BYU stymies Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter in Alamo Bowl victory over Colorado

L.J. Martin rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns, Jake Retzlaff passed for 151 yards, and BYU beat Colorado 36-14 in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night.

BYU (11-2, No. 17 CFP) scored in every quarter in rolling to its second straight bowl victory and third in its past four appearances after failing to advance last season.

Colorado (9-4, No. 23 CFP) was held to 210 total yards with only 2 net yards rushing. The Buffaloes had 90 yards in the fourth quarter with the Cougars leading by 29 points.

Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was sacked three times and threw two interceptions before a sellout crowd of 64,261. Sanders passed for 208 yards and two touchdowns while completing 16 of 23 passes.

Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter had four receptions for 106 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown from Sanders with 6:14 remaining in the third quarter.

Colorado’s offensive struggles started early against BYU.

The Buffaloes failed to convert on fourth-and-1 at the Cougars’ 49-yard line when Sanders’ pass to Will Sheppard fell incomplete.

BYU then marched 52 yards for its first touchdown on a 1-yard run by Martin with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Cougars sophomore Parker Kingston returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown to put BYU up 17-0 with 5:32 remaining in the first half.

The Buffaloes were shut out in the first half while being limited to 61 total yards, including minus-9 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Sione I Moa added a 13-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter for the Cougars.

Will Ferrin added field goals of 51 and 54 yards for BYU.

Kingston returned three punts for 82 yards, including the first-half touchdown. He also had one reception for 24 yards and threw an incompletion that tipped off the fingers of tight end Mata’ava Ta’ase.

The Buffaloes entered the game averaging 34.5 points per game, which was 22nd in the nation, but struggled against the Cougars.

BYU Defense Shines in Alamo Bowl Win over Colorado, Stymies Top Recruits Sanders and Hunter

The BYU Cougars put on a defensive clinic in their Alamo Bowl victory over the Colorado Buffaloes, shutting down top recruits Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in a dominant performance.

Led by a relentless pass rush and suffocating coverage in the secondary, BYU held Sanders and Hunter in check throughout the game, limiting their impact on the field. Sanders, a highly-touted quarterback prospect, was unable to find his rhythm against the Cougars’ defense, completing just 15 of 30 passes for 180 yards and two interceptions.

Meanwhile, Hunter, one of the top wide receiver recruits in the country, was held to just three receptions for 32 yards, as the BYU secondary blanketed him all game long.

The Cougars’ defensive effort was a key factor in their 31-14 victory over Colorado, as they forced three turnovers and held the Buffaloes to just 287 total yards of offense.

BYU’s performance against two of the top recruits in the country sends a strong message to the college football world that they are a team to be reckoned with, both now and in the future.

BYU football disrespected? Fans weigh in on Alamo Bowl broadcast – Deseret News

BYU dominated Colorado in Saturday’s Alamo Bowl, but you might not have known it if you listened to the ABC broadcast team of Dave Pasch and Dusty Dvoracek without checking the score.

At least that was the narrative that emerged on social media Saturday night as the game unfolded.

BYU fans complained that Pasch and Dvoracek saved all their praise for Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders and the rest of the Buffaloes and barely had anything to say about the Cougars.

Special Collector’s Issue: “1984: The Year BYU was Second to None”

Get an inclusive look inside BYU Football’s 1984 National Championship season.

“.@DavePasch who is Colorado playing tonight?” posted Joe Wheat, a BYU fan and host of “The Hype Train” podcast, on X.

“Announcers have to run out of Colorado content soon right?” wrote the people behind the X account CougsinthePros.

There was so much commentary on social media about Pasch and Dvoracek’s performance that the blog Awful Announcing dedicated a post to the controversy.

While the Awful Announcing crew didn’t entirely side with BYU fans, they agreed that the announcers had a lot to say about Hunter and Sanders.

“Pasch and Dvoracek are two of ESPN’s top announcers, but even the best can find themselves in the crosshairs of fan angst when expectations don’t quite match up with the broadcast reality. And the broadcast reality on Saturday was to talk about Colorado — a lot,” the article said.

The Awful Announcing story was among the most popular posts on the CFB subreddit for much of Sunday, as college football fans — many with no ties to BYU or Colorado — weighed in on the debate.

Fans of other schools generally agreed that the commentators should have had more to say about BYU and been more responsive to what was actually happening on the field.

“These guys convinced themselves that Colorado was a national darling and that only a loser would be watching their game for the other team,” a Florida State fan wrote on Reddit.

A Wisconsin fan argued, “It was really bad last night, and when BYU was way up they kept showing Deion on the sidelines for what seemed like minutes and just constantly talking about Travis Hunter and Shedeur.”

The college football fans on Reddit said the problem isn’t unique to the BYU-Colorado game and has become a fixture of bowl season.

“This whole bowl season the blatant favoritism and forced narratives by the announcing teams has been absolutely horrible. It’s made watching the games a real pain,” an Ohio State fan wrote on Reddit, noting that one factor involved could be that broadcasters like ESPN are spread thin prepping for so many bowls at once.

BYU football disrespected? Fans weigh in on Alamo Bowl broadcast – Deseret News

After BYU’s disappointing loss to Oregon in the Alamo Bowl, many fans are expressing frustration over what they perceive as disrespect towards the team during the broadcast of the game. From biased commentary to questionable officiating calls, BYU supporters are voicing their concerns about how the Cougars were portrayed on national television.

Some fans took issue with the announcers seemingly favoring Oregon throughout the game, with little acknowledgment of BYU’s accomplishments and strengths. Others pointed out instances where calls by the referees appeared to go against the Cougars, leading to missed opportunities and a sense of unfairness.

Despite these grievances, some fans are choosing to focus on the positives of the season and the team’s overall performance. They believe that BYU proved themselves as a formidable opponent and should be proud of their accomplishments, regardless of any perceived disrespect during the broadcast.

CU stars Sanders and Hunter playing in Alamo Bowl with record insurance coverage

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Colorado secured what it said was record insurance coverage for quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter as the star duo opted to complete their college careers in the Alamo Bowl rather than sit out and prepare for the NFL draft.

Colorado wouldn’t disclose the amount of insurance coverage each received, citing privacy laws. Coach Deion Sanders and athletic director Rick George both said it was the largest in college football history.

While college programs maintain insurance policies for their athletes in case of injury, Colorado increased disability coverage for its entire roster in the Alamo Bowl.

“We’re excited about it,” George said Monday. “We think it’s great that all of our players are playing in the game, and that’s what all bowl games should be like.”

Sanders ensured his QB son and two-way star Hunter received larger policies since both are expected to be among the top 10 selections in the NFL draft.

“W happen to have two players that are probably going to be the first two picks of the NFL Draft. I think we all know who those two are,” Sanders said Monday. “And they have received, I think, the highest number of coverage that has ever been covered in college football that far exceeds anyone has ever played this game of college football. So we’re happy and excited, but that’s a just wonderful thought process for this wonderful university that we that we are attending, and we’re just thankful that Rick, as well as administration at CU, has put his money where his mouth is.”

Clemson University stars Trevor Lawrence and Justyn Ross will be playing in the Alamo Bowl this year, with a record insurance coverage policy in place to protect their future earnings potential.

Both Lawrence and Ross are projected to be high draft picks in the upcoming NFL draft, and the insurance policy will ensure that they are financially protected in case of any career-ending injuries during the bowl game.

The Alamo Bowl has become known for attracting top talent from across the country, and this year’s matchup between Clemson and their opponent promises to be a thrilling game.

Fans can tune in to watch Lawrence and Ross showcase their skills on the field, knowing that they are covered by a comprehensive insurance policy that will safeguard their future earnings and financial security.

  • For Deion Sanders and his sons at Colorado, Alamo Bowl loss provides bittersweet ending

For Deion Sanders and his sons at Colorado, Alamo Bowl loss provides bittersweet ending

SAN ANTONIO — As much as anyone in the sport, Deion Sanders has been the face of college football the past two years as it hurtled into a new era of portal and Playoff, of NIL and evolution.

From taking over a 1-11 left-for-dead Colorado program to proving so many skeptics wrong to developing a Heisman Trophy winner to transforming Colorado into must-see TV that became not only a ratings machine, but also a Top 25 team, Coach Prime has been like nothing this sport has ever seen — with his own camera crews documenting every moment along the way. And yet, a few minutes before kickoff of Saturday night’s Alamo Bowl loss to BYU, we saw him like we’ve never seen him before.

    Speechless.

Deion Sanders, with his sunglasses on, headset around his neck and head bowed, was overcome with emotion as all the memories poured in from years of coaching sons Shilo and Shedeur, from pee-wee football to Jackson State to resurrecting Colorado. He had just walked onto the field with his sons, as he has done countless other times, but it never felt like this.

On camera, ESPN reporter Taylor McGregor asked what was bringing up the emotions. The 57-year-old choked up for a few heartbeats.

“The journey,” he said. “It’s been a tremendous, tumultuous journey.”

Sanders knew this moment was coming. He conceded a day earlier that he’d been trying to shy from this reality. It seeped into his mind before his sons’ last home game at Colorado, but that wasn’t their last college game together.

    GO DEEPER

Travis Hunter is the Heisman Trophy winner who wasn’t afraid to be different

What made it even harder was that it wasn’t just Shilo and Shedeur — it was his other “sons” too. It was Travis Hunter, the two-way player and Heisman winner who shocked the college football establishment as the nation’s No. 1 recruit by decommitting from Florida State to follow Sanders to Jackson State. And it was Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, the heartbeat of the Buffaloes defense who had played for him when he was the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian High School in Texas when Shedeur was the QB. Silmon-Craig had decommitted from FAU to follow Sanders to Jackson State.

“I got upset with Shedeur yesterday,” Sanders said Friday with a grin. “I told him we have 48 hours, son, then all this is over.

“It’s going to be something to behold. I don’t know how I’m going to handle it. I know Travis is going to trigger me because he always does. He’s going to bring tears up my eyes. I don’t look forward to it, but I do because that means they’re going to another level, another chapter of life, and they’re going to soar. I’m thankful that I feel we’ve equipped them with all the tools necessary to be successful.”

It has been hard for Sanders not to get nostalgic. He had a legendary career as one of the most exciting players the sport has ever seen. He’s won two Super Bowls and made the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He also played Major League Baseball and once hit over .500 in a World Series for the Atlanta Braves, doing so while playing with a broken bone in his foot. But it feels like this hits differently for him.

“This is a tremendous calling that God placed in my life to be around these kids, raise these kids to such a level as this,” Sanders said Friday. “When you think about your steps being ordered, I’m thankful. I’m thankful that (Colorado athletic director) Rick (George) gave me the opportunity. We wouldn’t have had a Heisman Trophy winner. Several other guys are definitely going to get drafted. It wouldn’t have happened if I wouldn’t have accepted that calling. So I’m thankful with the opportunities afforded to me. I’m thankful to be here, period. Man, this is a blessing. I don’t take any moment for granted.”

Sanders, who has insisted he plans to stay at Colorado after his sons are gone, continued in a stream of consciousness as he opened up about what he was feeling, talking about his bond with many of the other players who bought into his vision to join him along the way at CU.

“We’ve all had moments in my office or on the field that could bring you to tears if you really knew those moments,” he said. “Cam Silmon, who has been playing for me since he was a sophomore during high school.”

On Saturday night, about a half hour after Colorado had been overwhelmed by underdog BYU 36-14, it was Silmon-Craig who sat to Sanders’ right, with Shedeur to his dad’s left in the news conference after a game where almost everything went wrong for the Buffs.

Silmon-Craig isn’t the showstopper in the secondary. That, of course, is Hunter. But if you ask several coaches who their favorite player on this Colorado team is, the former two-star recruit ranked as the No. 212 safety in the Class of 2021 is their answer.

He was also the guy who the Colorado staff knew would say all the right things to his teammates when they needed it most, after the Buffs lost at home to Kansas State in mid-October, when the coaches knew the next six weeks would define this team. And he did say all the right things. They went on to win the next four games and five of their next six en route to finishing 9-4.

“He’s everything you want in college football,” defensive coordinator Robert Livingston told me, raving about Silmon-Craig’s toughness and character. “He’s phenomenal.”

Silmon-Craig, who had six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and an interception Saturday, smiled when asked about how he’ll remember his time helping to get the Buffaloes turned around.

“I’ll think about the work, about the brotherhood that we built,” Silmon-Craig said. “I love those guys in that locker room with all my heart. They mean a lot to me.”

Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback who is projected to be a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft with Hunter, said for him the reality that this was the last game playing for his dad at Colorado with his big extended family hasn’t kicked in yet. Maybe it will in the next week or two when they’re not all together.

“I’ll be able to go back and think about those times,” he said.

But there is great pride for him in what they’ve accomplished in Boulder.

“It felt great representing Colorado and bringing (the program) back to where it was in the past,” he said. “I feel like we were able to re-lay the foundation of the program, so now it’s able for the other players coming in to pick up where we left off.”

Saturday’s lopsided loss is not how anyone in the locker room, least of all Deion Sanders, thought this night would go. But Sanders said one rough night even in their last game together won’t overshadow or diminish all that they’ve accomplished in their journey over the past two years.

“It won’t,” he said. “That’s a wrap. It’s over. They are on to the next. They’re gonna have tremendous careers. They’re gonna move on. They’ll flush it. They may analyze it on the way home. I know Cam is gonna think about it, and think about plays that he made and plays that he didn’t make. They’ll flush this and then relax a little bit to get their bodies back right for preparation for combines and pro days, and Cam’s gonna play in the East-West (Shrine) Game, so he has to stay focused for that as well.”

Deion Sanders went from NFL star to successful college coach. Did his teammates see it coming?

One of the last questions Sanders was asked was about his program leaving a footprint on college football in terms of how schools recruit, market and display themselves and what that meant to him in terms of legacy.

“I don’t think we consider that at all,” he said. “We really don’t care. We’re just trying to develop these young men, win games, make sure they’re consistent men in the community with their relationships, with their families and in school. Trust me, we don’t think about it like that.”

His answer to that question reminded me of something he had said the day before, when his perspective sounded so much like parenting, not just coaching.

“It’s unfortunate that they’re moving on, but you pray that you poured into them enough that when they move on, they move up,” he said. “They’re not just passing by. They move on and they move up. You’ve blessed them with knowledge and support and love and compassion in those moments. The most vital moments aren’t even about the field. It’s about what transpires in life that you’re able to be there for them.

“Those are the things that I passionately adore with many of our seniors, that I can’t wait to see them soar.”

The Alamo Bowl loss for Deion Sanders and his sons at Colorado was a bittersweet ending to their season. Despite the disappointment of falling short in the game, the Sanders family can still take pride in the accomplishments and growth they have experienced throughout the year. The bond between father and sons has surely been strengthened through their shared experiences on and off the field. As they reflect on this season, they can hold their heads high knowing they gave it their all and have plenty to look forward to in the future. Cheers to the Sanders family and their resilience in the face of defeat.

BYU made the final game of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders’ Colorado careers one to forget.

The No. 17 Cougars blew out the No. 23 Buffaloes 36-14 in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night as Colorado was overmatched in nearly every facet of the game.

BYU (11-2) led 20-0 at halftime as many of the flaws that had plagued Colorado through the first two years of Deion Sanders’ tenure reared their ugly heads. The Buffs (9-4) couldn’t get a running game going and the offensive line struggled in pass protection too. After BYU led 10-0 in the first quarter, the Cougars extended their lead when Parker Kingston returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

The blowout happened even as BYU QB Jake Retzlaff threw two interceptions and backup Gerry Bohanon threw one in his only pass attempt.

Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, got his highlight with a 43-yard TD in the third quarter on a nicely-placed pass from Sanders. But that was about all that went right for the Buffaloes.

Both Hunter and Sanders played for Colorado despite likely being early first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Colorado took out insurance policies for Sanders, Hunter and others ahead of the game in the event of an injury.

Sanders even unveiled cleats with the New York Giants logo on them before the game — the Giants have the worst record in the NFL and currently are in position for the No. 1 pick in the draft — but took the field in the first quarter with black cleats on his feet.

The game was a matchup between the two Big 12 teams because of the Alamo Bowl’s selection process. The bowl has traditionally pitted teams from the Big 12 and Pac-12 together, but the Pac-12 dissolved before the 2024 season with just Washington State and Oregon State remaining as members of the conference.

Before the season, the Alamo Bowl said that it’d pick a team that was in the Pac-12 in 2023 and a team that was in the Big 12 in 2023. With Arizona State and Oregon in the College Football Playoff and other former Pac-12 teams not having spectacular seasons, the bowl announced before the end of the 2024 season that it’d take either Arizona State and Colorado against either BYU or Iowa State based on the outcome of the Big 12 title game.

Though it was a game between current Big 12 teams, BYU and Colorado didn’t meet in the regular season. The two teams found themselves on the wrong end of a four-way tie for first with ASU and ISU and therefore missed a chance to play for the conference title and a shot at the College Football Playoff.

The win gives BYU 11 wins for the first time since 2020 and the first time in a non-pandemic season since 2009. Colorado, meanwhile, made a five-win leap in 2024 and looks to sustain that success in 2025 despite the losses of Sanders and Hunter. The Buffaloes have gotten a commitment from five-star QB JuJu Lewis and also added former Liberty QB Kaidon Salter in the transfer portal.

The BYU Cougars delivered a dominant performance in the Alamo Bowl, blowing out the Colorado Buffaloes in what turned out to be the final game for star players Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.

BYU, led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, put on a show on both sides of the ball. Sanders threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, while Hunter racked up over 150 yards receiving and two touchdowns of his own.

The Cougars’ defense was equally impressive, holding the Buffaloes to just 10 points and forcing multiple turnovers throughout the game.

For Hunter and Sanders, this game marked the end of their college careers as they prepare to enter the NFL draft. Both players made a huge impact on the BYU program during their time there, and their leadership will be sorely missed.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Cougars celebrated their decisive victory and sent Hunter and Sanders off with a memorable win in their last game in a BYU uniform.

Jimmy Horn injury update: Colorado WR describes his health status entering Alamo Bowl

Colorado wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. suffered a lower-body injury in the Buffaloes’ Week 11 win over Texas Tech and hasn’t played since. In the week leading up to Colorado’s showdown against BYU in the Alamo Bowl, Horn provided an update on his status.

“I’ve been feeling pretty good,” Horn said. “The way I got through it, I go to treatment every day, you know. Just got to show up and get the treatment for my body, so I can go out there and perform.”

Horn’s presence would be a massive addition for Colorado. Before suffering the Week 11 injury, Horn amassed 33 catches for 434 yards and a touchdown. Horn boasts blazing speed and the ability to explode any given gameday.

He showed off this talent in Colorado’s Week 1 win over North Dakota State when he erupted for 198 receiving yards and a touchdown. Horn discussed what it would mean for him to have another monstrous performance in Colorado’s final game of the season.

“It would mean a lot. I want everybody to have a great performance,” Horn said. “You don’t want to finish your last game just wishing should have, could have, you know what I’m saying? Just want to finish out strong with a great performance.”

Horn hasn’t taken his time at Colorado for granted. He began his collegiate career at USF, where he spent two seasons, amassing 23 appearances. Ahead of the 2023 season, Horn transferred to Colorado. Since joining the program, Horn has built a special bond with head coach Deion Sanders.

“Jimmy’s gonna give you every darn thing he has and with the burden that he has on his shoulders; I mean, Jimmy’s playing for pop, man,” Sanders said earlier this year after Colorado’s win over NDSU. “Jimmy just came back from court seeing his father’s sentence, man. He’s gonna turn around and flip it and come out there and get you that?”

Sanders’ love for Horn isn’t one-sided.

“That means a lot, man. He’s just another good father figure, you feel me?” Horn said of Sanders. “So that’s a lot to me. That means a lot to me just to have him have my back, and then the people around too, like the coaching staff.”

Jimmy Horn Jr. will look to piece together one more standout showing at Colorado as the Buffaloes square off against BYU at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will air live on ABC.

Update on Jimmy Horn’s Injury: Colorado WR Provides Health Status Ahead of Alamo Bowl

As the Colorado Buffaloes prepare to take on the Texas Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl, wide receiver Jimmy Horn has provided an update on his health status following a recent injury.

Horn, who has been a key playmaker for the Buffaloes this season, suffered a minor injury during practice last week. However, after receiving treatment and undergoing evaluation by the team’s medical staff, he has been cleared to play in the upcoming bowl game.

“I’m feeling good and ready to go for the Alamo Bowl,” Horn said in a statement. “I was a little worried at first, but the medical staff has done a great job of getting me back on the field quickly. I’m grateful for their support and excited to help my team compete in this important game.”

Horn’s presence on the field will be crucial for the Buffaloes as they look to cap off their season with a victory over a tough opponent. With his speed, agility, and playmaking ability, he will be a key asset in Colorado’s offensive game plan.

Fans can rest assured knowing that Horn is healthy and ready to make an impact in the Alamo Bowl. Stay tuned for more updates on his performance in the game.

Warren Sapp Turns Up For Student With Incarcerated Father on Christmas Before Colorado’s Alamo Bowl

The pipeline from menacing D-tackle to sweetheart coach is not one traversed very often. Warren Sapp, however, seems to be breaking down conventional wisdom just as he broke down quarterback protection. The Colorado Buffaloes’ graduate assistant has thwarted a lot of negative notions surrounding him since his retirement from the NFL. Sapp has dedicated himself to nurturing young adults into great athletes and, more importantly, great people. His Christmas Day activity with one particular player is a proponent of this.

Warren Sapp fully embodied the Christmas spirit, as he seemingly spent the holiday with Buffs’ wide-receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. Horn had to deal with adversity from a young age. His father, who raised him as a single parent, is currently incarcerated on multiple drug-related charges. Without his parents to spend this special day with, Warren Sapp stepped up to the mantle for Jimmy.

In a post shared on his Instagram, Sapp posed up with Jimmy Horn Jr in the early hours of Christmas Day. Horn is rocking Buffs gear in the picture ahead of their Alamo Bowl date against BYU. “Merry Christmasfrom @j5fleezy & Fatboy! #FloridaFinest #SkoBuffs#SappNotFishing #AlamoBowl” read the caption. As the hashtag would suggest, both are Sunshine State natives. Their bond perhaps stems from this shared geography. Just an overall awesome thing for the Colorado faithful and the wider football sphere to wake up to on this blessed day.

Although Sapp doesn’t coach Horn directly, just being in the proximity of greatness of that ilk tends to brush off. Jimmy Horn Jr., however, saw a downturn in his production this season. His senior year numbers are down across most receiving categories. This is not an indictment on Jimmy, though, and is mostly by design rather than a regression. Travis Hunter and other ancillary skill-position players have featured more prominently in Deion Sanders’ offense this season.

Over in Warren Sapp’s department of expertise, things have only trended skywards. He’s garnered widespread props for solving Colorado’s issues at the line of scrimmage. Protection for their own quarterback and getting after the opposition’s quarterback were the Buffaloes’ Achilles heel last season. Warren Sapp has positively impacted either side of the trenches. This impact is reflected in the statistical metrics and the eye test alike. He’ll hope this continues into their last outing of the season down in San Antonio.

Warren Sapp and Jimmy Horn Jr. diverge paths after this weekend

Angst over the Colorado Buffaloes’ failure to make the CFP is a fallacy. It breaks down under the slightest bit of context. Back in August, folks in Boulder would’ve snapped your hand off if you offered them bowl-eligibility. Falling short of standards that didn’t exist prior cannot be used to proverbially beat the team with a stick. Colorado’s efforts have secured them a tryst against an upbeat BYU in the Alamo Bowl. This will be the Buffs’ first Bowl game in 4 years.

Begrudgingly, it’ll mark the last game for their superstar duo of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Meanwhile, another player donning the black and gold for one last time will be Jimmy Horn Jr. Similar to Warren Sapp spending time on Christmas with him in the absence of his parents, Coach Prime walked onto the field Jimmy on Senior Day as he bid farewell to the Buffs faithful.

A win in the bowl game will set a precedent for a retooled Colorado and give them momentum for 2025. With 5-star recruit Julian Lewis poised to fill their Shedeur-shaped void, the ceiling for the program remains sky-high. The culture that Deion Sanders has established and Warren Sapp is proliferating shall carry the program into this new era.

Warren Sapp Turns Up For Student With Incarcerated Father on Christmas Before Colorado’s Alamo Bowl

Former NFL star Warren Sapp showed his true generosity and compassion this Christmas by making a young fan’s holiday season one to remember. Sapp surprised a student named Jamie, whose father is currently incarcerated, with a special visit before the Colorado Buffaloes’ Alamo Bowl game.

The heartwarming moment was captured on video and shared on social media, showing Sapp presenting Jamie with a personalized jersey and spending time with him, offering words of encouragement and support. The video quickly went viral, with many praising Sapp for his kindness and thoughtfulness.

In a time when many are focused on their own festivities and celebrations, Sapp’s gesture serves as a reminder of the importance of giving back and spreading love and positivity to those in need. His act of kindness not only brightened Jamie’s Christmas but also touched the hearts of many others who witnessed the touching moment.

This holiday season, let’s all take a page out of Warren Sapp’s book and look for opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others, especially those who may be facing hardships or challenges. As Sapp has shown, a small act of kindness can go a long way in bringing joy and hope to those who need it most.

  • Deion Sanders’ heartfelt Alamo Bowl moment with Colorado’s centenarian is pure gold

Deion Sanders’ heartfelt Alamo Bowl moment with Colorado’s centenarian is pure gold

Deion Sanders continues to make an impact at Colorado, but perhaps his most heartfelt gesture came during the Alamo Bowl festivities in San Antonio. Sanders, known for his charisma and showmanship, turned his attention to 100-year-old superfan Peggy Coppom, giving her a moment to remember by bringing her up on stage at Thursday’s rally. As the crowd erupted, Sanders called Coppom the “Greatest of All-Time” in Colorado Buffaloes fandom, solidifying her place as a cherished part of the program.

Coppom’s journey to the Alamo Bowl was nothing short of first-class. The longtime CU supporter was flown to Texas on a luxurious jet, courtesy of Sanders, who has grown fond of Peggy over the past season. Their bond has become one of the most endearing stories surrounding Colorado football, a connection that highlights the spirit and tradition of the Buffs community.

Throughout the season, Coppom has been a regular fixture at games and team events. From making a splash at Colorado’s Black and Gold Spring Game to dancing in the locker room and sharing a viral moment with Rob Gronkowski on FOX’s Big Noon Saturday, Coppom’s presence injects life into every occasion. Her energy is infectious, and Sanders has embraced it fully, ensuring that Peggy remains a vibrant part of the program.

Coppom’s loyalty to the Buffs spans decades. Since moving to Boulder in 1939 to escape the Dust Bowl, she has rarely missed a Colorado football game. A season ticket holder since 1966, she has witnessed the highs and lows of CU football, standing by the team through it all. Her dedication embodies the essence of Buffs pride, and Sanders has made it clear that fans like Peggy are the backbone of the program.

Deion Sanders comes closer to ultimate fatherhood goal with Alamo Bowl send-off

Last year, Sanders made a promise that Colorado would return to a bowl game, and this year, with Peggy watching, that promise was fulfilled. The Buffs’ last true postseason appearance came in the 2016 Alamo Bowl against Oklahoma State, making this year’s game against the Cougars even more special.

Deion Sanders considers another surgery and being ‘five toes down’

As No. 23 Colorado prepares to face No. 17 BYU on Saturday night, Peggy Coppom will once again be in the spotlight, sharing in the excitement and passion that she has carried for nearly a century. With Sanders leading the charge, moments like these reflect the new energy surrounding Colorado football—one that honors the past while building a promising future.

Deion Sanders’ Heartfelt Alamo Bowl Moment with Colorado’s Centenarian is Pure Gold

During the recent Alamo Bowl game between Oregon and Colorado, former NFL star Deion Sanders took a moment to share a special interaction with a 100-year-old Colorado fan. The heartwarming moment was captured on camera and quickly went viral, touching the hearts of sports fans everywhere.

In the video, Sanders can be seen approaching the elderly fan, who is wearing a Colorado Buffaloes jersey and a big smile on her face. Sanders takes her hand and kneels down to chat with her, showing genuine interest and admiration for the woman’s dedication to her team.

The centenarian, identified as Mary, shares her love for the Buffaloes and her excitement for the game. Sanders listens attentively, nodding and smiling along with her as she speaks. The moment is a beautiful display of sportsmanship and connection between generations.

As the interaction comes to an end, Sanders gives Mary a hug and a kiss on the cheek, leaving her beaming with joy. The touching moment serves as a reminder of the power of sports to bring people together and create lasting memories.

In a world filled with negativity and division, Deion Sanders’ heartfelt Alamo Bowl moment with Colorado’s centenarian is a shining example of the goodness and kindness that can be found in sports. It is a reminder to cherish these moments of connection and to always treat others with respect and compassion.
