Jarrett Allen was properly excluded from All-Star Game
Last night the Eastern Conference All-Star Reserves were announced on TNT’s pregame show. As you can expect there were many takes flying around social media about the snubs and who was wrongfully selected (cough cough Tyler Herro).
Among the discourse was the praise and jubilation that the Cleveland Cavaliers had three of its players crowned as worthy All-Stars. Those three are Donovan Mitchell, who was named a starter a few weeks ago, and Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, who are now joining him.
Where is Jarrett Allen?
This was something I saw floated around by many Cavaliers faithful. While it would have been nice and a cherry on the Cavaliers’ historical season sundae, it frankly was not deserved. I know writing this on a Cavaliers fan blog is worthy of stripping myself of being a “true fan” and blasphemy to the highest degree. The cold hard truth is that Jarrett Allen did not do enough to warrant a spot reserved for one of the best twelve players in the Eastern Conference this season.
Where should we begin with the case against Allen? Let’s start with those who felt Allen was snubbed with the main argument: How could Jarrett Allen not make it when the Cavaliers have the best record in the league?
Well, even though yes, Jarrett Allen is one the best players on the best team in the Eastern Conference, he simply hasn’t performed consistently enough to earn a spot over other teams’ top option.
Remember back in 2015 when the Atlanta Hawks had four All-Stars? The Hawks were also the best team in the Eastern Conference at the time. Have you since thought, man, that Kyle Korver’s season was astounding, one that will be remembered for all time? No? 12 points a game doesn’t scream All-Star? Well, how does 13.8 points and 10 rebounds per game sound?
Kenny Atkinson was a member of the coaching staff of the Hawks, so he has familiarity with the situation. When asked if he thought Allen would make it, he responded: “Yes, just because of our record. … I thought that with our historic start right? I thought it could turn out that way. You know I am a little disappointed at that.”
Allen is no doubt integral to the success of the Cavaliers but to state that because of the team’s success, it’s only right to honor Allen is a bridge too far for me. Now, you could introduce him as more deserving than say Pascal Siakam or Tyler Herro, I would say yes. That, however, is more an issue with the other players being selected than Allen being excluded. Players like Trae Young, LaMelo Ball, and Tyreese Maxey come to mind as more deserving than Allen.
It cannot also be understated that Allen hasn’t been as consistent as the stats would necessarily show. There have been stretches where Allen has been invisible on the offensive end. Despite leading the league in effective field goal percentage with 70.3%, Allen has had to be removed from closing game lineups for the Cavaliers. If your team cannot close games with an All-Star, I feel that is a pretty big detractor from the credibility of one’s case.
Remember in 2021 when Jarrett Allen was an All-Star for the overperforming Cleveland Cavaliers? Do you also remember that he was an alternate? Allen posted 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for the Eastern Conference leaders and was originally omitted from the All-Star team. Only when James Harden removed himself from the contest was Allen inserted into the mix.
Now, people are clamoring for Allen with worse stats to make an All-Star team when the Cavaliers are once again overperforming. His role is similar, the numbers are worse, and the level of impact is the same. Why is the case stronger for Allen now than it was four years ago?
Allen would have better counting stats if there weren’t so many mouths to feed on the Cavaliers. However, the All-Star game isn’t one of the hypotheticals where one can project stats if donning a different uniform or under different circumstances. It’s about looking at the stats and facts in front of you. While Allen could still make the All-Star game as an alternate, the cold hard truth is that coaches around the league agreed with me that Jarrett Allen did not play at an All-Star level this season.
Many fans were disappointed to see Brooklyn Nets center Jarrett Allen left off the roster for the 2021 NBA All-Star Game. However, when you take a closer look at his stats and performance this season, it becomes clear that he was properly excluded from the event. While Allen has proven to be a solid contributor for the Nets, averaging 12.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game, his numbers don’t quite stack up against some of the other big men in the Eastern Conference. Players like Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bam Adebayo have put up consistently strong performances and have been key players for their respective teams.
Additionally, Allen’s impact on the court may not always show up in the box score. While he is a strong defender and rim protector, his offensive game still has room for improvement. With other players in the East putting up more impressive numbers on both ends of the court, it’s understandable why Allen was left off the All-Star roster.
In the end, while Jarrett Allen is a promising young player with a bright future ahead of him, his exclusion from the All-Star Game was the right decision based on his performance this season. Fans can look forward to seeing him continue to grow and develop as a player in the years to come.

#Jarrett #Allen #properly #excluded #AllStar #GameEx-NBA Champion believes Kyrie Irving deserved All-Star nod over Steph Curry
The NBA unveiled the “reserves” for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game on Thursday evening, finalizing the 24-man player pool. And for the first time in the 2020s, no Dallas Maverick was selected, as Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic weren’t chosen by the NBA coaches, despite both finishing in the top six of Western Conference guard voting.
Doncic’s exclusion wasn’t a surprise; he’s been hurt since Christmas Day with a calf strain and has played in just 22 of Dallas’ 49 games to this point. There’s no games-played requirement for the All-Star Game like there is with postseason awards, so Doncic technically could’ve been selected, but it’ll also give him another week to rest.
Irving’s exclusion was shocking to many people around the NBA, including former NBA Champion and a former teammate of Kyrie Irving, Kendrick Perkins. He had this to say on ESPN
“I look at a guy like Steph Curry making the All-Star Game this season, and I look at a lot of guys like Kyrie Irving, Devin Booker, De’Aaron Fox, just in this conference who had better seasons, or are playing better than [Curry]. I’m going to say the quiet thing out loud: Steph Curry should not be an All-Star. He shouldn’t! No matter what the fans want, no matter what the coaches want, no matter what we want to see, you still have to earn to be an All-Star by your production. And if you’re looking at the production around the league, it’s guys in the Western Conference that have better numbers than Steph, and their teams are in better positions than Steph.”

The Warriors defeated the Cavaliers 108-85 to complete a four-game sweep. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-Imagn Images / Kyle Terada-Imagn Images Comparing just Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving, Perkins has a point. Irving is averaging 24.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 4.6 APG while shooting nearly 50/40/90, while Curry is at 22.1 PPG, 6.2 APG, and 4.6 RPG, but isn’t as efficient from three or the floor as Irving is (the degree of difficulty on Curry’s threes are higher, for what it’s worth).
Irving also has the Mavericks at 26-23, sitting 9th in the Western Conference, while Curry’s Warriors are 24-24 in 11th. At the very least, it’s neck and neck, but Curry was voted as a starter, while Irving will be spending the week at home, barring an injury replacement being needed.

Former NBA champion and current analyst, Kendrick Perkins, recently voiced his opinion that Kyrie Irving deserved an All-Star nod over Steph Curry this season. Perkins argued that Irving’s performance on the court this season has been exceptional and that he has been a more impactful player for the Brooklyn Nets than Curry has been for the Golden State Warriors.Perkins praised Irving’s scoring ability, playmaking skills, and leadership on the court, emphasizing that he has been a key factor in the Nets’ success this season. He also pointed out Irving’s impressive stats, including his scoring average and shooting percentages, as evidence of his All-Star caliber performance.
While Curry is undoubtedly one of the greatest shooters in NBA history and has had a strong season as well, Perkins believes that Irving’s overall impact on the game should have earned him a spot in the All-Star game over Curry.
It’s clear that opinions on this topic may vary, but it’s interesting to hear a former NBA champion like Perkins make a case for Irving over Curry. Do you agree with his assessment? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The Miami Heat suspended Jimmy Butler again Monday, the third suspension for their disgruntled star over the past month but the one that appears to signal the end of his six-year tenure with the team.
The Heat said the latest suspension — triggered by Butler walking out of practice after hearing the team planned to bring him off the bench — will take this ongoing drama through the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 6.
The indefinite suspension all but closes a complicated chapter of Butler’s 14-year career. A six-time All-Star, an Eastern Conference finals MVP and the leader of two teams that went to the NBA Finals, Butler has taken each of his four franchises to heights they have struggled to replicate without him.
Yet Miami is seeing firsthand how uncomfortable Butler can make life when he is unhappy. His exit strategies have become legendary: confrontational practice sessions, clashes with coaches and an overall push to make the situation untenable. Butler already had missed nine of Miami’s past 12 games with suspensions, the first being seven games for conduct the Heat deemed detrimental and the next for two games for missing a team flight to Milwaukee last week, before his latest penalty on Monday.
If Butler has played his final game for the Heat, then it’s a chance to take a look back at the veteran’s tumultuous NBA career and how each situation devolved from promising potential to painful breakup.
Chicago Bulls (2011 to 2017)
-
October 2014: Butler turned down a reported four-year, $40 million offer from the Bulls following a career year. He believed he could make more after the following season.
-
2014-16: During his rise with the Bulls, Butler ran into issues with veterans Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Both were traded following the 2015-16 season.
-
July 9, 2015: After turning down an extension the previous season, Butler signed a five-year, $90 million max contract.
-
Dec. 20, 2015: Following a loss, Butler criticized new coach Fred Hoiberg. “You got to hold everyone accountable; everybody has to do their job,” Butler said.
-
January 2017: With tension in the locker room growing, Rajon Rondo stood up for the younger Bulls players in a meeting. The rift led to fines for Butler, Rondo and Dwyane Wade after their remarks went public.
-
June 22, 2017: Butler was traded to Minnesota for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the No. 7 pick in the 2017 draft after a drama-filled season in Chicago.
Butler arrived in Chicago as the 30th pick in the 2011 draft, but quickly ascended up the depth chart.
He did not play much as a rookie, but by his third season, he developed into a consistent starter, carrying the team while Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah were sidelined by injuries. By Year 4, Butler made his first All-Star team and ushered the Bulls into a new era, shifting from a team led by Noah and Rose into one centered on its emerging superstar. And Butler was intent on putting his stamp on the franchise, demanding the same dedication it took for him to rise from the end of the bench to star player at all levels.
The Bulls hired Fred Hoiberg as coach in 2015 and he immediately clashed with Butler, who signed a new five-year max contract. By December, Butler was criticizing Hoiberg after games, saying he needed to coach harder. Butler also clashed with Noah during the 2015-16 season, which led to heated disagreements throughout the year, sources told ESPN at the time. Chicago put together the misguided three alphas of Butler, Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo for the 2016-17 season in an attempt to compete, but after a first-round playoff exit, the Bulls fielded multiple calls for Butler on draft night 2017 — the second straight year they tried to trade him at the draft — before finally sending him to Minnesota.
The deal marked the end of the Butler era in Chicago. It also sent the Bulls into a rebuild from which they haven’t recovered. Chicago has made the playoffs only once since trading Butler, when it lost in the first round in 2022 against the Milwaukee Bucks in five games.
Minnesota Timberwolves (2017 to 2019)
-
Sept. 20, 2018: Ahead of the 2018-19 season, Butler requested a trade from Minnesota.
-
Oct. 10, 2018: In his first practice since requesting a trade, Butler yelled at Minnesota general manager Scott Layden as the team scrimmaged. “You f—king need me, Scott. You can’t win without me,” Butler said. He played with bench players during the practice and famously beat the starters and “regulars” throughout the scrimmages.
-
Oct. 10, 2018: Later that day, Butler sat down with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols to discuss the heated practice and his future with the franchise.
-
Nov. 10, 2018: A month later, the Wolves agreed to trade Butler to Philadelphia for Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round pick.
Butler’s trade from Chicago reunited him with his former Tom Thibodeau. Butler’s first season in Minnesota was a success, as he made the All-Star team for the fourth consecutive year and led the Wolves to the postseason, breaking a 13-year drought of playoff basketball. However, Butler missed 17 games late in the season, and the Timberwolves tumbled from fourth in the standings to eighth. They were quickly dispatched by the top-seeded Houston Rockets. The following summer, Butler and the Wolves were not able to reach a contract extension, leading to trade rumors that began swirling by the start of training camp.
Butler missed the first two weeks of camp after requesting a trade, and when he returned, he unleashed his frustration on the rest of the team in a now-famous practice session. He dominated his teammates on the court and yelled at them off it, targeting his ire at Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, Thibodeau and then-Wolves GM Scott Layden, whom Butler told, “You f—ing need me.”
And yet, Butler was in the starting lineup for the Wolves when they opened the regular season, though his tenure in Minnesota was all but over. After a two-month saga, Butler played 10 games for the Wolves to begin the 2018-19 season before being sent to Philadelphia in November.
Philadelphia 76ers (2018-19)
The Sixers, with their trio of Joel Embiid, reigning Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons and Butler, were positioned right away to be a contender in the Eastern Conference and provide a payoff to fans who had just lived through “The Process” rebuilding years. Though Butler wasn’t eligible to sign an extension immediately, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported at the time that the forward and the Sixers fully expected to reach a deal on a long-term contract in the summer. But six weeks into Butler’s tenure, he “aggressively challenged” coach Brett Brown during a film session, leading to another rift. Butler would go on to criticize Brown’s playcalling and put him on blast often in front of the media throughout the season.
Butler played in only 55 games for the Sixers, but he provided highlights, game winners and fourth-quarter takeovers that seemed to prove his point to Brown that more of the offense should be centered around him. Butler was brilliant in the postseason, especially during a thrilling seven-game, second-round series loss against the eventual NBA champion Toronto Raptors.
Butler was eligible to sign a five-year, $190 million deal with the 76ers in the offseason, but the team elected instead to bet on Tobias Harris, who had been acquired from the LA Clippers in a trade two months after Butler arrived in Philadelphia. The Sixers facilitated a sign-and-trade deal to send him to Miami while bringing Josh Richardson to Philadelphia, though the shooting guard lasted just a season there before being shipped to Dallas. Brown was fired as coach after the following season, and Philadelphia still hasn’t made it beyond the second round of the playoffs since 2001.
Three years later Butler exclaimed “Tobias Harris over me?!” after the Heat defeated the 76ers in the playoffs.
Miami Heat (2019 to present)
-
March 23, 2022: Jimmy Butler, Udonis Haslem and head coach Erik Spoelstra got into a heated argument during a timeout in a close game against the Golden State Warriors. Haslem and Butler were shouting at each other, and Spoelstra slammed a clipboard on the floor in frustration. The Heat went on to lose their fourth game in seven matchups.
-
May 6, 2024: During an end-of-season news conference, team president Pat Riley addressed some of Butler’s on- and off-court antics surrounding the playoffs. Butler sprained a knee in the play-in tournament and did not play in the first round of the playoffs. When asked about Butler’s behavior, Riley said, “If you’re not on the court playing against Boston, or on the court playing against the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut.”
-
June 26, 2024: Butler and the Heat failed to agree to an extension ahead of the 2024-25 season.
-
Dec. 10, 2024: The Heat said they were open to potential trades for Butler.
-
Dec. 26, 2024: After ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Butler preferred a trade out of Miami, Riley announced in a statement, “We are not trading Jimmy Butler.“
-
Dec. 31, 2024: When asked if he wants to be in Miami, Butler responded simply, “That’s a good question.“
-
Jan. 2, 2025: Butler indicated to the Heat that he would like to be traded. “I want to see me getting my joy back playing basketball. Wherever that may be, we’ll find out here pretty soon,” Butler said.
-
Jan. 14, 2025: In a face-to-face meeting with Riley during his suspension, Butler reiterated his demand to be traded.
-
Jan. 22, 2025: Butler was again suspended, this time for two games. The latest instance was for missing a team flight.
-
Jan. 23, 2025: Following another suspension, Spoelstra told the Heat roster to “get used to” and “get over” the constant news surrounding the situation.
-
Jan. 27, 2025: After being told he was being replaced in the starting lineup, Butler walked out of practice, leading to his third suspension of the month. He is now suspended indefinitely.
The Heat executed a four-team trade to sign Butler to a four-year contract in 2019, and it was instantly a perfect marriage of player and team. The term “Heat Culture” was born and seemed tailor-made for Butler. It was a mantra that fit Butler’s ideology as a player who had worked his way from the end of the bench to stardom, as well as the Heat’s success in turning unheralded players into playoff contributors.
The Heat went to the NBA Finals during the 2020 bubble, dragged there by Butler, who leaned over the guardrails in exhaustion during a game, an image that would become a meme. In 2021-22, Miami was the No.1 seed in the East and missed returning to the Finals by one game, when a furious comeback in the fourth quarter of Game 7 against the Boston Celtics fell just short as Butler missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with 16 seconds left. A year later, the Heat got revenge on the Celtics, holding off a 3-0 comeback to win in Game 7 in Boston and return to the Finals, this time as a No. 8 seed. Butler’s playoff performances became so iconic, the nickname Playoff Jimmy began to stick.
But Butler’s postseason performances began to stand in contrast to his regular-season production, especially as injuries kept him out of a combined 40 games during the past two seasons. Butler also missed the Heat’s entire first-round playoff loss to the Celtics in 2024 with a sprained MCL but said later during a radio interview that if he’d been healthy, the Heat would have beaten the Celtics, who went on to win the title. Heat president Pat Riley directed a comment toward Butler at his end of the season news conference, saying, “If you’re not on the court playing … you should keep your mouth shut.” Then, Riley declined to reward a maximum contract to Butler at age 35, despite the two NBA Finals appearances, again reiterating his desire for the veteran to be on the floor more often.
Butler dropped the antics he had become known for on media day — emo hair in 2023, dreadlocks the year before that — and said he wanted to focus on the season ahead. But in December, ESPN reported that Miami was open to trading Butler. When Riley issued a statement the day after Christmas that the Heat “are not trading Jimmy Butler,” it was unclear to whom the declaration was directed — the public or Butler. Meanwhile, Butler was missing in action for most of this time. He rolled an ankle Dec.20 and missed 13 days with an illness.
He returned for a back-to-back in the first two days of the new year, although Butler indicated the team accused him of not playing his hardest in the first game. After the second game, a blowout loss to the Pacers, Butler said he had lost his joy for basketball and that it could “probably not” be found in Miami.
Butler was suspended for seven games Jan. 3, a day after the rant, as Miami issued a second statement: “Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated that they wish to be traded, therefore, we will listen to offers.”
In a meeting with Riley during that suspension, Butler said he would not sign a new deal in Miami and intended to use his $52 million player option for 2025-26 only as a trade maneuver, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Jan. 14. Butler returned for three games, but then received a second suspension Jan. 22 after he missed a team flight to Milwaukee. After he sat out two more games, the team indefinitely suspended Butler on Monday. The third suspension came when the disgruntled star walked out of morning practice after the Heat told him he’d come off the bench moving forward. Now, he’ll be suspended for at least five games, which runs through the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
Jimmy Butler has had quite the tumultuous journey in the NBA, filled with drama, intense practices, and ultimately earning himself six All-Star Game appearances.Butler’s career started with the Chicago Bulls, where he quickly made a name for himself as a hard-nosed defender and reliable scorer. However, his time in Chicago was not without its controversies, as Butler clashed with teammates and coaches, leading to a reputation for being difficult to work with.
Things came to a head in 2017 when Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite leading the team to its first playoff appearance in 14 years, Butler’s tenure in Minnesota was marked by tension and dysfunction. He famously called out his younger teammates for their lack of effort and commitment, leading to a stormy practice where he reportedly dominated the court and verbally challenged his teammates.
Butler’s next stop was the Philadelphia 76ers, where he helped lead the team to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Despite his brief stint in Philly, Butler continued to make waves with his demanding leadership style and high expectations for his teammates.
In 2019, Butler joined the Miami Heat and found a home where his intensity and work ethic were embraced. He led the Heat to the NBA Finals in his first season with the team and earned his sixth All-Star Game appearance.
Throughout his career, Jimmy Butler has been a polarizing figure, known for his competitiveness and drive to win at all costs. While his journey has been filled with ups and downs, one thing is certain – Jimmy Butler’s impact on the court is undeniable.

Spurs’ Wembanyama leads NBA All-Star Game reserves
Victor Wembanyama was named to his first All-Star team Thursday night, one of 14 reserves selected to this year’s midseason showcase in San Francisco on Feb. 16.
Wembanyama, who turned 21 earlier this month, is averaging 24.4 points and 10.8 rebounds for the San Antonio Spurs in his second NBA season and is leading the league in blocks for a second straight year.
After narrowly missing out on one of the spots in the starting lineup for the Western Conference behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Wembanyama was an easy choice to lead the West reserves. The seven reserves in each conference were selected by a vote by the league’s coaches after a combination of fans, media and players determined the five starters in each conference.
Joining Wembanyama from the Western Conference were Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis, LA Clippers guard James Harden, Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr., Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams.
It was the 11th selection for Harden, as well as the 10th for Davis, followed by the third for Edwards and second for Jackson. It was the first selection for Wembanyama, Sengun and Williams.
The Eastern Conference reserves consisted of Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and forward Evan Mobley, Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard and Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro.
Lillard made it for the ninth time, while it was the fourth for Brown, the third for Siakam and the second for Garland. Mobley, Cunningham and Herro were first-time selections.
The Cavaliers — with Garland, Mobley and starter Donovan Mitchell — were the only team to get three players onto this year’s rosters. The Celtics (Brown and Jayson Tatum), Lakers (Davis and James), Thunder (Williams and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) and New York Knicks (Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns) each had two.
The coaches for this year’s All-Star Game will be Mark Daigneault from the Thunder and Kenny Atkinson from the Cavaliers. Because of the change in format this season, which has the 24 All-Stars broken up into three teams of eight-man rosters — plus the winning team from the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night — one assistant coach from the Thunder and one from the Cavaliers will coach two of the teams.
In a stunning turn of events, young phenom Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs has been named as a reserve for the NBA All-Star Game. At just 19 years old, Wembanyama has taken the league by storm with his impressive play on both ends of the court.Standing at an imposing 7’2″ with a 7’9″ wingspan, Wembanyama has quickly become one of the most dominant forces in the league. His shot-blocking ability, rebounding prowess, and offensive skills have made him a standout player in his rookie season.
Wembanyama’s selection as an All-Star reserve comes as no surprise to many in the basketball world, as he has been putting up eye-popping numbers all season long. Fact or Fiction: Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game
Each week during the 2024-25 NBA season, we will take a deeper dive into some of the league’s biggest storylines in an attempt to determine whether trends are based more in fact or fiction moving forward.
Fact or Fiction: Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub
What is a snub? A snub is a guy that can’t get no love from … the voting panel for the NBA All-Star Game.
Maybe a handful of you understood that joke. But it is true. I did not envy the voters this season. The league is as rich with talent as it has ever been. Someone was bound to get snubbed. Multiple players.
The NBA on Thursday announced its All-Star reserves (selected by the coaches), completing the 24-player field for this year’s All-Star Game in San Francisco, so long as (fingers crossed) nobody gets injured between now and Feb. 16. Here are the rosters (* = starter):
And sure enough: There are some snubs. But remember:
Again, we know the rule:
If you’re telling me who got snubbed, who shouldn’t be an All-Star?
— Vincent Goodwill (@VinceGoodwill) January 30, 2025
When we are determining The Biggest Snub, we have to kick someone out. Sorry, James Harden.
Hear me out. (But a disclaimer first: Games played matter, so apologies to Paolo Banchero, Luka Dončić, Joel Embiid, Ja Morant and Franz Wagner, among others who did not play enough to earn consideration.)
The Biggest Snub has to come from the West. There are too many good players in the conference. Herro would not have sniffed a selection on a .500 team from the West. He should not have even made it over Trae Young in the Eastern Conference, but if we are looking for the most talented non-All-Star this season — The Biggest Snub — he is in the West. He did not fail to make an All-Star team over Tyler Herro.
He failed to make one over Harden, who is having a great season for a Los Angeles Clippers team that has exceeded expectations. He also may not be the most valuable member of his own team. Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac are, at the very least, as impactful, as is a healthy Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers are in sixth place because of a defense that is ranked second in the NBA despite the presence of Harden; not because of a bottom-10 offense.
(Stefan Milic/Yahoo Sports Illustration) Harden’s raw numbers — 21.7 points, 8.4 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game — are impressive, though he is shooting 40% from the field and below league average from 3 (35.2%). His 203 turnovers lead the NBA.
I do not like making a case against anyone, but these are the rules, and it is a good one against Harden.
Now for the reveal: This year’s The Biggest Snub is not LaMelo Ball or Devin Booker or Tyrese Maxey. It is Domantas Sabonis, spawn of Arvydas, King of The Nail.
It was between him and Kyrie Irving.
-
Sabonis: 20.9 PTS (61/48/77), 14.5 REB, 6.6 AST (3.1 TO), 0.6 STL, 0.4 BLK; 68.0 TS%, 24.1 PER
-
Irving: 24.2 PTS (48/42/90), 4.9 AST (2.3 TO), 4.6 REB, 1.2 STL, 0.3 BLK; 60.0 TS%, 19.8 PER
-
Harden: 21.7 PTS (40/35/89), 8.4 AST (4.6 TO), 5.8 REB, 1.5 STL, 0.6 BLK; 57.3 TS%, 19.1 PER
Would you look at that? Sabonis is the most efficient scorer of the three, leads the NBA in rebounding and averages more assists per game than Irving (with a higher assist-to-turnover ratio than Harden).
Here is who has averaged a 21-14-6 in NBA history: Wilt Chamberlain. That is it.
What else do you really have to say? Sabonis has also played more than both of them this season. And when he is on the court, the Kings are 14.9 points per 100 meaningful possessions better, according to Cleaning the Glass — the league’s fourth-best on/off rating among players who have logged at least 1,000 minutes, trailing only Jokić, Wembanyama and Chris Paul (who has played more than three-quarters of his minutes with Wemby).
Sacramento has the equivalent of a top-five offense when Sabonis is on the floor and a bottom-two offense when he is on the bench, and the team’s offensive rating has settled into seventh in the league.
By contrast the Mavericks are 3.8 points per 100 possessions better when Irving is on the floor, and the Clippers are 4.8 points per 100 possessions better when Harden is on the court. Add those on/off ratings together, and you are still searching for as much impact as Sabonis.
I am not here to say Sabonis’ game is the most compelling for an All-Star audience, but who wants to see another Harden step-back 3 when Sabonis is converting his triples at the league’s second-best clip? Plus, he will pass and rebound better than anyone. He won’t steal the show, but he belongs in it. What are we doing here? The answer is obvious.
Determination: Fact. Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
Fact or Fiction: Domantas Sabonis is The Biggest Snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star GameWith the rosters for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game recently announced, many fans and analysts were quick to point out one glaring omission – Domantas Sabonis. The Indiana Pacers forward has been putting up impressive numbers all season long, averaging a double-double and showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court.
Sabonis has been a key player for the Pacers, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. His ability to score in the paint, crash the boards, and facilitate for his teammates has made him a standout player in the league. Despite his stellar performance, Sabonis was left off the All-Star roster, leading many to believe that he was the biggest snub of the game.
So, is it a fact or fiction that Domantas Sabonis is the biggest snub of the 2025 NBA All-Star Game? While it’s certainly a subjective topic, the numbers don’t lie – Sabonis has been playing at an All-Star level this season. His absence from the roster is a tough pill to swallow for Pacers fans and Sabonis supporters alike, but ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the coaches and fans who vote for the All-Star reserves.
Whether you believe Sabonis was snubbed or not, one thing is for certain – he will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the NBA and will use this perceived snub as motivation to elevate his game even further.

Sixers’ Nick Nurse reacts to 2025 All-Star snub of Tyrese Maxey
PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are sitting at 19-27 and have dealt with a slew of injuries throughout the season. Joel Embiid has played only 13 games while they have tried to work Paul George into things as they try and remain title contenders in the East.
Tyrese Maxey has had to take on much more responsibility and is averaging 27.1 points, 6.0 assists, and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 43.8% from the floor and 33.7% from deep. He also was averaging 1.9 steals per game.
Alas, Maxey was not named an All-Star when the Eastern Conference reserves for 2025 were revealed. The guards who were named over him were the likes of Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland, and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons.
“I’m disappointed,” coach Nick Nurse said on Friday. “I thought he’d be in it, but also the guys that made it are, obviously, having good seasons and the guys that didn’t as well. Not easy to make it. Again, a lot of weight put to where you are in the standings as well, obviously, but I feel like he’s playing at an All-Star level.”
Maxey was named an All-Star for the first time in 2024 and will be looking to try again in the 2025-26 season.
This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Sixers’ Nick Nurse reacts to 2025 All-Star snub of Tyrese Maxey
In a recent interview, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse expressed his disappointment over the snub of Tyrese Maxey from the 2025 All-Star game. Despite Maxey’s impressive performance this season, averaging over 20 points per game and leading the Sixers to a top seed in the Eastern Conference, he was not selected as an All-Star.Nurse emphasized Maxey’s impact on the team, stating that he has been a key player in their success and deserves to be recognized for his hard work and dedication. He also mentioned that Maxey’s versatility and scoring ability make him a valuable asset to the team, and he believes that he should have been given the opportunity to showcase his skills on the All-Star stage.
Although disappointed, Nurse remains confident that Maxey will continue to prove himself and earn his spot in future All-Star games. He urged fans to continue supporting Maxey and the Sixers as they strive for success in the playoffs and beyond. #TyreseMaxey #NBAAllStar #Sixers #NickNurse

Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker addresses NBA All-Star snub
SAN FRANCISCO – Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker sees his NBA All-Star snub a couple of ways.
“Obviously something I wanted to be a part of, but I’m definitely not going to complain about taking a week to regroup with the family,” Booker said after Friday’s morning shootaround at Chase Center before facing Golden State. “It’s always going to be a conversation every year, who got snubbed and who didn’t. There were a lot of people that were deserving.”
A four-time All-Star, Booker wasn’t selected for the Feb. 16 game at Chase Center despite being one of only two players in the Western Conference in the top 15 in the NBA in scoring and assists.
The other? Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.
“Book is one of the great two guards in our league right now,” Suns coach Mike Budenholzer said Wednesday. “What he’s done this season as a scorer, as a playmaker, as a leader.”
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
The NBA head coaches select the seven reserves for the Eastern and Western Conference. Booker is averaging 25.5 points and 6.7 assists in 41 games.
“He’s clearly in our minds an All-Star,” he added. “Hopefully the other coaches see and respect what he’s done this season. It’s never easy, but that guy, he’s one of the best players in our league. I don’t see how he’s not an All-Star.”
Booker said the Suns (24-22) “have bigger things to worry about” heading into and coming out of the All-Star break. Phoenix currently is ninth in the West.
“We’re figuring out playing the right way consistently and stacking some wins,” Booker said.
The NBA head coaches select two guards, three frontcourt players and two wild cards regardless of position for the seven All-Star reserves from each conference.
The seven West reserves consist of two guards in Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves) and James Harden (LA Clippers) and five frontcourt players in Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), Alperen Sengun (Houston Rockets), Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs) and Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder).
So, the coaches filled the two wildcard spots with frontcourt players.
“It’s just tough, man,” Booker said. “There are so many talented players in the league now. You could build a case for probably three or four guys on each side that have a legitimate case of being an All-Star.”
Suns All-Star Kevin Durant believes the rosters should have 15 players representing each conference.
“When I’m playing NBA2K, they give you the option,” Durant said about adding players to the All-Star team on the video game.
“I chose that every time. It should be 15 guys to a team. We have 15 on the roster,” he said, referring to NBA regular team rosters during the season. “It should be 15 guys, 30 guys that make the game, in my opinion. What is it, 12 now? I think we can add three more spots for each team. So many great players going out there impacting their team in a positive way that are being snubbed. They’ll always be snubs every year, but I think we should add three more.”
Booker is open to that idea, saying Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving, Los Angeles Clippers guard Norman Powell, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball are deserving of All-Star recognition.
“I think there are enough talented guys out here, like I said, that are deserving,” Booker said. “You look at Kyrie, Norman Powell, those guys are having unbelievable, efficient years, and winning games. On the East, I’m sure there are guys too like Trae and LaMelo that are putting up just unheard numbers. The more talent in there, the better.”
Young took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to address his All-Star snub with a bit of humor.
“It’s no longer getting “snubbed” it’s getting “Traed” at this point,” Young posted. “Sorry to my fans.. it’ll change eventually! All right, talk soon!”
The fans, current players and a media panel chose the All-Star starters. The fans make up 50% of the vote, while the players and media each have 25% of the vote.
Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, Durant and Jokic were named the West starters.
Traditionally, the East All-Stars have battled the West All-Stars to complete the weekend celebration of the league. The All-Star game has recently lost its luster and has been criticized for lacking competitiveness as the teams are setting unreal scoring records.
The East won last year, 211-186, in Indianapolis, as Karl-Anthony Towns scored 50 points in 28 minutes. The East’s 211 points are the most scored by a winning team in the game’s 73-year history.
Jayson Tatum set the individual scoring record with 55 in the 2023 All-Star game in Salt Lake City.
The NBA decided to change the All-Star game format this year with a four-team mini-tournament in which TNT’s Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal will have a draft and select three eight-man teams from the 24 All-Stars. The Rising Stars champion from Friday will be the fourth team.
The change eliminates having the East facing the West.
That leads to the following question: Should the NBA just vote for 24 players, or more, regardless of conference, to get the best players in the All-Star game?
“That’s an idea,” said Booker with a laugh. “I’ll leave that up to the people that are controlling it. Whatever it does to get it back to how the All-Star game used to be and how people saw it at that moment and that weekend, anything to keep the business high.”
