  • Bill Burr and Billy Corgan address brother rumors in surprise first meeting


    Whether or not Bill Burr and Billy Corgan actually share a father, they do have at least one thing in common: a vendetta against Howie Mandel.

    The Howie Does Stuff host staged an (alleged) family reunion between the two Bills on the latest episode of his podcast — but much to their chagrin, he did so without telling the whole truth. Burr in particular was caught off guard when his visit to the pod was crashed by a “surprise” special guest: the Smashing Pumpkins guitarist who went viral a few months ago for theorizing that he and Burr may be half brothers.

    “You’re an a–hole,” Burr immediately told Mandel, while shaking Corgan’s hand. This response was a surprise to Corgan, who insisted, “He told me you were cool with me coming.”

    “That’s what he does,” Burr replied. When Corgan offered to leave, Burr sat back in his seat saying, “All right, f— it, I’ll do it.”

    The comedian then directed his apparent irritation at Corgan. “Did you ever think the fact that I never told that story [meant] that maybe you shouldn’t?”

    The story in question came up during Corgan’s November conversation with Mandel, when he revealed that 10 years prior, his stepmother told him that Burr “might be one of the children that your father sired in his days being a traveling musician.” Corgan himself recalled his father saying that he had a half-brother named Bill, who was born around the same time as him (Corgan is 57 and Burr 56). The musician insisted at the time that he was being serious, though he later expressed doubts about actually being related to Burr.

    While reflecting on the theory with Mandel and Corgan, however, Burr hinted that there may be some truth to the story.

    “He was a piece of s—,” he said of his father. “He had two kids this close together, and he gave them the same f—ing name? He thinks it’s different because he’s Billy and I’m Bill. That’s how he told the difference.”

    Burr then clarified that while he has nothing against Corgan, the speculation brings up negative memories. In an effort to lighten the mood, Corgan reaffirmed his own doubts, gesturing to Burr and joking, “The fact that he said he can’t sing, I think, disproves that we’re related, ’cause I’m not funny, so…it goes both ways.”

    Burr again expressed frustration with Corgan for sharing the story in the first place, asking, “Why did you feel the need to do that?” The musician defended himself by pointing to Mandel, explaining that he insisted Corgan share the story on air after being told privately.

    Burr then tore into Mandel for setting up the encounter for the sake of “ratings,” quipping, “What was supposed to happen? Are we going to go play catch? We’re both in our 50s.”

    Corgan jumped in, telling Mandel, “This is some Dr. Phil s— you got going on.”

    Burr observed that he and Corgan were making a connection after all. “I think we’re kind of on the same page in thinking you’re kind of a d— right now,” he told Mandel.

    At one point, Mandel stepped out of the room to let the two converse alone, while emotional piano music swelled in the background. Burr and Corgan took a few moments to discuss their “relationship with dad,” comparing the different details they knew of his life.

    “It’s funny though? If we were born during the internet… I don’t think you can get away with that anymore. Like at some point, it did become funny to me that he did have multiple families. There was something wild about that,” Burr commented, then laughed, noting, “I’m kind of forgetting that we’re on a  podcast.”

    “At least we broke the cycle,” Burr continued, then proceeded to mock the still-absent Mandel, poking fun at his America’s Got Talent gig.  “At least we’re not on some awful network show judging plate spinners, or whatever the fuck Howie’s career has become,” he quipped.

    By the end of their conversation, Burr said he was convinced: “We have the same father.”

    Representatives for Burr and Corgan did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.

  • Darfur: ICC Prosecutor urges immediate action to address atrocities


    Briefing ambassadors, Karim Khan highlighted the urgent need for justice and accountability as violence and humanitarian suffering escalate.

    “Criminality is accelerating in Darfur. Civilians are being targeted, women and girls are subjected to sexual violence, and entire communities are left in destruction,” he said.

    “This is not just an assessment; it is a hard-edged analysis based on verified evidence.”

    Violence in Darfur has displaced thousands of families and devastated the region, with vital civilian infrastructure attacked, civilians killed and communities suffering from famine and disease.

    Deepening crisis

    The gravity of the situation in the wider region was underscored by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who condemned a 24 January attack on the Saudi Teaching Hospital in El Fasher, North Darfur.

    At least 70 patients and their relatives were reportedly killed, and dozens more injured.

    “This appalling attack which affected the only functioning hospital in Darfur’s largest city comes after more than 21 months of war have left much of Sudan’s health care system in tatters,” Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said in a statement.

    The Secretary-General reiterated that international humanitarian law mandates the protection of medical facilities and personnel and that the deliberate targeting of such facilities may constitute a war crime.

    He also renewed his call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a sustainable, inclusive political dialogue to end the conflict.

    Echoes of past crimes

    Mr. Khan urged the 15-member Council to recommit to the principles outlined in resolution 1593, adopted 20 years ago, which referred the situation in Darfur to the ICC.

    “We hear those echoes that gave rise to the original referral,” he said, warning that a new generation is suffering the same atrocities endured by their parents.

    The ICC Prosecutor announced that his office is preparing applications for new arrest warrants tied to alleged crimes committed in West Darfur.

    He emphasised that these applications would only proceed with robust evidence to ensure a realistic prospect of conviction, reinforcing the ICC’s commitment to justice for victims.

    Mr. Khan also stressed the need for greater cooperation in transferring ICC fugitives, including former President Omar al-Bashir and other high-ranking officials accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

    Deja vu

    The ICC Prosecutor also painted a grim picture of Darfur’s humanitarian and security landscape.

    The same communities targeted 20 years ago are suffering today, with crimes being used as weapons of war,” Mr. Khan stated, stressing that such acts violate international humanitarian law and demanded an immediate halt to the violence.

    The trial of Ali Kushayb

    Mr. Khan also highlighted the significance of the ICC trial of Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, also known as Ali Kushayb, addressing crimes committed in 2003 and 2004.

    This trial has shown the people of Darfur that they are not forgotten and “not airbrushed out of public consciousness” he said, highlighting the efforts made by Darfuris themselves to ensure justice and accountability.

    Mr. Khan concluded by emphasising the moral and legal responsibility of the international community to deliver justice.

    The people of Darfur are in danger, and they have a right to justice. It is time to deliver on the promise of resolution 1593,” he said.

    “It is time for us collectively to join hands and deliver on that promise to prevent this constant cycle of despair that generations of Darfuris have suffered.”



    The situation in Darfur has been a longstanding humanitarian crisis, with countless atrocities committed against innocent civilians. The International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, has recently called for immediate action to address the ongoing violence and human rights abuses in the region.

    Bensouda has urged the international community to take swift and decisive action to hold those responsible for the atrocities in Darfur accountable. She emphasized the importance of justice for the victims and stressed the need for continued efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.

    The ICC Prosecutor’s plea comes at a critical time, as reports of ongoing violence and human rights abuses continue to emerge from Darfur. It is crucial that the international community comes together to address these atrocities and work towards a lasting solution to the crisis.

    As global citizens, we must stand in solidarity with the people of Darfur and demand justice for the victims of these heinous crimes. It is time for action, and it is time for the perpetrators of these atrocities to be held accountable. Let us heed the call of the ICC Prosecutor and work towards a brighter future for the people of Darfur.

    Musician Billy Corgan and comedian Bill Burr aren’t actual related. But that doesn’t mean they won’t get a kick out of the self-started rumors.

    This past November, Corgan was a guest on the “Howie Mandel Does Stuff” podcast. During the episode, Mandel’s production team accidentally put up a picture of Burr instead of Corgan. The Smashing Pumpkins guitarist/frontman went with it and comprised an elaborate story, considering they could be half brothers.

    “Most of my friends don’t even know this story,” Corgan said. “About 10 years ago, one of my brothers was having a birthday party, and my stepmother was there, who was obviously married to my father. And my stepmother said to me, ‘Do you know who Bill Burr is?’ Now at that point, I had never heard of Bill Burr. I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know he was a comedian or anything. He could have been the guy down the street.”

    Corgan then continued the story, like one of those fables you hear around the campfire at summer camp.

    “I thought the first thing she was going to say was, ‘Oh, I thought you’d notice the resemblance,’” said Corgan. ”She goes, ‘I think it might be one of your father’s illegitimate children. Bill Burr might be one of the children that your father sired in his days being a traveling musician.’ This is a true story. I’m not making this up; there is no joke in this.”

    Mandel had something up his sleeve in his new episode on Tuesday, with Burr now being in the guest chair. Thirty minutes in, Mandel brought out Corgan as a surprise.

    “Did you ever think the fact that I never told that story, that maybe you shouldn’t?” Burr says to Corgan. “It’s not that I don’t like [Corgan], it reminds me of all of that s—.”

    Throughout the rest of the episode, both Corgan and Burr play along with the story — even going as far as trading stories about their “dad.” In the end, Corgan and Burr are siblings in the same way actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson (not at all).

    Mandel quips, “I thought you would be cool with me bringing the family together.” Burr then went on to chastise Corgan for letting the family secret out of the bag.

This prompted Corgan to share a bizarre anecdote involving his stepmother, who had once suggested Burr might be one of his father’s illegitimate children.

    “About 10 years ago, one of my brothers was having a birthday party, and my stepmother was there, who was obviously married to my father. And my stepmother said to me, ‘Do you know who Bill Burr is?,’” Corgan recalled at the time. “Now at that point, I had never heard of Bill Burr; I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know he was a comedian or anything. He could have been the guy down the street.”

    He continued, “She said, ‘Well, he’s this comedian.’ And I think I even somehow called up a picture on the phone, and I kind of noticed right away, ‘Gee, he kind of looks like my father.’ Bill Burr looks more like my father than Bill Burr looks like me or I look like Bill Burr. So I said to my mother, ‘Why are you asking me this?’”

    Fast-forward to January, when Mandel orchestrated a surprise reunion between Corgan and Burr, bringing them together for the first time. Burr greeted the rocker with a casual “What’s up?” before turning to Mandel with mock irritation, quipping, “You’re an a——.” The conversation quickly turned into comedic gold as the two riffed on their supposed familial connection.

    DENVER — Like others across the country, many of Colorado’s political leaders viewed President Donald Trump’s inaugural address through a partisan lens.

    After being sworn into office as the 47th president on Monday, Trump promised to make Americans’ lives better, starting with cracking down on illegal immigration.

    “All illegal entries will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” Trump said.

    Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert said the Trump-Vance administration will put the interests of Coloradans first.

    “After a disastrous four years of suffering through the crime and drugs brought into our communities by an open Southern border, inflation hitting record-highs while ranchers and farmers can barely survive, and a failure to stand up for our nation’s interests as foreign enemies cause chaos, today’s inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance marks the start of a new, magnificent era for America,” Boebert said in a statement.

    “Today’s inauguration was highlighted by the most reinvigorating speech by any President,” State Rep. Ryan Armogost, R-Berthoud, wrote on X. “With a no-nonsense powerful President and majority in our US Capitol and US Supreme Court, we can finally fix the travesties caused by the 12 years of Obama/Biden.”

    The Colorado Democratic Party issued a statement, saying Trump would take the country backward.

    “If this is anything like last time, the rich will get richer while the rest of us struggle to get by,” the statement read. “Colorado Democrats stand ready to fight back against mass deportations, inflationary economics, unqualified nominees, tax cuts for billionaires and corporations, and attacks on our fundamental freedoms.”

    State Rep. Junie Joseph was one of just a handful of Democratic politicians in Colorado to issue a public statement about the inauguration on Monday afternoon.

    “On MLK Day, I was hoping to hear a message of love, unity and compassion, not one of division and hate,” Joseph said. “As a woman and an immigrant, I’m deeply concerned for our children, who could face the devastation of becoming orphans under Trump’s immigration policies. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy by fostering a future of love, inclusion, and justice for all.”

    Fear, uncertainty grow for potential ICE operations in Denver metro area

    University of Denver political science professor Seth Masket said Trump’s pledge to unify the nation with his speech fell short.

    “I thought it was pretty divisive, pretty aggressive. I thought far more so than his first inaugural address [in 2017],” said Masket. “This one, I thought, was a lot more vengeful in its tone.”

    Masket said he expects the courts to play an important role as Trump implements his agenda.

    In addition to working with Congress to implement his agenda, Trump said he would issue executive orders.

    “He’s already said he’s going to essentially get rid of birthright citizenship, which is in the 14th Amendment,” Masket said. “An executive order doesn’t override the 14th Amendment.”

  • What Trump’s inaugural address means for federal employees


    Donald Trump returned to the presidency on Monday with a promise to “immediately restore the integrity, competency and loyalty of America’s government.”

    The president is expected to take many executive actions in the coming days. Some that will affect federal employees include freezing government hiring, as he did in his first term, curtailing remote and hybrid work flexibility for government workers and “improved accountability” for the bureaucracy, which is likely a reference to reinstituting Schedule F

    Earlier Monday, officials detailed plans the president will shortly take directing federal personnel to increase the detention and deportation of migrants in and crossing into the U.S., including sending the military to the southern border. 

    “I will direct our government to use the full and immense power of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate the presence of all foreign gangs and criminal networks bringing devastating crime to U.S. soil, including our cities and inner cities,” he said in his inaugural address. 

    In his speech, Trump also said that he would end the “weaponization of the Justice Department.” On the campaign trail, he regularly complained that former President Joe Biden’s DOJ was prosecuting him, although the cases against Trump were pursued by a special counsel. 

    Shortly before the end of his administration, Biden pardoned certain members of his family

    “My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me — the worst kind of partisan politics,” he said in a statement. “Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end.” 

    While Trump in his address touted the planned establishment of the advisory Department of Government Efficiency to cut bureaucracy and spending, he also proposed creating a new agency. The External Revenue Service, which he first suggested last week, would be responsible for collecting tariffs and duties. 

    “It will be massive amounts of money pouring into our treasury coming from foreign sources,” Trump said. 

    The president also criticized the response to and recovery from Hurricane Helene in the Southeast and Appalachia as well as the southern California wildfires.

  • How not to watch Donald Trump’s second inaugural address


    Donald Trump’s first inaugural address is often referred to by political commentators as the “American Carnage” speech. Instead of presenting an optimistic vision of what he wanted to do as president, Trump used dark (and at time misleading) rhetoric that would set the tone for his first term. 

    That was years before he encouraged his supporters to violently march on the Capitol, the building where he will deliver his address today.

    And even in the days leading up to the inauguration, the Trump team has previewed its priorities for the first couple of days of his term, promising mass deportation raids in major cities, the pardoning of insurrectionists and an executive order allowing career public servants to be fired.

    One moderately controlled speech doesn’t mean Trump is actually planning to put his political grievances aside and govern for all people.

    So the bar for a speech is already embarrassingly low.

    But as Trump prepares to deliver his second inaugural address Monday, we can’t allow his past to lower our own bars of what we should expect from an incoming president.

    And more importantly, one moderately controlled speech doesn’t mean he is actually planning to put his political grievances aside and govern for all people. 

    After all, this is a direct quote from that same “American carnage” address in 2017:

    “The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans. To all Americans, in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, and from ocean to ocean, hear these words. You will never be ignored again. “

    We know that’s not exactly how it worked out.

    During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, as thousands upon thousands died, Trump repeatedly questioned sending aid to blue states and referred to a Covid relief bill submitted by House Democrats as a “big bailout for badly run Democratic cities and states.” He dismissed the deaths of Americans who died in states that didn’t vote his way.

    Trump was similarly dismissive after a series of devastating hurricanes hit Puerto Rico in late 2017. The president reportedly told his staff he didn’t want “a single dollar” going to Puerto Rico. Instead, he wanted more of the money to go to Texas and Florida. The Washington Post reports he even signed an order directing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to pay almost all disaster costs in Florida, a very red state, after having threatened to veto a similar proposal for Puerto Rico.

    Trump also reportedly withheld wildfire assistance for Washington in 2020 after he feuded with the state’s Democratic governor, reports Politico, and initially refused to provide disaster aid for 2018 wildfires in California. 

    And those are just some of many examples. 

    It’s very possible Trump will stand in the middle of the Capitol rotunda Monday and repeat his commitment to represent all Americans, especially those who feel left behind by the government. He will, of course, be delivering that speech in front of some of the world’s elites, including the tech oligarchy posse of Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. The tens of thousands of Trump fans originally expected to watch from the Mall will literally be locked out.

    Maybe Trump won’t talk about his plans for immigration raids in major cities like Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Washington. Maybe he won’t celebrate the “heroism” of the Jan. 6 insurrectionists. And that’s a good thing. 

    But that doesn’t mean immigration raids aren’t imminent. Or that violent rioters won’t soon be rewarded with presidential pardons.

    It’s the job of political pundits to watch and analyze, to listen closely to the words of the president and try to predict their true meaning. But Trump isn’t like other presidents. And so we must resist the urge to grade on a curve. And remember that what he does is infinitely more important than anything he says. 



    As Donald Trump’s second inaugural address approaches, it’s important to approach it with a critical eye and a discerning mind. Here are some tips on how not to watch his address:

    1. Don’t take everything at face value: Trump has a history of making false or misleading statements, so it’s important to fact-check his claims and not automatically believe everything he says.
