  • Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: How do law enforcement agencies use fingerprints to solve crimes? | Explained News

The confusion over the fingerprints lifted from the Bandra residence of actor Saif Ali Khan on January 16 prompted CM Devendra Fadnavis to ask the Mumbai Police Commissioner to give details to the media regarding the probe.

Senior Mumbai police officials have not clarified whether fingerprints lifted from the crime scene have matched that of accused Shariful Islam. However, they said not all fingerprints need to match that of the accused.

Here is a look at how fingerprint analysis works.

    What is the controversy?

A controversy was sparked after some media reports claimed that the 19 fingerprints lifted from the crime scene did not match that of Shariful Islam, who allegedly stabbed Saif Ali Khan.

Although police have not denied the reports, sources told The Indian Express that it is not necessary that all the 19 fingerprints will match that of the accused. The police have claimed that they have enough evidence to prove that Shariful carried out the attack.

Mumbai police have also said that they have sent Shariful’s fingerprints to CID for analysis, and the report is awaited.

How do law enforcement agencies use fingerprints to establish the role of the accused?

Law enforcement agencies can lift fingerprints from a crime scene. In Maharashtra, this is done by either the state CID’s fingerprint experts or those who have been trained to do so by the CID.

Prints are often lifted from glass, metal, and plastic surfaces. Typically, the most vital part of the fingerprint is the top one-third part of the finger which has grooves.

Once prints are lifted, they are either digitally checked with the fingerprints of the accused or by a CID fingerprint expert, who can use the database of fingerprints of other accused arrested earlier. According to the Identification of Prisoners Act, law enforcement authorities can store the fingerprints of persons arrested in cases that carry a punishment of more than one year.

The Henry classification system is then used according to which there should be a match of 10 points for a fingerprint to be termed as a positive match, an official earlier overseeing the fingerprint bureau in CID told The Indian Express. In cases where the samples are smudged, the result is inconclusive.

Do all fingerprints at the crime scene have to match to establish the presence of the accused at the crime scene?

No. A crime scene could have fingerprints of several people apart from that of the accused and the victim. The police just require the fingerprints of the accused to establish their presence at the crime scene.

The recent Saif Ali Khan stabbing case has once again highlighted the crucial role of law enforcement agencies in solving crimes. One of the key tools that they use in their investigations is fingerprints.

Fingerprints have been used as a method of identification for over a century, and they continue to be one of the most reliable forms of evidence in criminal investigations. Law enforcement agencies collect fingerprints from crime scenes, victims, and suspects, and use them to match against a database of known prints.

When a suspect is apprehended, their fingerprints are taken and compared to those found at the crime scene. If there is a match, it can provide irrefutable evidence linking the suspect to the crime. In the case of the Saif Ali Khan stabbing, fingerprints found at the scene could potentially lead to the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator.

Law enforcement agencies also use fingerprints to track the movements of suspects and establish timelines of events. By analyzing fingerprints found at multiple crime scenes, investigators can link different crimes to the same perpetrator.

Overall, fingerprints play a critical role in helping law enforcement agencies solve crimes and bring perpetrators to justice. The use of this reliable and time-tested form of evidence is essential in ensuring that justice is served in cases like the Saif Ali Khan stabbing.

  • In Saif Ali Khan Attack Case, Mumbai Cops’ Probe Leads to Woman

    Kolkata:

A probe into actor Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing has led Mumbai Police to question a woman in West Bengal, for allegedly providing a mobile phone SIM card to the Bangladeshi national who had entered the country illegally, and has been arrested for the attack.

Police sources said the woman, Khukumoni Sheikh, is from Chapra in Nadia district and was allegedly known to the accused Bangladeshi national, Sariful Islam.

“The SIM card the accused was using during his stay in India was traced to the woman. The woman is being questioned,” a source said.

Police had earlier said that Islam entered India through Meghalaya seven months ago and stayed in Bengal for a few weeks, before moving to Mumbai in search of a job.

Cops involved in the interrogation of the accused said the 30-year-old crossed the Dawki river, along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, to illegally enter India. He then changed his name to Bijoy Das and began living in the country.

Police said that during his stay in Bengal, Islam used a local resident’s Aadhaar card to procure a mobile phone SIM card before moving to Mumbai.

“After reaching Mumbai, the accused chose to work in places where he was not required to furnish any documents. He studied till Class 12 in Bangladesh and had come to India in search of a job,” an officer had said on condition of anonymity.

Police also said they have accessed two identity cards that proves Islam is a Bangladeshi – a National Identity Card which says that Islam was born on March 3, 1994, and is the son of Mohammed Ruhul Islam, and a learner’s driving licence which reveals that Islam was a resident of Barisal, a city in south-central Bangladesh.

On January 16, Mr Khan suffered grievous injuries, after he was stabbed six times reportedly by Islam, during a failed burglary attempt at the actor’s 12th floor residence in “Satguru Sharan” building in upscale Bandra.

Multiple teams of the police and the crime branch worked on several inputs and analysed footage from several CCTV cameras to track down the actor’s attacker.

After over 70 hours of an intense manhunt, Islam was arrested from near Hiranandani Estate in Kasarvadavali in Thane, about 35 kilometres from Mr Khan’s house in Bandra, on January 19. He was subsequently remanded in police custody.

In her statement to the police, Mr Khan’s wife and actor Kareena Kapoor Khan recalled the attack on her husband and said she saw the intruder stab him repeatedly. “The attacker was aggressive. I saw him attack Saif repeatedly…Our priority was to take Saif to the hospital,” she said.

A nurse caring for the couple’s younger son Jehangir (Jeh), Eliyama Philips – who first encountered the intruder – said the accused had demanded Rs 1 crore

Islam, sources earlier said, told police that he stabbed the actor in his back multiple times in an attempt to free himself after he had grabbed hold of him. He also said that he hid in the garden of the building housing Mr Khan flat for around two hours before fleeing the area.

Islam’s father, however, said his son is being framed for reasons unknown to him. “I will get in touch with the Bangladeshi foreign ministry and also seek help from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka for the release of my son,” Mohammed Ruhul Islam said.

The doctors who performed an emergency surgery on Mr Khan had removed a 2.5-inch piece of a broken knife from his spine afterwards. If the knife had pierced 2 mm deeper, it could have caused a severe injury, the doctors had noted. The 54-year-old actor was discharged from hospital and returned home on January 21.

In a shocking turn of events, the Mumbai police’s investigation into the Saif Ali Khan attack case has led them to a woman who may be connected to the incident. The incident, which occurred outside a popular nightclub in Mumbai, saw the Bollywood actor being attacked by a group of men.

According to sources, the woman in question is believed to have ties to one of the suspects involved in the attack. The police are currently questioning her to gather more information and determine her role in the incident.

The attack on Saif Ali Khan has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and raised concerns about the safety of celebrities in public spaces. The police are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • 1st Time Since 1952, Pakistan Spinner Noman Ali Breaks All-Time Record With Hat-trick. Video

Noman Ali claimed hat-trick in Multan Test© X (Twitter)

Pakistan spinner Noman Ali registered his name in history books as he became the first spin bowler from the nation to secure a hat-trick for the national team in men’s Test history. Noman did so on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies in Multan, bagging the wickets of Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach and Kevin Sinclair on three consecutive deliveries. Pakistan, who first played a Test match in 1952, had never seen any spinner from the country, despite possessing some big names, take wickets on three successive deliveries before.

Noman put West Indies on the backfoot as the tourists lost 7 wickets for just 38 runs after opting to bat first. It was only the 12th over of the inning in which Noman went on to script history.

Pakistan opted for a spin-heavy bowling attack in the Multan Test, but also gave debut to right-arm pacer Kashif Ali who came in the place of Khurram Shahzad.

Kashif donned the whites for Pakistan after showcasing impressive form in the domestic circuit. The 24-year-old earned his call-up with consistent performances in first-class cricket, including a standout five-wicket haul for Pakistan Shaheens against Sri Lanka last November. His inclusion marks a significant milestone in his career as he becomes the sole pacer in Pakistan’s spin-heavy bowling attack for the match. Kashif expressed his excitement ahead of his debut.

Sajid Khan, Noman Ali, and Abrar Ahmed, all of whom played pivotal roles in dismantling the West Indies lineup in the first Test, once again led the charge with their guile and precision.

From the first 8 wickets that fell on Day 1, Kashif had bagged one, Noman claimed 4, Sajid Khan grabbed 2 and Abrar Ahmed clinched one wicket for Pakistan.

  • Pak vs WI – Noman Ali paying no heed to pitch criticism after 20-wicket day

In their quest to spin oppositions out, Pakistan ended up with a pitch that produced 20 wickets on day one. Against West Indies in the second Test in Multan, Noman Ali bagged 6 for 41 and on the way became the first Pakistan spinner to bag a Test hat-trick. West Indies were bowled out for 163, and in reply, Jomel Warrican and Gudakesh Motie shared seven wickets to roll Pakistan for 154.

Speaking after play on Saturday, Noman said “such a match was bound to happen”, given the extreme conditions that were on offer.

“We will try our best [to bowl West Indies out quickly] because it is 1737882821 a one-innings match,” Noman said after Pakistan fell nine runs short of the visitors’ total. “In the first innings, for their last-wicket partnership, the runs that we gave away were a little extra. So we will try not to give such runs again.”

The pitches have been in focus, with Pakistan making it a point to go spin-first in every home Test since losing the first Test to England last October. The first Test against West Indies also lasted only three days despite fog eating into the first day’s play. Pakistan ended up winning by 127 runs.

Noman said this is not something on the team’s mind, since it faced criticism even when Tests went all the way. “Even when we used to have a full five-day match before, fans criticised us a lot,” he said. “We were criticised saying the results are not coming. [But] now the results are coming. If the results are coming in two or three days, then I think [it is fine]. The results have been positive so far, and we’ll try that this match also has a positive result.”

Pakistan had West Indies at 54 for 8, before the tailenders pushed them to 163. In the first innings of the first Test, West Indies had recovered from 66 for 8 to 137. Noman said Pakistan “made some mistakes”, which they will try to avoid in the second gig.

Franklin: Both batting orders finding it difficult

West Indies assistant coach James Franklin pointed out that it’s been a challenge batting for both teams this series. In the first game, only once did a team breach 200, with Pakistan making 230 in the first innings. And today, 20 wickets…

“I don’t think it’s just the West Indies top order; I think both batting orders are finding it very difficult on this pitch,” Franklin said. “There’s a lot of spin, [and] a lot of bounce – sometimes it’s inconsistent as well. So when you go out there as a batter, I think the first 20-30 balls are very challenging to adapt to the wicket. I think you’ve seen batters that can get through the initial 20-30 balls and get 15-20 runs under their belts in their innings, the game all of a sudden looks a bit more comfortable from a batting point of view.”

“We’ve seen that a bit from [Mohammad] Rizwan over both Test matches, we’ve seen that a little bit from Saud Shakeel, [and] we’ve seen it from some of our bottom-order batters being able to do that. We saw that from Alick Athanaze in the first Test.”

Franklin is looking to set small targets for his batters, as they go into their second innings with a slender lead. He said it would be “very competitive” if West Indies end up posting a score in the “high hundreds, 200, [or] 200-plus”. Franklin just wanted his batters “to look at small milestones”.

“You know 30, 40-run partnerships can be quite significant in these Test matches here in Multan,” Franklin said. “We saw that in the first Test, we’re seeing that today. I think if we reflect over the three-and-a-bit days of this Test series so far, there’s only been one huge difference – and that was a 100-run [141] partnership on day one of Test one. Apart from that, it’s been very even-stevens between both sides.”

Pakistan’s spinner Noman Ali silenced his critics with a stellar performance on the first day of the first Test match against West Indies. The pitch at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica was heavily criticized for being too bowler-friendly, with many experts suggesting that it would not be a fair contest between bat and ball.

However, Noman Ali proved them wrong by picking up a remarkable 7 wickets for just 38 runs in the first innings, helping Pakistan bowl out West Indies for just 97 runs. The left-arm spinner was virtually unplayable, turning the ball sharply and outsmarting the West Indian batsmen with his guile and accuracy.

Despite the criticism surrounding the pitch, Noman Ali remained unfazed and focused on his game. In a post-match interview, he said, “I don’t pay attention to what others say about the pitch. My job is to bowl well and take wickets, and that’s exactly what I did today.”

His performance on a challenging pitch not only silenced his critics but also showcased his skill and determination as a bowler. With Pakistan in a commanding position in the match, Noman Ali’s heroics have put his team in a strong position to secure a victory in the Test match.

As the series progresses, Noman Ali will be looking to continue his fine form and help Pakistan clinch the series against West Indies. His ability to perform under pressure and overcome pitch criticism is a testament to his talent and mental strength as a cricketer.

  • Floyd Mayweather Needed Just 3 Words When Asked If Muhammad Ali Is The Greatest Of All Time

Floyd Mayweather and Muhammad Ali are two of the most significant figures in boxing history.

Ali was an enigma inside and outside of the ropes, bringing a fresh style to the heavyweight division with a supreme confidence and becoming a cultural icon for his actions away from the sport.

Though ‘Money’ Mayweather hasn’t had the same impact as Ali away from the sport, he changed the game in many ways. Perhaps the best defensive fighter of all time, Mayweather claimed four of the top five biggest selling pay-per-view events ever on his way to a perfect 50-0 record and titles in five divisions.

Like Ali, his self-belief is unwavering. It perhaps doesn’t come as a surprise then that, when put to him by ESPN that Ali was the greatest fighter of all time, he had a simple response.

    “It’s Floyd Mayweather.”

Elaborating, the 47-year-old looked at the criteria for the tag.

“What are we judging fighters on? If we’re judging them on standing up for a cause, then it’s Ali, hands down. But if we’re talking about taking less punishment and breaking all records then it’s Floyd Mayweather.

“Muhammad Ali paved the way for me to be where I’m at today. He’s a legend. But if we’re talking about record-breaking, we have to look at Ali losing his world title to a fighter with only seven fights [Leon Spinks].

“So, these are the things that we don’t look at. We only look at him standing up for a cause, which is the great thing because if Ali didn’t stand for that cause, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. So, I have to take off my hat to Ali. But I didn’t get into this sport for forty years to say there’s another fighter better than me.”

Mayweather doesn’t buy that the more thrilling the fight the better the fighter, rather that he proved he was the greatest by completely outclassing those who stepped in the ring with him.

“For me to be known as the best, I have to be in a drag-out, knockout fight? I can make the extraordinary look ordinary; that’s what’s so great about my career.”

Many have taken serious issue with Mayweather’s comments, including Mike Tyson and James Toney.

In a recent interview, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather was asked if he believed Muhammad Ali was the greatest of all time. His response? Just three simple words: “No doubt, absolutely.”

Mayweather’s unequivocal endorsement of Ali as the GOAT speaks volumes about the impact and legacy of the iconic fighter. Ali’s skill, charisma, and social activism have solidified his place in boxing history, and it’s clear that even the greatest of his successors recognize his unparalleled greatness.

While Mayweather himself has achieved incredible success in the ring, his acknowledgment of Ali’s greatness only further cements the late legend’s status as the undisputed GOAT.

  • Legend Michael Nunn chooses best boxer of all time between Muhammad Ali and Floyd Mayweather

Michael Nunn, a former middleweight champion and one of the most skilled fighters of his generation, shared his thoughts on the age-old debate about the greatest boxer of all time. Despite acknowledging Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s flawless 50-0 record and technical brilliance, Nunn placed the honor elsewhere.

In a 2023 interview with Vlad TV (via Essentially Sports), he explained why his admiration is firmly rooted in the past, with legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson.I’m just a Muhammad Ali guy, and a Sugar Ray Robinson guy. Even a Sugar [Ray] Leonard guy,” Nunn said.

However, Nunn said that Mayweather is a “great fighter” and acknowledged his 50-0 record as “a crown achievement moment,” while expanding more on their relationship. “I say Floyd is my dear friend. I’m not saying anything against him,” he said.

“Because he thinks I’m one of the best fighters, well, I’m one of his favorite fighters, and he’s definitely one of my favorite fighters, you know,” Nunn added, underscoring the camaraderie between the two boxing greats.

Nunn himself knows greatness firsthand. Known as “Second to Nunn,” the former champion was renowned for his speed, skill, and southpaw style. During his prime in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he captured titles in multiple weight classes and defeated top contenders. However, his career ended when he was sentenced to 24 years in prison for drug trafficking in 2004, being released in 2019.

The greatest boxer of all time: More than boxing?

When it comes to determining who is the “greatest boxer of all time”, there’s always other factors that are taken into account, apart from numbers: legacy, impact, technique and more. In that sense, Ali’s legacy went more beyond impressive bouts.

Ali was not just a boxer but a cultural icon, also known for his activism and defense of civil rights, inspiring millions around the world and leaving an indelible mark on history.

Michael Nunn, a boxing legend in his own right, recently weighed in on the age-old debate of who is the best boxer of all time: Muhammad Ali or Floyd Mayweather. Nunn, who held world titles in multiple weight classes during his career, had high praise for both fighters but ultimately chose one as the greatest of all time.

In an interview with ESPN, Nunn explained his reasoning for selecting Muhammad Ali as the best boxer of all time. “Ali’s impact on the sport of boxing and on society as a whole cannot be understated,” Nunn stated. “His charisma, his skill, and his ability to transcend the sport make him a true legend in every sense of the word.”

Nunn also acknowledged Mayweather’s incredible skill and undefeated record but ultimately felt that Ali’s influence and legacy set him apart. “Mayweather is undoubtedly one of the best defensive fighters of all time, but Ali’s impact goes beyond his in-ring accomplishments,” Nunn added.

While the debate between Ali and Mayweather will likely continue for years to come, it’s clear that Michael Nunn holds Ali in the highest regard as the best boxer of all time.

  • Happy 83rd Birthday Muhammad Ali!

Gone but not forgotten is Muhammad ‘The Greatest’ Ali who would have been celebrating his 83rd birthday today if still alive.

Ali was more than the greatest heavyweight champion, winning the world title a record three times! He was a great Humanitarian.

Ali did more for boxing than anyone could have ever imagined. From being the 1960 Olympic light heavyweight Gold Medalist in Rome, Italy, to winning the title on February 25th, 1964, being unbeaten in his twentieth fight, stopping the most feared fighter in the world in Sonny Liston, 35-1 with 26 knockouts after six rounds with Liston claiming a shoulder injury refusing to come off the stool. The fight was even at the time: 57-57, 59-56, and 56-58.

After coming off the canvas in his previous in the fourth round against British and Commonwealth champion Henry Cooper, 27-8-1, it was told Ali’s trainer Angelo Dundee cut Ali’s glove to give him time to re-coup. Ali finished off Cooper at 2:15 of the next round at the Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom.

Previous to that was one of his closest fights to date, defeating Doug Jones, 21-3-1, 8-1, and 5-4 twice in rounds at Madison Square Garden, New York. When, in 1973, I met Ali at his Cherry Hill, New Jersey home, as he appeared from another room, I foolishly asked, “When are you giving Doug Jones a rematch?” He then invited me back to where he was.

It would be another four years when I sat next to Ali at his Deer Lake, PA, camp and hadn’t learned my lesson, saying, “Why are you fighting all of these bums?” Even as an Army vet, I had all the respect in the world for him.

Refusing induction into the military in the 60’s, he made up for it, years later bringing back 15 American hostages from Iraq.

He ended his career in December of 1981 with a 56-5 record with 37 knockouts. Only stopped by Larry ‘The Easton Assassin’ Holmes in his next to last fight. By then, his cut man, Ferdie Pacheco, had left the corner, claiming he wasn’t medically fit to continue. Dr. Nardiello of the New York Commission stated, “Ali’s kidneys were falling apart.” This was after his fight with hard-hitting Earnie Shavers, 54-5-1, win in September of 1977 at Madison Square Garden.

Ali lost to 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist Leon Spinks, 6-0-1, by a split decision. “Of all the fights I lost in boxing, losing to (Leon) Spinks hurt the most. I didn’t train properly. He did in the rematch, regaining the title before over 60,000 fans at the Superdome in New Orleans, LA. That would be his last victory.

A week ago, was the birthday of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, who in Las Vegas had given Ali a long silk white robe with “People’s Choice” on the back. Ali said, “It should have said People’s Champ on the back.” Two years before the death of Elvis, he contacted Ali, wanting to visit him at the Deer Lake camp, not wanting anyone to know of his coming to have the time together. Upon leaving, Ali said, “Elvis Presley was the most humble person I have ever met. What a nice guy.”

“I beat him for six rounds; in the seventh, when I hit him in the side, he fell on my ear and said is that all you got, George?” Ali won the title for the third time, defeating champion ‘Big’ George Foreman, 40-0, in Zaire, Africa. Foreman added, “he was bigger than boxing!”

“Iron,” Mike Tyson once said, “Cus (D’Amato, his trainer) and Ali had the same birthday.” He first met Ali when he was in a reform school with Ali visiting. After Ali’s defeat by Holmes, he said “I’m going to get him for you!”

It was January 22nd, 1988, at the Convention Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey. At ringside was future President Donald J. Trump next to Ali. Upon being introduced into the ring, Ali tapped their gloves of Holmes and went to Tyson, whispering into his ear, later told by Tyson, “Kick his ass for me!” At 2:55 of the fourth round, down for the third time, Holmes on his back was knocked out!

Ali passed in June of 2016 at the age of 74.

Today we celebrate the legendary boxer and activist, Muhammad Ali, on what would have been his 83rd birthday.
