Nottingham Forest vs Brighton & Hove Albion: Premier League preview, team news, stats & head-to-head
Nottingham Forest are winless in their last three Premier League meetings with Brighton (D1 L2), having been unbeaten in their previous eight top-flight matches against the Seagulls (W6 D2).
Brighton won this exact fixture 3-2 last season – they’ve never before won consecutive away league games against Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest’s eight game unbeaten run came to an end last time out at Bournemouth, conceding more goals in that defeat (5) as they did in their previous seven Premier League games combined (4). Only once previously this season have they lost consecutive league matches, doing so in November against Newcastle and Arsenal.
Brighton’s six game unbeaten run was ended last time out at home to Everton. The Seagulls have won just two of their last 11 Premier League games (D6 L3) and could lose consecutive matches for the first time since ending last season with back-to-back defeats.
Nottingham Forest have won six of their last eight Premier League home games (D1 L1), with five of those six victories coming by a one goal margin. This is just the second time they are kicking off at 12:30 on a Saturday since their return to the Premier League, beating Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground in October 2022 in their only previous game.
Brighton have scored the opening goal in 10 of their 12 Premier League away games this season (including in each of their last five), more than any other side. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have gone 1-0 up in 18 of their 23 league games overall this term, the most in the division.
Only Erling Haaland (17), Alexander Isak (16) and Mohamed Salah (14) have scored more non penalty goals in the Premier League this season than Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood (12). Wood has scored more goals against Brighton (9) than he has against any other side in his English league career.
Brighton’s João Pedro has six goal involvements in his last eight away appearances in the Premier League (2 goals, 4 assists), also netting a brace at the City Ground back in November 2023.
The average distance of Nottingham Forest’s goal kicks in the Premier League this season has been 43.7 metres, the highest of any side, while 121 of those have ended in the attacking half, 26 more than any other team. By contrast, only three sides have taken goal kicks at a shorter average distance than Brighton this campaign (23.4 metres).
Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina has taken 35 throw-ins that have ended in the opposition’s penalty area in the Premier League this season, seven more than any other player. In total, Forest have taken 56 throws that end in the opposition box, with only Brentford doing so more often (60).

Sports Mole previews Saturday’s Premier League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Two sides who enjoyed impressive Premier League victories last weekend meet at the Amex on Saturday, when Brighton & Hove Albion play host to Everton.
Both clubs have been guilty of not winning enough games this season, but they took a huge step in the right direction with their performances last Sunday.
Match preview

Being away from the Amex over the past few weeks has helped Brighton get their season back on track, when it was starting to show signs of fading into mediocrity.
After an eight-game winless run in the Premier League, Brighton have since earned back-to-back victories, both coming on the road.
Beating Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road ended that barren run, before Fabian Hurzeler‘s men went to Old Trafford and swept an out-of-sorts Manchester United aside in a 3-1 success.
That was the third year running Brighton have won at Old Trafford, and they have done so under three different managers, with Hurzeler joining Roberto De Zerbi and Graham Potter in earning the Seagulls three points at the Theatre of Dreams.
The impact of their 4-0 win away to Norwich City in the FA Cup should not be underestimated either, because that allowed the likes of Georginio Rutter and Yankuba Minteh to return to form, and they both scored in the Man United win.
© Imago
Brighton now sit ninth and are well in the hunt for European qualification again, lying only three points off the top seven, and six off the top four.
This weekend provides the hosts with the opportunity to win three straight Premier League games for the first time in almost 18 months, but finding the winning spark at the Amex will be required, given that they have only taken maximum points three times in 10 games here this season.
However, they will enter this fixture knowing they have already enjoyed a big win over upcoming opponents Everton this season, leaving Goodison Park with a 3-0 victory on the opening day.
Brighton have never before completed a league double over Everton in 11 previous seasons, and David Moyes‘s task will be to ensure that continues, and the Toffees have a good recent record at the Amex.
After not winning on any of their first four Premier League visits here, Everton have now won two of the last three, and they should have taken three points here last season too, inexplicably throwing two points away in injury time against a 10-man Brighton.
© Iconsport
The Everton faithful will hope that Moyes can change the tune regarding their away form though, where they have just one goal in six games, and signs that times are changing were present last weekend, when the Toffees were dominant in their win over Tottenham Hotspur.
While the final score read 3-2, that was extremely flattering for a Spurs side that could have had no complaints if they were 6-0 down before pulling a goal back.
It was Everton’s first win since early December, moving them four points clear of the drop zone, and it also saw them claim a victory in the month of January for the first time in four years.
A blistering first-half performance also saw the Toffees score three goals in the opening 45 minutes at Goodison for the first time since April 2017, and they also scored two open-play goals in a single game for the first time in nine months.
Faltering in the second-half is nothing new though, and that is something Moyes must rectify, because no team has scored as few goals (seven) or conceded a higher proportion of goals (68%) after the interval than Everton.
A Premier League table taking into account only goals in the second half of matches would see Everton sit bottom of the table, so maintaining performance levels for longer than 45 minutes will be a priority.

Brighton are close to welcoming back numerous first-team players from injury, with Evan Ferguson, Mats Wieffer, Brajan Gruda and Jack Hinshelwood all back in training.
Hurzeler has been struck down with further injuries this week though, with Lewis Dunk and Matt O’Riley set to miss out, and the absence of the captain means Brighton will have just two fit central defenders here.
Out for the long term, Igor will not be seen again this season, while Ferdi Kadioglu and James Milner will not be back until next month.
Kaoru Mitoma has a fine record against Everton, scoring on two of his last three visits to Goodison, and notching another here at the Amex will see him become the first Japanese player to find the net in three straight Premier League games.
There will be little reason for Moyes to make any changes to his Everton team after their win last weekend, with the players who came into the side impressing.
Jesper Lindstrom caught the eye, having his best game in an Everton shirt to date, while summer signing Jake O’Brien got his first league start at right-back, doing nothing wrong despite playing slightly out of position.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended his 16-game scoring drought, solidifying his place in the starting XI, and finding some form in front of goal will be crucial, with Armando Broja out injured and Beto seemingly not in Moyes’s plans.
Everton will hope to welcome Dwight McNeil back from injury before the month is out, while James Garner has also been in full training, but is being eased back into the fold for the time being.
Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen; Veltman, Webster, Van Hecke, Estupinan; Baleba, Ayari; Minteh, Joao Pedro, Mitoma; WelbeckEverton possible starting lineup:
Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Lindstrom, Gueye, Mangala, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin
We say: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Everton
The stats suggest this will be a difficult afternoon for Everton, who have won just one of their last 21 away Premier League games, and Moyes has only ever enjoyed one win over the Seagulls in 10 previous meetings.
Brighton are back in form and full of confidence, scoring goals at will and collecting maximum points, and they will be favourites to do so again this weekend.

Brighton are looking to complete the league double over Everton for the first time, with this the 12th different campaign in which they’ve met.
Having been winless in their first four Premier League away games against Brighton (D2 L2), Everton have won two of their last three visits to the Amex Stadium (D1).
After an eight-game winless run in the Premier League, Brighton have now won both of their last two; they last won three in a row in the competition in September 2023. However, the Seagulls are winless in their last four at home in the league (D3 L1).
Everton have won just one of their last 21 Premier League away games (D8 L12), beating Ipswich 2-0 in October. Since that victory at Portman Road, the Toffees have scored just one goal in their six league games on the road (D3 L3).
No team have scored fewer second half goals than Everton (7) in the Premier League this season, while the Toffees have also shipped a league-high 68% of their goals after half-time this term (19/28). Indeed, in a Premier League table based on second half results this season, Everton would be bottom.
Only Nottingham Forest (39.2%) have a lower average possession figure than Everton (39.8%) in the Premier League this season. It’s the Toffees’ second-lowest possession on record in the competition (since 2003-04) after 2021-22 (39.1%).
Everton manager David Moyes has won just one of his 10 Premier League meetings with Brighton (D5 L4), though this did come in his last visit to the Amex Stadium in August 2023 with West Ham. It’s the Scotsman’s lowest win rate against any side in the competition (10%).
Brighton forward Danny Welbeck has been involved in more Premier League goals against Everton than he has against any other opponent (10 – 5 goals, 5 assists), scoring and assisting against the Toffees in the reverse fixture in August. His next game will be his 350th appearance in the competition.
Kaoru Mitoma has been directly involved in three goals in his last two Premier League games for Brighton (2 goals, 1 assist), as many as in his previous 18. With a goal here, he would become the first Japanese player to score in three consecutive Premier League appearances.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring for Everton in their 3-2 win against Spurs last time out, ending a run of 16 Premier League games without a goal. He also had six shots against Spurs, as many as he had in his previous six league appearances combined.
Brighton & Hove Albion will face off against Everton in an exciting Premier League clash this weekend. Both teams will be looking to secure a crucial victory as they continue their quest for a top-half finish in the league.Team News:
Brighton & Hove Albion will be without the services of Tariq Lamptey and Adam Lallana, who are both sidelined with injuries. However, they will be boosted by the return of Neal Maupay, who is expected to lead the line for the Seagulls.Meanwhile, Everton will be without the services of Yerry Mina and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who are both nursing injuries. However, they will be boosted by the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who will be looking to add to his impressive goal tally this season.
Stats:
– Brighton & Hove Albion have won just one of their last five Premier League matches, while Everton have won three of their last five.
– Everton have scored 39 goals in the league this season, compared to Brighton’s 32 goals.
– The last time these two teams met, Everton secured a 4-2 victory at Goodison Park.Head-to-Head:
In their last 10 meetings, Everton have won six matches, while Brighton & Hove Albion have won two. Two matches have ended in draws. This promises to be an exciting encounter between two evenly matched teams. Both sides will be eager to claim all three points and boost their chances of a strong finish in the league. Don’t miss out on this thrilling Premier League clash!

Manchester United have lost five of their last six Premier League games against Brighton (W1), including both meetings at Old Trafford in that run. Only against Man City (twice) have they lost three in a row at home in the competition.
Brighton have won seven of their 15 Premier League meetings with Manchester United – the Seagulls have the highest win rate against the Red Devils of any side in the competition’s history (47%).
None of the 15 Premier League meetings between Manchester United (8 wins) and Brighton (7) have been drawn – only Manchester United vs Wigan has been played more often without any draws in the competition’s history (16).
Each of Manchester United’s last 11 Premier League goals against Brighton have come in the second half of the match. They’ve not scored before half-time in any of their last eight meetings with the Seagulls, their joint-longest run without a first half goal against a side in the competition (also 8 vs Chelsea between 2013-2016).
This is the sixth time Brighton have faced Manchester United in the Premier League while above them in the league table, and the latest into a season they’ve done so. Having lost the first two such matches, the Seagulls have now won each of the last three.
Manchester United lost three of their four Sunday Premier League games under Erik ten Hag this season (D1) but have since lost just one of their seven following the Dutchman’s departure (W3 D3).
Brighton have a higher win rate (38.9%) and average more goals per game (1.6) on Sundays than they do any other day of the week on which they’ve played more than 10 games in the Premier League.
There has been at least four goals scored in all four of Brighton’s Premier League games on a Sunday this season (F8 A9). Their average of 4.3 goals-per-game in these games is the highest of any side on either Saturday or Sunday in the competition this term.
Having been involved in six goals in his first four Premier League appearances against Brighton (4 goals, 2 assists), Man Utd’s Bruno Fernandes hasn’t scored or assisted in any of his last six against the Seagulls.
Danny Welbeck and João Pedro scored Brighton’s goals in their 2-1 victory against Manchester United earlier this season. The only Seagulls player to score home and away against the Red Devils in the same Premier League campaign is Pascal Groß in 2018-19.
Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing draw against Southampton as they take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League this weekend.Team News:
Manchester United will be without the services of Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford due to injuries. However, they will welcome back Raphael Varane, who missed the last game due to illness. Brighton & Hove Albion will be without Tariq Lamptey and Danny Welbeck, who are both sidelined with injuries.Stats:
Manchester United have won 7 out of their last 10 Premier League matches, while Brighton & Hove Albion have won 3 and lost 5 in the same period. Manchester United have scored 23 goals in their last 10 matches, while Brighton have scored 12.Head-to-head:
In their last 5 meetings, Manchester United have won 3 matches, while Brighton & Hove Albion have won 1 and there has been 1 draw. Manchester United have scored 9 goals in those 5 matches, while Brighton have scored 5.Prediction:
Manchester United will be eager to get back to winning ways and will be looking to secure all 3 points against Brighton. With their attacking firepower and home advantage, they are likely to come out on top. However, Brighton have shown that they can be a tough team to break down and could pose a threat on the counter-attack. It could be a closely contested match, but Manchester United should emerge as the victors.Stay tuned for more updates and analysis on the Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion Premier League clash.

#Manchester #United #Brighton #Hove #Albion #Premier #League #preview #team #news #stats #headtoheadWest Bromwich Albion: Tony Mowbray returns to Hawthorns as boss
Analysis by BBC Radio WM’s Steve Hermon
This is a real emotional return for one of the most well-respected men in English football. The man they call ‘Mogga’.
Just 11 months ago, having already won three of his first six league games in charge, Mowbray had to step away as boss of Birmingham City for health reasons.
Without him, Blues went on to be relegated to League One, by which time Mowbray had stood down completely before then revealing to BBC Tees that he had undergone surgery for bowel cancer.
But he also stated in that same interview his ultimate desire to return to work – and his reappointment is filled with nostalgia for Albion fans who fondly remember the team’s positive style of play under him at The Hawthorns.
It was an eventful time in the club’s modern history too. Two Wembley appearances, both 1-0 defeats, by Derby County in the Championship play-off final in May 2007, then by Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi-final 11 months later.
But, only a month later, Mowbray’s Albion won promotion back to the Premier League, pipping this weekend’s visitors Stoke for the title.
Relegation followed after one season in the top flight, after which Mowbray left in 2009 for Celtic.
Now he returns via five more managerial stints, with his home-town club Middlesbrough, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and Blues.
They say you should never go back but you cannot deny the feel-good factor this will generate back at one of his favourite ‘homes’ of football.
He is one of football’s nice guys but he is also an experienced manager, who knows all about this division and what it takes to compete near the top.
Only time will tell if this heart-warming story also has a fairytale ending.
West Bromwich Albion fans were left buzzing with excitement as the news broke that former manager Tony Mowbray was set to return to the Hawthorns as the club’s new boss.Mowbray, who previously managed the Baggies from 2006 to 2009, was highly regarded by fans during his previous stint at the club. His attacking style of play and commitment to developing young players endeared him to the West Brom faithful, and many supporters were sad to see him leave when he departed for Celtic.
Now, after successful spells at Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City, Mowbray is back at West Brom and ready to lead the team back to the Premier League. With his experience and tactical acumen, fans are optimistic that he can guide the club to success in the Championship and secure promotion back to the top flight.
The appointment of Mowbray has been met with widespread approval from fans, who believe he is the perfect man to rejuvenate the club and bring back the glory days to the Hawthorns. With his return, hopes are high that West Brom can once again become a force to be reckoned with in English football.

Having been unbeaten in five consecutive home league games against Arsenal between 1982 and 2020 (W4 D1), Brighton have now lost three of their last four against the Gunners (D1).
Arsenal have won three of their last five Premier League games against Brighton (D1 L1), as many as they had in their first 10 against the Seagulls in the competition (D3 L4).
Brighton haven’t lost their first league game in any of the last eight calendar years (W3 D5), since a 1-0 home loss to Wolves on New Year’s Day 2016 in the Championship.
Brighton and Hove Albion scored just 21 goals at the Amex in the Premier League in 2024, a drop of 25 goals from 2023 when they scored 46. They failed to score in six home games in 2024, having only failed to score in one in 2023.
No side won more points in the Premier League in 2024 than Arsenal (85). Their 26 wins were their most in one year since 2004 (also 26), their 89 goals were their most since 1963 (112) and their 18 clean sheets were their most since 1999 (19).
Brighton and Hove Albion have drawn their last three Premier League games and are winless in seven (D5 L2). The Seagulls haven’t drawn four league games in a row since October 2014 in the Championship under Sami Hyypia.
In their first 19 Premier League games under Fabian Hürzeler, Brighton have drawn nine times (W6 L4). Only three managers have drawn 10 of their first 20 games in the Premier League – John Lyall in 1992 (11), John Deehan in 1994 (10) and Egil Olsen in 1999 (10).
Kai Havertz has scored in each of his last four Premier League games against Brighton, netting in all three against the Seagulls so far for Arsenal.
Bukayo Saka was directly involved in 28 Premier League goals for Arsenal in 2024 (15 goals, 13 assists), the most by a Gunners player in a single year since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2018 (23 goals, 7 assists). Saka’s 13 assists were the most for Arsenal in a year since Mesut Özil assisted 20 goals in 2015.
Since the start of last season, João Pedro has more Premier League goals and assists combined than any other Brighton player (13 goals, 8 assists) – his 13 goals are the most, while his eight assists are bettered only by the now departed Pascal Groß (10).
Brighton & Hove Albion will face off against Arsenal in a highly anticipated Premier League clash. Both teams will be looking to secure a crucial victory as they aim to climb up the league table. Here is a preview of the upcoming match, along with team news, stats, and head-to-head record between the two sides.Team News:
Brighton & Hove Albion will be without the services of midfielder Adam Lallana, who is sidelined with a thigh injury. However, they will welcome back defender Tariq Lamptey, who has recovered from a hamstring issue. Arsenal, on the other hand, will be without forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is nursing a calf injury. Midfielder Thomas Partey is also ruled out with a thigh problem.Stats:
Brighton & Hove Albion have struggled for consistency this season, sitting mid-table in the Premier League standings. They have scored 25 goals and conceded 30 in 25 matches. Arsenal, meanwhile, have had a mixed campaign and currently sit just outside the European qualification spots. They have scored 34 goals and conceded 27 in 24 matches.Head-to-Head:
Arsenal have historically had the upper hand in meetings between the two sides, winning 12 out of the 20 encounters. Brighton & Hove Albion have won just three times, with five matches ending in draws. In their most recent meeting earlier this season, Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Alexandre Lacazette. Both teams will be determined to come out on top in this crucial clash, as they look to secure valuable points in the race for European qualification. With key players missing due to injury, it promises to be an intriguing battle between two evenly matched sides. Stay tuned for what is sure to be an exciting and hard-fought contest between Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal.

Feels like 1979: Nottingham Forest moves into 2nd place behind rampant Liverpool in Premier League
By MATTIAS KAREN Associated Press
The Premier League table is starting to have a 1979 kind of feel to it — with Liverpool at the top of the standings and Nottingham Forest in second place as the closest challenger.
Liverpool padded its lead with a 5-0 rout of West Ham on Sunday, while upstart Nottingham Forest climbed into second place by beating Everton 2-0 to continue its surprising push for a Champions League place.
Forest was runner-up behind Liverpool in the English top tier in 1979 – the same year it won the first of two straight European Cups under Brian Clough – but hasn’t finished that high in the domestic first division since then.
The club’s long-suffering fans finally have reason to believe that the good times are back under Nuno Espirito Santo. Although the Portuguese manager was the first to point out that his team may not stay in second place for very long.
“It doesn’t mean anything,” Nuno said of his team’s position. “We haven’t achieved anything yet.”
Forest could find itself back in fourth place by Jan. 1 as it is only one point above Arsenal and two ahead of Chelsea, with both London clubs having a game in hand.
Liverpool could prove a lot harder to overtake, though, as Arne Slot’s team only seems to be growing stronger and stronger.
The performance at West Ham was one of its most impressive yet, with five different players getting on the scoresheet — including Mohamed Salah, who netted the team’s third for his league-leading 17th of the season.
Salah also had an assist to take his tally to 52 goal contributions in all competitions for the calendar year 2024 — 29 goals and 23 assists.
Salah was asked after the match if he would soon have good news for fans about his future beyond the end of this season, when his contract expires. The Egyptian told Sky Sports: “No, we are far away from that.”
“The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that,” Salah said. “I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There is a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again.”
Liverpool is nine points ahead of Arsenal and 10 above Chelsea, with all three teams having played 18 games.
Manchester City is 14 points back having played 19 games, after beating Leicester 2-0 away.
Guardiola marks milestone with win
In his 500th game in charge of Man City, Pep Guardiola had some reasons to smile again.
City marked Guardiola’s milestone with a win and a goal from Erling Haaland — things that the Spaniard used to take for granted but have been increasingly rare of late for the struggling four-time defending Premier League champions.
Savinho also netted his first goal for the club in a much-needed win, although the team still looked far from the juggernaut that has dominated English soccer for much of the Spaniard’s reign.
Leicester had several chances for an equalizer before Savinho set up Haaland for the second in the 74th as City ended a five-game winless run in all competitions.
“Just relief, that is the word to express how all of us feel,” Guardiola said. “It was not the ideal performance but hopefully the victories will give our mood a better position. … Hopefully in the new year we can bounce back a bit from a bad moment.”
This was only the club’s second win in 14 games in all competition. And even against a team mired in the relegation zone, City was pegged back for much of the second half until Haaland’s header ended Leicester’s resistance.
Savinho put the team ahead in the 21st minute by pouncing on the rebound after Phil Foden drove forward and tried a low shot from distance that Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk pushed to the side. The ball fell into the path of the onrushing Savinho, who lifted it over the goalkeeper and into the net.
The winger then turned provider by lifting a perfect cross into the box for Haaland to head home the second, shortly after Jamie Vardy had missed a good chance for a Leicester equalizer.
Spurs drop points again
Tottenham’s roller-coaster of a season had another downturn as Spurs conceded a late equalizer to draw 2-2 at home against Wolves.
Ange Postecoglou has come under increasing criticism of late because of his team’s all-attacking style of play and the team’s defensive vulnerabilities were on display again as Jorgen Strand Larsen was afforded space to beat Fraser Forster at his near post in the 87th minute.
Wolves had taken the lead through Hwang Hee-chan after a well-worked free kick routine in the seventh minute, but Rodrigo Bentancur equalized five minutes later and Brennan Johnson gave Tottenham the lead on the stroke of halftime.
Substitute Dango Ouattara netted an even later equalizer for Bournemouth to draw 2-2 at Fulham, while Crystal Palace came from a goal down to beat last-place Southampton 2-1.
