When will Jaire Alexander return to the field for the Green Bay Packers?
That’s the question likely on a lot of Packers fans’ minds as the missed games keep adding up for the injured former All-Pro cornerback.
He has played just 10 snaps since leaving the Green Bay Packers’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a knee injury in late October. And he’s been completely out since before Thanksgiving.
Here’s more on Alexander’s current injury status, his contract and stats.
Jaire Alexander injury
Alexander, who turns 28 in February, has had another injury-plagued season. He’s missed considerable time for the third season in the last four years.
This year it’s been multiple injuries. First came the quad and groin injuries that forced him to miss games against the Vikings and Los Angeles Rams in Weeks 4 and 5. A few weeks later in Jacksonville, he left with a knee injury, the current ailment that has kept him mostly sidelined since then.
Alexander missed the Packers’ next game against the Detroit Lions at home and used the bye as an extra week to return at Chicago on Nov. 17. But his time against the Bears was short-lived. Alexander lasted just two series and 10 snaps.
It’s the latest in a string of injuries for Alexander in recent seasons. He played just four games in 2021 after suffering a shoulder injury. His season ended on injured reserve.
Alexander came back in 2022 and played in all 16 regular season games. But he’s played in only 14 of a possible 32 regular season games in the last two years. Back and shoulder injuries kept him out of 10 games in 2023. He did return for the playoffs last season and had an interception against the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card win.
According to Spotrac.com, Alexander’s base salary is $6.65 million this season. It will increase to $16.15 million in 2025 and $18.15 million in 2026. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
His four-year rookie deal with the Packers from 2018-22 was worth just north of $12 million.
Jaire Alexander stats
Alexander received the extension after playing in just four games in that 2021 season. But before that, he quickly established himself as one of the game’s top young cornerbacks. He played in 13 games as a rookie in 2018, all 16 games in 2019 and 15 in 2020, his first season that he earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors.
Alexander has played in 78 games across seven seasons, with 240 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions and 70 passes defended.
He had his first touchdown on a pick-six this season in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans.
How many Pro Bowls has Jaire Alexander been to?
Alexander has been to the Pro Bowl twice, first in 2020 and again in 2022. He also earned All-Pro honors in both of those seasons.
In 2022, he had a career-high five interceptions. It was a nice bounce-back season for Alexander but injuries have derailed him since.
The Green Bay Packers cornerback, Jaire Alexander, recently signed a contract extension worth $76 million over four years, making him one of the highest-paid players at his position. However, the star cornerback has been sidelined with a shoulder injury, leaving fans wondering when he will return to the field. Stay tuned for updates on Alexander’s injury status and when he is expected to make his comeback for the Packers. #JaireAlexander #Packers #NFLInjuryUpdates
The Green Bay Packers will be without cornerback Jaire Alexander for the sixth consecutive game after the team ruled him out on Friday’s final injury report ahead of Sunday’s visit to play the Minnesota Vikings.
Alexander, who first injured his knee on Oct. 28, was downgraded to limited on Thursday and then to a non-participant on Friday. He hasn’t played since Week 11, when he was available for only 10 snaps before exiting after aggravating the knee ligament injury.
Coach Matt LaFleur provided no additional context on Alexander’s injury status on Friday. He has practiced in various capacities over the last three weeks but hasn’t been physically ready to return.
Alexander will miss his ninth game of the season and 19th game over the last two seasons. He has played in only seven games in 2024 after appearing in only seven in 2023.
The Packers also ruled out safety Evan Williams, who will miss a second straight game with a quad injury, and linebacker Quay Walker, who is out for a second consecutive week after injuring his ankle in Seattle.
Backup offensive tackle Andre Dillard suffered a concussion at some point this week and is out for Sunday.
Three players are questionable to play: receiver Christian Watson (knee), safety Javon Bullard (ankle) and linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper (ankle).
Watson injured his knee on Monday night against the New Orleans Saints and did not participate in any capacity during practice this week, but LaFleur left the door open to the third-year receiver playing Sunday if his body responds over the weekend.
Bullard, who missed two games with an ankle injury, could return after getting in three limited practices this week. His return could help ease the absence of Williams at safety.
The Vikings had only two designations on their final injury report: cornerback Fabian Morean is out, and linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. is questionable.
The Green Bay Packers have ruled out star cornerback Jaire Alexander, along with three other key players, for their Week 17 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. This news comes as a blow to the Packers’ defense, as Alexander has been a standout player for them all season.
Despite the absence of Alexander and the other players, the Packers will look to secure a victory in their final regular season game and maintain their position atop the NFC standings. It will be a tough challenge against the division rival Vikings, but the Packers have shown resilience and depth throughout the season.
Fans will be eager to see how the Packers adjust without Alexander and the other players, but one thing is for certain – they will be giving it their all to come out on top in this crucial matchup. Stay tuned for updates on game day and Go Pack Go!
Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is officially set to make his return to chasing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He comes back to action from a fractured fibula injury that kept him sidelines for 16 games.
Ovechkin suffered the injury in a shin-to-shin collision on Nov. 18 with Utah Hockey Club defenseman Jamie McBain. He had notched both goal No. 14 and 15 in the game, which had propelled him to being leading the NHL in scoring at 39-years-old.
Ovechkin was well on pace to exceed Gretzky’s 894 career goals this season with an estimated time to be in February before his leg injury.
Now, things get a bit more challenging if Ovechkin plans to make history in 2024-25.
He currently stands at 868 career goals, leaving him with 27 to go in order to slide into claiming the title of hockey’s all-time highest scoring player.
Ovechkin has scored against every franchise he’s ever faced in the NHL at one point or another. He has 44 career goals against the Maple Leafs, which is tied for the fifth amount against any opponent.
He’s scored the most against the Winnipeg Jets, who were the Atlanta Thrashers up until 2011-12, with 55 goals.
The Capitals have surged back into competitive territory in the wake of their fabled captain’s legendary pursuits. After making the playoffs as the worst statistical team to do so in 33 years last season, Washington is perched in second place of the crowded Metropolitan Division and has even gone 10-5-1 in Ovechkin’s stead.
What will aid Ovechkin’s chase is the improvement in the power play, which he already leads the sport’s history with at 316. The three-time MVP is known for setting up “in his office,” which is where he parks himself at the top of the left circle as droves of fellow Capitals have fed him one-timer shots through his 20-year career.
The Capitals power-play unit has increased by only one percent since last season (including the 16 games Ovechkin has been absent for).
Though the man advantage is Ovechkin’s bread and butter, the Capitals’ progression in the NHL standings is primarily thanks to their stronger five-on-five play this year. Washington is ranked No. 5 overall in expected goals rate at five-on-five, as per Moneypuck.
Ovechkin is the No. 2 player overall in expected goals per 60 minutes in all situations. So whether it be on the power play or not, it’s still in the realm of possibility for Ovechkin to bank another 27 goals this season, especially with the Capitals primed to make the playoffs.
Alexander Ovechkin, the beloved captain of the Washington Capitals, has made his highly anticipated return to the ice after missing several games due to injury. Fans all over the hockey world have been eagerly awaiting his comeback, and he did not disappoint in his first game back.
Ovechkin is currently chasing the legendary Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record of 894 goals. With his recent return, the question on everyone’s mind is just how far away is he from breaking Gretzky’s record?
As of now, Ovechkin has scored 741 career goals, leaving him 153 goals shy of Gretzky’s record. While this may seem like a daunting task, Ovechkin has proven time and time again that he is a goal-scoring machine capable of putting up impressive numbers season after season.
At 36 years old, Ovechkin shows no signs of slowing down and continues to be a dominant force on the ice. With his determination and skill, many believe that he has a legitimate shot at surpassing Gretzky’s record and etching his name in the history books as one of the greatest goal scorers of all time.
Only time will tell if Ovechkin can achieve this incredible feat, but one thing is for certain – his return to the Capitals lineup has reignited the excitement and hope of fans everywhere. Let’s continue to cheer on Ovechkin as he continues his pursuit of hockey greatness.
