Chief Drake Announces the Creation of a New Additional Officer Work Shift Effective Tomorrow
In keeping with the police department’s commitment to be innovative in its mission to enhance Nashville’s safety, Chief John Drake today announced the implementation of an additional overlapping officer work shift effective February 1 to enhance police visibility during peak hours and reduce response time for non-emergency calls.
“The new D-shift, to be staffed by a total of 41 officers, 5 sergeants and 1 lieutenant, will operate 7 days a week between the hours of noon and 10:30 p.m.,” Chief Drake said. “D-shift officers will have the flexibility to provide additional resources to any of our 8 precincts across the county, particularly those that have a higher volume of pending calls.”
Officers comprising the D-shift had been part of precinct-based community engagement teams, which continue to be fully operational, just with fewer personnel. Chief Drake noted that community engagement will always be one of the MNPD’s core pillars.
The new D-shift will provide for 4 overlapping shifts on a daily basis:
- Day Detail (A-shift): 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Evening Detail (B-shift): 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
- Overnight Detail (C-shift): 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Afternoon/Evening Detail (D-shift): noon-10:30 p.m.
The D-shift will be led by Lieutenant Brad Nave. Considering regular days off, vacations, sick leave, in-service training, etc., the D-shift will operate with a minimum staffing of 18 officers plus supervisors. Besides supporting precincts with a high call volume, D shift officers will also assist in securing large crime scenes, respond to demonstrations/protests, and support other precision policing efforts.
Attention all department members,I am pleased to announce that starting tomorrow, we will be implementing a new additional officer work shift to better serve our community. This decision comes in response to the increasing demands and calls for service that our department has been receiving.
The new shift will provide us with more coverage during peak hours and help us maintain a proactive approach to crime prevention. Our goal is to enhance our response times and overall effectiveness in keeping our community safe.

5.0Boeing projects additional Starliner losses in fourth quarter
WASHINGTON — Boeing says it expects to take additional losses on its CST-100 Starliner commercial crew program when it releases its fourth quarter financial results next week.
In a Jan. 23 press release, Boeing provided preliminary results for the fourth quarter of 2024. That included a projection of $1.7 billion in charges against earnings for five programs in its Defense, Space and Security business unit.
Most of those charges will go towards two programs: $800 million for the KC-46A tanker and $500 million for the T-7A trainer aircraft. That leaves $400 million in charges for Starliner as well as the VC-25B presidential aircraft and MQ-25 drone.
Boeing offered similar guidance for its third quarter results in October, initially warning of $2 billion of charges, $1.6 billion of which would go towards the KC-46A and T-7A. The company later reported $250 million in charges on Starliner in the third quarter.
Boeing didn’t provide any additional details on the expected charges against earnings. The company is scheduled to report its fourth quarter financial results Jan. 28.
Boeing and NASA have offered few updates on the status of Starliner since shortly after the spacecraft returned to Earth uncrewed in September to complete the Crew Flight Test mission. NASA elected to keep astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who launched on Starliner in June, on the station citing concerns about the performance of thrusters that malfunctioned during the spacecraft’s journey to the station. Starliner landed safely in White Sands, New Mexico.
In October, NASA said it was pushing back the first operational Starliner mission beyond 2025, electing to use SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft for both the Crew-10 mission, now launching to the ISS in March, and Crew-11 in late summer.
“The timing and configuration of Starliner’s next flight will be determined once a better understanding of Boeing’s path to system certification is established,” NASA said at the time. “NASA is keeping options on the table for how best to achieve system certification, including windows of opportunity for a potential Starliner flight in 2025.” The agency has not provided updates on the status of Starliner since then.
Boeing has also not provided updates since stating in its last earnings call in October that it was studying ways to streamline its business, which could involve discontinuing work in some areas outside of commercial aviation and defense. Kelly Ortberg, Boeing’s chief executive, said then that “there’s probably some things on the fringe that we can be more efficient with or that just distract us from our main goals.”
In a report released Jan. 23, venture firm Space Capital predicted that both Boeing and Airbus would divest their space divisions this year. The report stated that the divestitures, if they occur, would mark “a pivotal moment in the space economy” by shaking up the industry, creating “new opportunities and risks in the government’s extended capabilities in space.”

CD Projekt has announced that patch 2.21 for Cyberpunk 2077 is rolling out to players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. The brunt of the changes are largely fixes for photo mode, as well as DLSS 4 support for PC players.
While patch 2.2 added a much deeper look at customization in photo mode, 2.21 adds heaps of fixes for the mode. One of the most notable is the ability to finally save characters and V’s rotation and position within your Photo Mode presets.
There are also fixes present for “texture and color inconsistencies for vehicles that have CrystalCoat applied,” in addition to several other menu fixes for the vehicle customization system added in patch 2.11.
For those looking at creating a character in future runs, you can now also preserve randomizer settings within the character creator after further customization of character attributes.
There are also a handful of changes to allow Johnny Silverhand to appear more in the passenger seat of your car if you’re ever feeling lonely while driving along the streets of Dogtown. Patch 2.2 originally sought to resolve this by having Johnny sitting shotgun around 25% of the time, which didn’t happen. The inverse also occurred, where Johnny could appear duplicated in the passenger seat in quests where he is set to appear during a scripted event. The new patch will solve any ghostly duplications of Silverhand, and have him spend more time with V in a car this time around.
Most notably, the game has also added DLSS 4 support for PC players, as well as Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50-series GPUs. This tool will now allow players to boost their FPS by “up to three times per traditionally rendered frame,” so long as you have the new GPUs to run it.
RTX 40-series users can also enjoy “faster single frame generation with reduced memory usage.” All Nvidia RTX GPU owners can also choose between the traditional CNN model in DLSS features to the new Transformer model, which CD Projekt claimed can enhance “stability, lighting, and detail in motion.”
RTX users can also enjoy enhanced Ray Reconstruction, with fewer artifacts and smudging in patch 2.21. CD Projekt has not announced whether or not this might be a final update to Cyberpunk 2077, as the company transitions to full development on The Witcher 4.
