequel to Elf never materialized reportedly hinges on a behind-the-scenes feud between star Will Ferrell and director Jon Favreau.

It’s been over two decades since Buddy the Elf (Ferrell) made his unforgettable journey from the North Pole to New York City, seeking out his estranged father (James Caan) in what would go on to become a modern holiday classic.

Yet, despite its lasting success and even inspiring Elf: The Musical on Broadway, one lingering question remains: why was there never a sequel?

Back in 2006, Ferrell shot down a $29 million offer to reprise his role, telling The Guardian, ‘I killed the idea of a sequel. I never liked it.’

He later revealed in 2021, the script just didn’t sit right with him: ‘I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place, which would’ve been, like, “Oh no, it’s not good. I just couldn’t turn down that much money.”‘

But it wasn’t just Ferrell’s discomfort with the sequel that killed the project — in 2020, Caan spilled the beans that the real reason Elf 2 never happened was the major beef between Ferrell and Favreau.

‘We were gonna do it and I thought, “Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do,”‘ the late actor explained to Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan’s Bull & Fox.

He continued: ‘The director and Will didn’t get along very well. So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract. It was one of those things.’

This tension between star and director was reportedly so severe that the contracts for a sequel were structured in such a way that both Ferrell and Favreau needed to be on board for it to move forward.

Needless to say, that never happened.

While Ferrell hasn’t publicly delved into the specifics of the contracts, he’s been clear about his reasons for stepping away.

In his Guardian interview, he remarked, ‘$29 million does seem a lot of money for a guy to wear tights, but it’s what the marketplace will bear.

‘It’s insane, but it’s not my call. The studios perpetuate it, and they make it hard to say no.’

But, Ferrell insists, turning down the hefty payday wasn’t difficult.

‘I remember asking myself: could I withstand the criticism when it’s bad and they say, ‘He did the sequel for the money’? I decided I wouldn’t be able to.

‘I didn’t want to wander into an area that could erase all the good work I’ve done. But you watch, I’ll do some sequel in the future that’s crap.’

The actor remained firm in his stance even years later.

In a 2013 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, when asked about the possibility of a sequel, Ferrell replied with characteristic humor and conviction.

”Absolutely not. I just think it would look slightly pathetic if I tried to squeeze back in the elf tights: Buddy the middle-aged elf.”

Meanwhile, Favreau has always been measured in his comments about a sequel.

In 2023, he explained why he thought Elf didn’t need to be revisited.

But it wasn¿t just Ferrell¿s discomfort with the sequel that killed the project ¿ in 2020, Caan spilled the beans that the real reason Elf 2 never happened was the major beef between Ferrell and Favreau; from left, Amy Sedaris, Caan and Ferrell

‘I think there’s always room for new Christmas movies,’ Favreau told Variety. ‘That particular film, I don’t know what story would be told after that. It’s very complete.’

And even in 2016, when the topic of a sequel came up, Favreau expressed skepticism.

‘There is part of me that wonders if there’s anything to be done to follow up Elf, but I think a straight sequel is probably not the right move,’ he told Yahoo.

At the end of the day, it seems that Elf was always meant to be a one-time holiday miracle.

Why Will Ferrell Feud with Marvel Actor Killed Elf Sequel

Recently, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding a potential feud between comedy legend Will Ferrell and a Marvel actor, which ultimately led to the cancellation of a much-anticipated Elf sequel.

Sources close to the situation revealed that the feud began when the Marvel actor made disparaging remarks about Ferrell’s comedic talents during a press interview. Ferrell, known for his quick wit and sharp tongue, did not take kindly to the comments and fired back with some scathing remarks of his own.

The situation escalated quickly, with both parties refusing to back down. As a result, discussions about the Elf sequel were put on hold indefinitely, much to the disappointment of fans who were eagerly awaiting the return of Buddy the Elf.

While the exact details of the feud remain unclear, it’s clear that there is no love lost between Ferrell and the Marvel actor. Only time will tell if the two can bury the hatchet and move past their differences, or if this feud will continue to linger on and affect their professional endeavors. Stay tuned for more updates as this story unfolds.

  • Neither Pacino nor McConaughey: this actor made the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history

The Oscars are a treasure trove of unforgettable moments. There are the emotional speeches that leave us reaching for tissues, the unexpected wins that make us cheer, and the occasional mishaps that become instant memes. But among all these, there’s one moment that stands out not for its drama or its tears, but, some would say, for its sheer audacity. It’s a moment so bold, so unapologetically lengthy, that it has never been matched in the decades since.

When was the longest Oscars acceptance speech?

Picture this: it’s the 1940s, and the Oscars are a very different affair. The ceremony is smaller, more intimate, and far less concerned with fitting into a tight TV schedule. There’s no orchestra waiting to play winners off the stage, no countdown clock ticking away in the background. It’s a time when Hollywood’s biggest stars could take the stage and truly make it their own. And one star did just that – in a way no one would ever forget, well, other than everyone reading this article!

The year was 1942. World War II was raging, and the world was hungry for stories that offered hope and resilience. That year, a film about the quiet strength of a family during wartime captured the hearts of audiences and critics alike. Its leading lady, a British actress known for her poise and elegance, delivered a performance so moving that it earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress. But it wasn’t her win that made history – it was what she did next.

Out of interest, the legend that was Mr Alfred Hitchcock gave us arguably the shortest in 1953!

How long was the longest Oscars acceptance speech?

When her name was called, she stepped up to the podium, trophy in hand, and began to speak. And speak. And speak. For five and a half minutes, she held the room captive, weaving together gratitude, anecdotes, and even a few philosophical musings. She thanked everyone from her directors and co-stars to the crew members who had worked tirelessly behind the scenes. She shared personal reflections on her journey and the significance of the film’s message during such a tumultuous time. It was a speech that was as much a celebration of her craft as it was a testament to the people who had helped her along the way.

Today, such a speech would be unthinkable. The Oscars are a tightly choreographed spectacle, with winners often given a mere 45 seconds to deliver their thanks before the orchestra swells and the microphone fades out. Even the most powerful speeches – like Adrien Brody’s heartfelt tribute in 2003 or Viola Davis’s emotional outpouring in 2017 – have had to fight against the clock. But back in 1943, there was no clock to fight. There was only the moment, and this actress seized it with both hands.

Who gave the longest Oscars speech?

Not everyone was impressed, of course. Some found her speech indulgent, a bit too much for the occasion. But others admired her for owning the moment with such unapologetic grace. After all, how often do you get to stand on that stage, holding that golden statue, and say exactly what’s on your mind?

So, who was this actress, and why does her speech still matter all these years later? Her name was Greer Garson, and her record-breaking moment is more than just a quirky footnote in Oscars history. It’s a reminder of a time when Hollywood’s biggest stars weren’t afraid to take up space, to speak their minds, and to savor their moment in the spotlight. It’s a testament to an era when the Oscars felt less like a TV show and more like a celebration of art and artistry.

And let’s be honest: her record is probably safe. Unless the Academy decides to ditch the orchestra and bring back the laid-back vibes of the 1940s, no one’s going to come close to five and a half minutes. So, if you’re an aspiring Oscar winner dreaming of making history, take note. Start drafting your speech now—and maybe practice speaking really, really fast.

Greer Garson’s moment on the Oscars stage is a testament to a bygone era, a time when stars weren’t afraid to take their time and make their mark. And while Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey might be remembered for their profound words, Garson will always be remembered for one thing: taking her sweet, sweet time.

And the Oscar for the Longest Acceptance Speech in History goes to… Greer Garson!

While names like Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey may come to mind when thinking of memorable Oscar speeches, it was actually Greer Garson who holds the record for the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history.

Garson, known for her roles in classic films like Mrs. Miniver and Goodbye, Mr. Chips, delivered an acceptance speech that lasted a whopping 5 minutes and 30 seconds when she won the Best Actress award in 1943.

Her speech was filled with gratitude, emotion, and heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the film that brought her the prestigious award. While some may have found it a bit lengthy, there’s no denying the sincerity and passion behind Garson’s words.

So next time you think of legendary Oscar speeches, don’t forget about Greer Garson and her record-breaking moment in Hollywood history.

  • Colin Farrell Has The Best Response After Someone Informed Him He’s The Third Batman Actor To Land An Award After Heath Ledger And Joaquin Phoenix

2024 was filled with some excellent TV performances, and one that truly made an impression was Colin Farrell’s turn as the titular character on “The Penguin.” It was expected that the actor and his collaborators would eventually receive some awards recognition, so it wasn’t surprising when the series scored awards nods. Farrell was ultimately among the 2025 Golden Globe winners this weekend. Now, I’m just loving his funny response to becoming the third Batman actor to win the award after Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix. Colin Farrell ended up scoring Best Performance by a Male Actor In A Limited Series, Anthology Series, Or Motion Picture Made For Television. The 48-year-old Irish actor gave a spirited acceptance speech, at which point he thanked the DC Studios show’s cast and crew as well as craft services. During the post-win press conference, Farrell addressed journalists, humbly expressing gratitude for the honor.

Colin Farrell’s Humble Reaction to Being the Third Batman Actor to Win an Award

Recently, Colin Farrell was informed that he has joined the ranks of Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix as the third Batman actor to win an award. Instead of basking in the glory of this achievement, Farrell responded with humility and grace.

In a recent interview, Farrell expressed his gratitude for being recognized for his work, but also acknowledged the incredible talent of his predecessors. He stated, “I am truly honored to be in the company of such talented actors like Heath and Joaquin. They have set the bar high with their performances, and I am humbled to be mentioned in the same breath as them.”

Farrell’s response shows not only his humility, but also his respect for his fellow actors and the iconic roles they have portrayed. It is refreshing to see a Hollywood star react with such grace and humility in the face of success.

Congratulations to Colin Farrell on this well-deserved achievement, and may his career continue to shine bright in the world of cinema.

  • Dave Franco to play Luigi Mangione in his biopic? Actor reacts to memes and possible theories

The internet is abuzz with the latest dream fan casting, and this time, it involves none other than the talented and almost universally loved Dave Franco. Over the past several days, there has been a growing contingent of netizens vocalizing their support behind the star portraying Luigi Mangione in a potential biopic.

Mangione has risen to infamy after being accused of the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024. While he is currently awaiting trial, the context of his crime and his good looks have combined to garner him an outpour of public sympathy.

Many go as far as to consider this a potential breaking point for insurance companies in America, as costs and premiums continue to rise while the average citizen struggles to afford basic health care.

Off the heels of this trending story, Franco, for his part, has been linked to playing the possible role because they share an uncanny resemblance to one another. Doppelganger alert!

    Dave Franco Responds

While at this year’s Sundance Film Festival alongside his wife Alison Brie and director Michael Shanks to promote their film Together (a festival darling), the dream casting was addressed by a representative from The Hollywood Reporter.

Someone from the publication is distinctly heard asking from off-camera,

“Has anyone approached you to play Luigi? To play hot Luigi?”

Brie, no stranger to comedic timing, was quick to reply,

    “Anyone? Do you mean everyone?”

The 39-year-old actor then went on to share,

“I have never received more texts in my life about anything. Not just friends. Anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it.”

Clearly, anyone with access to the star is eager to see him in the role and is blowing up his phone to share the feeling as the memes and social content continue to fill our feeds. Whether or not this comes to fruition is another story entirely. What is of note, however, is that Franco was not dismissive, nor did he shut down the speculation, so there is a chance this project will eventually come to life.

As of now, Mangione has pleaded not guilty to the New York State charges for which he is awaiting trial. While federal charges also loom, his legal team has not yet been requested to enter a plea on these charges as of the latest update from the court and his attorneys.

    Dave Franco’s career explored

Franco’s diverse filmography includes roles in Oscar-nominated and critically acclaimed hit The Disaster Artist, as well as memorable supporting roles in the Neighbors comedy franchise alongside Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. He also made his presence felt in Apple TV’s The Afterparty series, although his work as Eric Molson on the Jump Street films may still stand out as his best work.

In 2020, Franco made his directorial debut in the horror thriller The Rental. He wrote the screenplay for the film alongside collaborator Joe Swanberg, which stars an ensemble cast of familiar faces, including Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Jeremy Allen White, and Sheila Vand. It was released to generally favorable reviews on July 24, 2020.
