  • UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty told Congress earlier this year the breach affected about 100M Americans

UnitedHealth Group says the impact from the cyberattack last year at its Change Healthcare subsidiary is much wider than previously understood, affecting roughly 190 million patients — up from previous estimates of about 100 million people.

With the U.S. population standing at about 341 million people, the breach is now thought to affect about 1 in 2 Americans.

Even before Friday, the incident was by far the largest breach currently showing on the federal website, which doesn’t show a 2015 breach at health insurer Anthem Inc. that affected data for about 79 million patients.

“Change Healthcare has determined the estimated total number of individuals impacted by the Change Healthcare cyberattack is approximately 190 million,“ UnitedHealth Group said in a statement issued Friday afternoon. ”The vast majority of those people have already been provided individual or substitute notice.”

The company added that it “is not aware of any misuse of individuals’ information as a result of this incident and has not seen electronic medical record databases appear in the data during the analysis.”

Eden Prairie-based UnitedHealth Group owns UnitedHealthcare, the nation’s largest health insurer, and a fast-growing division for health services called Optum, which acquired Change Healthcare for $13 billion in 2022.

Change Healthcare was involved in processing a large share of all health care claims and payments in the U.S. — roughly 15 billion health care transactions annually before the hack, affecting 1 in 3 patient records, according to federal officials.

In a shocking revelation earlier this year, UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty disclosed to Congress that a breach had impacted approximately 100 million Americans. This breach not only raised concerns about the security of sensitive personal information but also highlighted the urgent need for stronger data protection measures. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story. #UnitedHealth #DataBreach #AndrewWitty #Congress #SecurityConcerns

  • NFL WAGs: Trolling Hits Hard for NFL WAGs, and Girlfriend of Braxton Berrios Alix Earle Is No Exception—Here’s How It Affected Her and How She Developed Thick Skin Amid Online Criticism | NFL News

Trolling Hits Hard for NFL WAGs, and Girlfriend of Braxton Berrios Alix Earle Is No Exception—Here’s How It Affected Her and How She Developed Thick Skin Amid Online Criticism
    Braxton Berrios/Instagram

Social media can be a tough place, especially when people feel free to judge you based on a single post or video. Alix Earle, girlfriend of Miami Dolphins star Braxton Berrios shared how the first time she saw herself being criticized online, it was a shock to her system. On her Hot Mess podcast, Alix has been refreshingly candid about how she’s learned to take in social media criticism and why she feels she’s developed a “thick skin” over the years.

    Facing the Online Critics

No doubt that the limelight attracts its fair share of trolls. From interviews to random clips that pop up online, Alix has had her share of hurtful comments.
“I do an interview or someone else posts a video of me or a clip of me and like reading for the first time, people being like, ‘she’s so mid or she’s so this or she’s so that’. I was like ‘oh my God. oh my God’. And then I’m realizing like I don’t need to be, like I never claimed.”
She went on to explain how social media forced her to build a tougher exterior, learning to ignore the negativity.
“That’s what gets in your head because I’m like, ‘wait was I supposed to be like Margot fu***ng Robbie. I’m literally this normal girl from New Jersey. I mean social media is like a whole another piece. It has taught me to definitely have thick skin that’s for sure.”

    Braxton Berrios: Her Rock

In addition to learning to brush off the trolls, Alix talked about how much she values Braxton’s supportive and protective nature.
“I’d say Braxton’s very very protective but he’s not jealous because he knows that he has me and he knows that I’m not going anywhere. I’m not turning my head for anyone. So like he might feel that sense of security with you. So he’s not jealous and that’s great.”

Hot Mess Hotline: I’m Still in Love with My Ex! | Hot Mess with Alix Earle

Alix Earle’s conversation on social media trolling and her personal journey of building thick skin is quite inspiring. She has shown how, although it may be difficult to deal with online negativity, staying true to oneself and depending on a great partner like Braxton helps.
Her message to her fans? Be kind to yourself, embrace who you are, and don’t let the trolls get to you.

In the world of the NFL, wives and girlfriends of players (WAGs) often find themselves the target of online trolling and criticism. Unfortunately, Alix Earle, the girlfriend of NFL player Braxton Berrios, is no exception to this trend. Despite facing harsh comments and negativity online, Earle has developed thick skin and learned how to handle the criticism with grace.

The scrutiny began when Earle first started dating Berrios, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins. As their relationship became public, Earle found herself the subject of judgment and criticism from fans and online trolls. From her appearance to her personality, nothing seemed off-limits for those looking to tear her down.

Instead of letting the negativity get to her, Earle chose to rise above it and focus on her own happiness and well-being. She realized that the opinions of strangers on the internet were not a reflection of her worth or value as a person. With the support of Berrios and her loved ones, she was able to build up her self-confidence and develop a thick skin to deflect the hurtful comments.

Through it all, Earle has remained strong and resilient in the face of online trolling. She has learned to brush off the negativity and focus on the positive aspects of her life and relationship with Berrios. By choosing to prioritize her own mental health and well-being, she has been able to navigate the challenges of being an NFL WAG with grace and resilience.

In the world of professional sports, trolling and online criticism are unfortunately all too common. However, Alix Earle’s story serves as a reminder that it is possible to develop thick skin and rise above the negativity. By focusing on self-love and surrounding oneself with supportive people, anyone can weather the storm of online criticism and emerge stronger on the other side.

  • ‘The Apprentice’ Star Maria Bakalova Didn’t Stay in Character as Ivana Trump Off the Set: ‘That Could Have Affected My Mental Health’

The Iron Curtain had already collapsed when Maria Bakalova was growing up in Bulgaria, but old sensibilities still lingered: as a girl she was discouraged from playing the “aggressive and muscular” electric guitar (she learned the flute instead) and life there was still largely circumscribed by national borders.

But Bakalova, who portrays the Czech-born Ivana Trump in “The Apprentice,” found avenues for expansion, in part, as a way of rebelling. “It didn’t feel right to be put in a box because of your gender,” says Bakalova, who burst on the scene with her Oscar-nominated performance in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.” “Knowing I didn’t get a chance to pursue something had some impact on my development and maybe made me stronger and a bit more daring.”

Bakalova’s first path out was singing, and by age 11, she was traveling throughout Western Europe to competitions, much as Ivana Trump had gotten out via national ski teams.

In a recent interview, “The Apprentice” star Maria Bakalova opened up about the challenges of playing the role of Ivana Trump on the hit reality show. Bakalova revealed that she struggled to stay in character off the set, and that it took a toll on her mental health.

“Ivana Trump is such a larger-than-life character, and it was difficult for me to switch off and be myself when the cameras weren’t rolling,” Bakalova said. “I found myself slipping into her persona in everyday life, and it started to affect my mental health.”

Bakalova went on to explain that she sought therapy to help her navigate the challenges of playing such a demanding role. “I realized that I needed to set boundaries between myself and the character I was portraying,” she said. “I needed to prioritize my own mental health and well-being.”

Despite the difficulties she faced, Bakalova is proud of the work she did on “The Apprentice” and the impact it had on her career. “Playing Ivana Trump was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I learned so much from the experience,” she said. “But it’s important to remember that at the end of the day, I am not just a character – I am Maria Bakalova, and I need to take care of myself.”

Bakalova’s honesty and vulnerability in sharing her struggles serve as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health, even in the midst of pursuing our dreams.

  • Pittsburgh-area businesses are affected by surge in bird flu cases

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Eggs are up – and we’re not talking “sunny-side.” There’s an egg shortage going on due in part to bird flu.

The consumer price index shows an average 65 percent increase year-over-year for December – that’s for a dozen large Grade A eggs.

Places like Ma and Pop’s Country Kitchen in Bethel Park are feeling that increase.

“We go through anywhere from 12 to 15 cases a week,” said Steve Diethorn, co-owner of Ma and Pop’s Country Kitchen.

Eggs are used in things like omelettes and French toast, and they’re not cheap.

“They’re up to anywhere from $80. Last week one of my vendors said $105 for a case, 15 dozen.”

Diethorn says he usually pays anywhere from $27 to $33 for that. His suppliers say the supply is not guaranteed.

“It’s very concerning for us,” said Diethorn.

His customers are having trouble finding them too.

“A lot of people come in here and say they can’t get them at the grocery store unless they get them when the truck comes,” said Diethorn.

It’s a similar problem at Billie Ann’s Diner in Cecil.

“If you wanna get rich, you don’t buy a restaurant,” said Billie Ann Graham, owner of Billie Ann’s Diner.

There was a new shipment on Thursday, and it was not cheap.

“In March we were using eggs,” said an employee at Billie Ann’s. “Eggs were under $20 a case and now they’re $88.87 a case.”

Both places go through many cases a week. They’re trying to avoid price spikes.

“If we raise our prices too much, people aren’t gonna come in,” said Diethorn.

But the main goal? As small businesses, it’s just to endure.

“You gotta do what you gotta do to survive,” said Graham.

The recent surge in bird flu cases has taken a toll on Pittsburgh-area businesses, particularly those in the poultry industry. As the highly contagious virus continues to spread, many farms and suppliers are facing significant challenges in maintaining their operations.

Poultry farms have been hit hard by the outbreak, with many reporting high mortality rates among their flocks. This has led to a decrease in supply and an increase in prices for poultry products, putting strain on businesses that rely on these goods for their operations.

In addition to poultry farms, other businesses in the Pittsburgh area that rely on poultry products are also feeling the impact of the bird flu outbreak. Restaurants, grocery stores, and food manufacturers are all facing disruptions in their supply chains, leading to potential shortages and increased costs.

The surge in bird flu cases has highlighted the vulnerability of businesses in the poultry industry to such outbreaks. It serves as a reminder of the importance of biosecurity measures and preparedness in order to mitigate the impact of future outbreaks.

As the situation continues to evolve, it is crucial for Pittsburgh-area businesses to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect their operations and ensure the safety of their employees and customers. By working together and implementing best practices, businesses can navigate these challenging times and emerge stronger on the other side.

  • What we know about L.A.-area fires, what caused them, who is affected and more

Fueled by powerful winds and dry conditions, a series of ferocious wildfires erupted last week and roared across the Los Angeles area, killing at least 27 people, including some who died trying to prevent the fires from engulfing their homes, and destroying thousands of structures.

A Los Angeles County fire official said an untold number of significant injuries were linked to two of the fires, and a city official in Los Angeles described the night of Jan. 7 as “one of the most devastating and terrifying” that she had seen in her corner of the city.

Here’s what we know about the fires.

    Where are the fires?

The Palisades Fire erupted the morning of Jan. 7 in Pacific Palisades, a Los Angeles neighborhood east of Malibu, as a brush fire. The blaze, which had grown to 23,713 acres, was 49% contained by Saturday night, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal Fire. Cal Fire said the fire likely damaged or destroyed more than 5,000 structures.

The Eaton Fire ignited hours after the Palisades Fire near a canyon in the sprawling national forest lands north of downtown Los Angeles. It had exploded to 14,117 acres and was 73 % contained by Saturday night, according to Cal Fire. The agency has reported more than 10,300 structures as being confirmed damaged or destroyed in the blaze.

As firefighters were battling the largest blazes, additional fires broke out in the Los Angeles area. Crews were able to stop the forward spread and contain the blazes.

As of Friday night, the Lidia, Archer, Woodley, Sunset, Kenneth, Hurst and Auto fires were 100% contained and no longer considered active, according to Cal Fire. Between them, the fires scorched 2,399 acres.

Have there been deaths and injuries?

As of Thursday afternoon, at least 27 people had died in the fires, according to Los Angeles County officials.

The county medical examiner’s office is still investigating many of the deaths. The department noted that it cannot confirm human remains until it processes them at its facility.

At least 17 of the deaths were in the Eaton Fire and 10 in the Palisades Fire, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner’s office said it could take weeks to confirm the identities of those killed.

Officials have warned that the death toll could grow.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said a significant number of people who did not heed evacuation orders have been injured in the Palisades Fire. He also said there have been significant injuries in the Eaton Fire.

    How many people are affected?

At one point there were close to 200,000 people under evacuation orders as crews tried to battle back the fires. By Tuesday morning the number had dwindled to around 88,000 with another 84,800 in evacuation warning zones throughout Los Angeles County.

On Thursday, officials announced limited repopulation for some areas evacuated amid the Palisades and Eaton fires.

The fires have destroyed entire neighborhoods and blocks, leaving an unknown number of people homeless.

How much damage have the fires done?

The insured losses from last week’s fires may exceed $20 billion, and total economic losses could reach $50 billion, according to estimates published by JPMorgan on Thursday.

Those losses would far exceed the $12.5 billion in insured damages from the 2018 Camp Fire, which until now was the costliest blaze in the country’s history, according to data from Aon.

    What led to the fires?

The official cause of the fires has not been determined.

The combination of drought-like conditions — Southern California has had less than 10% of average rainfall since Oct. 1 — and powerful offshore winds that hit the region last week prompted fire weather that was, in the words of the National Weather Service, “about as bad as it gets.”

The agency issued a red flag warning — indicating an increased risk for fire danger — to 19 million people. Wind gusts topping 70 mph were recorded at several locations across the region.

Climate scientist Daniel Swain pointed to the weather whiplash California has experienced in recent years — lurching between drought and heavy rainfall — and said such swings are a key element of the fire weather gripping the region.

“It’s not just that drier conditions are perpetually more likely in a warming climate,” he said, according Inside Climate News. “It’s that this oscillation back and forth between states is something that is particularly consequential for wildfire risk in Southern California.”

    More coverage of the wildfires

The recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area have caused widespread devastation and displacement for many residents. Here is what we know so far about the fires, including their causes, impact, and ongoing efforts to contain them.

    Causes of the Fires:
    – The fires were sparked by a combination of factors, including high temperatures, strong winds, and dry vegetation. Some of the fires were also believed to have been started by human activity, such as discarded cigarettes or campfires.

    Impact on Residents:
    – Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes as the fires spread rapidly through the area. Many have lost their homes and belongings, while others are facing uncertainty about when they will be able to return.

    Efforts to Contain the Fires:
    – Firefighters have been working tirelessly to contain the fires, but the difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions have made their efforts challenging. Helicopters and air tankers have been deployed to drop water and fire retardant in an attempt to slow the spread of the flames.

    Who is Affected:
    – The fires have affected a wide range of communities in the Los Angeles area, from affluent neighborhoods to rural areas. Those who have been evacuated are staying in shelters or with friends and family, while others are anxiously watching the news for updates on the fire’s progress.

What You Can Do to Help:
    – If you are able, consider donating to local relief organizations or volunteering to assist with evacuation efforts. You can also support firefighters by following evacuation orders and staying out of their way as they work to contain the fires.

As the fires continue to burn, it is important to stay informed and prepared for any potential evacuations. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the wildfires in the Los Angeles area, and we hope for a swift and safe resolution to this devastating situation.

  • Zach Edey’s recent struggles affected his Kia Rookie Ladder ranking

Zach Edey’s usage rate and minutes have gone down since he returned from a two-game absence from Concussion Protocol. Before missing those two games, Edey had back-to-back games with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and two blocks against the Toronto Raptors, and 16 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks against the New Orleans Pelicans.

He hasn’t had a double-figure scoring or rebounding game in any of the six games (five starts) he has played since returning from the injury. Some of that can be tied to usage, as he has only had one double-digit shot attempt game in the last six. Also, his early season foul troubles returned in two of his last three games including fouling out of their recent loss to the Houston Rockets.

Despite the struggles from Edey in the Grizzlies’ last six games, his fall from grace isn’t steep as he remains firmly in the Rookie of the Year race.

Zach Edey remains in the top 5

The NBA.com Kia Rookie Ladder only dropped Zach Edey one spot from four to five in this week’s edition, below San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle. His struggles are apparent but after two battles with the Houston Rockets and former Grizzlies center Steven Adams, Edey’s game isn’t a concern to the former starting center.

Zach Edey committed a total of 11 fouls in their two games against the Rockets while only totaling six points and 10 rebounds combined in the two games. However, Steven Adams had praise for the rookie stating he has really good potential and that he has to learn the NBA game.

FanDuel Sportsbook betting odds believe the same thing as Edey only fell to second in Rookie of the Year odds (+350) below Kia Rookie Ladder’s back-to-back number ranking Washington Wizards forward Alexandre Sarr (+150).

Where is Jaylen Wells ranked this week?

Although Zach Edey fell in the new Rookie Ladder rankings and FanDuel Sportsbook odds, Jaylen Wells has remained in the third place ranking in this week’s edition. He also rose one spot in the betting odds from fourth to third place (+500) jumping New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi (+800), who fell to fifth behind Stephon Castle (+700).

Wells’ shot has continued to fail him recently, as he shot only 38% from the field over the last week, but his defense has allowed him to garner some clutch minutes with the Grizzlies. Their last three games have come down to clutch situations and Wells has been tasked with defending the best scorer on the other team to finish.

He succeeded against the Minnesota Timberwolves, holding Anthony Edwards to 15 points on 4-13 shooting. Houston’s Jalen Green was a different beast as he scored 42 points, including the go-ahead bucket, with under one minute to play on Monday night against the Grizzlies.

Jaylen Wells continues to be one of the surprising and best rookies in the NBA this season on both ends of the court. While the Grizzlies continue their search for a veteran wing to help their championship status this season, Wells figures to be a part of the rotation regardless of what move the Grizzlies can make or not make.

Zach Edey, the 7-foot-4 center for the Purdue Boilermakers, has been making headlines this season with his dominant performances on the court. However, his recent struggles have caused him to slip in the Kia Rookie Ladder rankings.

Edey’s size and skillset have made him a force to be reckoned with in the paint, but in recent games, he has been facing tougher competition and struggling to maintain his high level of play. This has led to a decrease in his statistics and overall impact on the game, resulting in a drop in his ranking on the Kia Rookie Ladder.

Despite these setbacks, Edey is determined to bounce back and prove that he is capable of competing at the highest level. With his work ethic and determination, there is no doubt that he will overcome these challenges and continue to impress as the season progresses.

Fans and analysts alike are eagerly waiting to see how Edey responds to this adversity and if he can climb back up the Kia Rookie Ladder rankings. Stay tuned to see how this talented young player navigates through his recent struggles and works towards reaching his full potential in the NBA.

  • Gayle Benson’s donation to Greater New Orleans Foundation’s disaster relief fund will provide vital assistance to those affected by terrorist attack

Gayle Benson’s donation to Greater New Orleans Foundation’s disaster relief fund will provide vital assistance to those affected by terrorist attack

After a hurricane unleashed its damage on Louisiana in early July 2024, proactive thought was that inevitably, disaster again would strike New Orleans and the metro area, and that those affected would require speedy assistance.

That largely explains why New Orleans Saints owner/New Orleans Pelicans governor Gayle Benson made a $1.25 million donation to the Greater New Orleans Foundation in mid-July 2024, which became the Gayle and Tom Benson Disaster Relief Fund.

The horrifying jolt that the first disaster requiring assistance afterward would be a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street, during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day 2025, amplified the fact that almost immediately the GNOF was prepared to assist those who were most affected by the attack.

“In the wake of the tragic events on Bourbon Street this New Year’s, we are fully committed to supporting the victims and their families,” Gayle Benson said. “Through the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s disaster relief fund, we will provide vital assistance to those affected, ensuring they have the resources they need during this challenging time.

“It is our collective responsibility to support our community in times of hardship, and I will continue to stand with New Orleans as we heal together.”

Fourteen people were killed and dozens more injured as the driver, Shamsud Din Jabbar, ran them down in a truck before being killed after exchanging gunfire with police.

“Because of Mrs. Benson’s gift, we will not have to scramble so much to get started when disaster strikes,” Andy Kopplin, the president and CEO of the GNOF, said during the donation announcement in July. The GNOF serves the 13-parish region of metro New Orleans.

“We will be ready to make those first grants to get our response and recovery going, and to get the additional fund-raising started,” Kopplin said.

Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, has made a generous donation to the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s disaster relief fund to support those affected by the recent terrorist attack in the city.

Her donation will provide vital assistance to those who have been impacted by this tragic event, helping them rebuild their lives and communities in the wake of this senseless act of violence.

We applaud Gayle Benson for her commitment to helping those in need during this difficult time and thank her for her generosity in supporting the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s relief efforts. Together, we can stand strong and support one another in the face of adversity. #NewOrleansStrong #SupportOurCommunity.
