NBA All-Star snubs: Trae Young, Domantas Sabonis, LaMelo Ball miss the cut for 2025
The NBA always has more stars than All-Star spots and that was once again clear when the league revealed the full rosters of the 2025 All-Star Game on Thursday.
Among those to make the cut are first-timer Victor Wembanyama and 21st-timer LeBron James. Six teams had multiple selections, while only two teams above .500 — the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings — had none. The game is once again stacked with recognizable talent, but there were plenty more players beyond the 24 players selected.
That includes the NBA’s leaders in assists, rebounds and one of the leaders in East All-Star fan votes.
Here are the most notable names to miss out on the honor, though let’s make something abundantly clear: These are not snubs in the sense that these guys are clearly more deserving than someone who made the cut. We’re just talking about guys who at least seemed worthy in a league with more All-Star-worthy players than spots.
At least one of those who weren’t selected might also hear their name called soon, depending on how serious Anthony Davis’ injury is. The 2025 All-Star Game is scheduled for Feb. 16 in San Francisco.
2025 NBA All-Star snubs
Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
No player has averaged more assists per game than Young’s 9.7 since his NBA debut, a span of time in which he has averaged 25.2 points per game (12th in the NBA). That certainly sounds like a perennial All-Star, but Young has now missed out on the game for the fourth time in his seven-year career.
Young currently leads the NBA in assists per game with a career-high 11.4, but his lack of efficiency (40.2% shooting, 34.2% from deep, 4.7 turnovers per game) and the Hawks’ lack of success (22-25 record, ninth in the East) once again left him off the roster.
Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento Kings
Sabonis has played 44 games this season. He has recorded a double-double in 42 of them. For a third straight year, he is leading the NBA in rebounding with 14.5 per game. The Kings have taken a step back this year, as evidenced by the firing of head coach Mike Brown, but Sabonis is a three-time All-Star playing as well as he ever has.
This is the guy who probably gets the call if Davis can’t make it to San Francisco.
LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets
Take Young’s case then add some scoring and social media followers and remove some passing and team wins, and you have Ball’s case. The 23-year-old has taken a step forward this year with 28.2 points per game, but the Hornets have done him no favors at 12-32.
Ball led East guards in fan voting for the starter ballot, but has now missed the game all together. He is also currently dealing with an ankle sprain, so his availability for the ASG was already in question.
Norman Powell, Los Angeles Clippers
Kawhi Leonard has played nine games this season and remains on a minutes restriction. The Clippers are still 27-20, good for sixth in the West. A resurgent James Harden was recognized as a reason why with his 11th career All-Star selection, but just as important has been Powell.
The 33-year-old is starting regularly for the first time in his four-season Clippers career and is averaging a career-high 24 points per game, which leads the team. He raised eyebrows with his “addition by subtraction” comment about Paul George, but he has more than backed it up.
Franz Wagner, Orlando Magic
Had he played a few more games, Wagner would probably be preparing to suit up for his first career All-Star game. The German missed 20 games due to a torn oblique, but he was All-Star-worthy in the 28 he played.
The 6-foot-10 wing has added more facilitation to an already well-rounded game, which is a key component of one of the NBA’s top defenses. As long as he can stay healthy, he’s well on track to hear his name called for multiple All-Star Games down the line.
Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns
The Suns remain a bit of a mess, but Booker ain’t the problem. Just like when Phoenix was winning 50-plus games per season, Booker is scoring at a high clip while chipping in more than his fair share of assists.
The NBA has made pretty clear it doesn’t think much of big numbers on bad teams, but that doesn’t really hold with Booker, whose Suns are still 24-22, thanks to primarily him and Kevin Durant.
Jarrett Allen, Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers already had three All-Stars with Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley. There is an argument they deserved a fourth, prime Golden State Warriors-style. Allen is the team’s defensive stalwart, Cleveland’s leading rebounder and the East’s leader in effective field-goal percentage at .703.
It’s hard to make an All-Star Game when you’re averaging fewer than 15 points per game, but Allen is the type of player who can still make a case.
Honorable mentions: Who got snubbed from the NBA All-Star snubs?
-
Nikola Vučević, Chicago Bulls
-
Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls
-
Kyrie Irving, Mavericks
-
Scottie Barnes, Toronto Raptors
-
Jalen Johnson, Atlanta Hawks
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is just around the corner, and as always, there are bound to be some notable snubs when it comes to selecting the best players in the league. This year, some of the biggest names left off the All-Star roster include Trae Young, Domantas Sabonis, and LaMelo Ball.Trae Young, the dynamic point guard for the Atlanta Hawks, has been putting up impressive numbers all season long. Averaging over 25 points and 10 assists per game, Young has been a key player in leading the Hawks to a solid record in the Eastern Conference. Despite his stellar play, Young was surprisingly left off the All-Star roster this year.
Domantas Sabonis, the versatile big man for the Indiana Pacers, has also been overlooked for the All-Star Game. Sabonis is averaging a double-double this season with over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. His ability to score inside and out, as well as facilitate for his teammates, has been instrumental in the Pacers’ success this season.
Lastly, LaMelo Ball, the rising star guard for the Charlotte Hornets, has also been snubbed for the All-Star Game. Ball has been a breakout player this season, showcasing his playmaking ability and scoring prowess. With impressive stats and highlight-reel plays, many fans and analysts were shocked to see Ball left off the All-Star roster.
While these three players have been left off the All-Star roster this year, there is no doubt that they will continue to prove their worth and make their mark in the league. As the season progresses, they will have plenty of opportunities to showcase their talents and make a case for future All-Star selections. In the meantime, fans can only hope that these snubs will fuel their fire and motivate them to come back even stronger next season.

VFL Dalton Knecht Named to All-Star Weekend Rising Stars Challenge Pool
Dalton Knecht. Photo via Los Angeles Lakers on X (Twitter) Former Tennessee wing and current Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht has been named to the player pool for the 2025 NBA Rising Stars Challenge
The Rising Stars Challenge will take place on the Friday before the NBA All-Star game as four teams comprised of the league’s best young talent will compete in a mini-tournament. Three of the teams will be made up of rookies and sophomores from the league while the fourth team is made up of G-League Players.
The winner of the mini-tournament will then move on to All-Star Sunday.
Rather than the traditional East vs West format, the NBA is turning to another mini-tournament with its biggest stars. The NBA will have 24 traditional All-Star selections who will be split up into three teams. The fourth team in the mini-tournament on Sunday will be the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge mini-tournament.
WNBA legend and former Lady Vols great Candace Parker will serve as the honorary GM for the Rising Stars Challenge winner.
It may be a little confusing for some, so let’s look at it from strictly a Dalton Knecht perspective.
Knecht is one of 25 players available to be drafted in the Rising Stars Challenge and will be selected to a team for the RSC mini-tournament. Two of Knecht’s opponents will be teams consisting of first- and second-year NBA players while the third is made up of G-League players.
Let’s say Knecht’s team wins the Rising Stars Challenge event on Friday night. His group, “Team Candace” as it will be called, will then move on to Sunday to be one of the four teams in the All-Star Game tournament.
Each of the four teams will play one knockout game on Sunday to determine which two teams will advance to the final game on Sunday night. The games will be a “first to 40” scoring format.
Here’s Ernie Johnson to explain how things will work:
More from RTI: Zakai Zeigler Enters SEC Record Book During Loss to Kentucky
Back to the former Tennessee star, though.
Knecht is one of 10 NBA rookies to be selected for the 25-person player pool. There are several former SEC names that Tennessee fans might be familiar with including Trayce Jackson-Davis (brother of former Vol QB Tayven Jackson), Brandon Miller (Alabama), Cason Wallace (Kentucky), and Reed Sheppard (Kentucky).
“It means a lot, it’s a good accomplishment,” Knecht said about the selection via Lakers Nation. “At the same time, it’s just the Rising Stars game. I’m more focused on the season than anything.”
Through 45 games this season, Knecht is averaging 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 20.9 minutes per game for the 26-19 Lakers. The former Vol has been fairly up and down this season but still provides a spark. In the last week alone, Knecht has games of just two and three points in addition to games of 13 points, 13 points, and 24 points.
The 2025 Rising Stars Challenge will take place at 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 14, from the Chase Center.
With Tennessee basketball suffering back-to-back losses against Auburn and Kentucky this week, treat yourself with a few highlights from Knecht’s incredible season at Tennessee last year:
VFL Dalton Knecht Named to All-Star Weekend Rising Stars Challenge PoolExciting news for University of Tennessee football fans as former Volunteer linebacker Dalton Knecht has been named to the pool of players for the NBA All-Star Weekend Rising Stars Challenge. Knecht, who had a standout career at Tennessee, is now making waves in the NBA and is being recognized as one of the top young talents in the league.
Knecht’s selection to the Rising Stars Challenge pool is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft. After a successful college career, Knecht has continued to impress on the professional level, earning a spot among the best young players in the NBA.
Fans of the Vols will surely be tuning in to watch Knecht showcase his skills on the big stage during All-Star Weekend. It’s a proud moment for the University of Tennessee and a reminder of the talent that comes out of Knoxville.
Congratulations to Dalton Knecht on this well-deserved honor, and best of luck in the Rising Stars Challenge! Go Vols!

The 2025 All-Star reserves were announced tonight and Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young was not among the ones who were selected. Young is the league leader in assists, averaging 11.4 APG and this would have been his fourth appearance in the All-Star game and would have been the first year that Young had made consecutive All-Star games. He also leads the league in assist percentage (an estimate of the percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted while on the floor). He has been one of the top shot-creators and playmakers in the league this season, but he is not going to be participating in the 2025 All-Star Game.
The Eastern Conference All Star Reserves were Cade Cunningham, Damian Lillard, Tyler Herro, Evan Mobley, Pascal Siakam, Darius Garland, and Jaylen Brown.
There is going to be a new All-Star Game Format this year.
For the first time, the NBA All-Star Game will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. Two teams will meet in one semifinal (Game 1), and the remaining two teams will meet in the other semifinal (Game 2). The winning teams from Game 1 and Game 2 will advance to face each other in the championship (Game 3). For each game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points.
Garland and Young are getting set to face off tonight in Cleveland.
For those that may not know, the Atlanta Hawks are 2-0 this season against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the top team in the Eastern Conference. If they want to move to 3-0 however, it is going to take quite the effort. Atlanta continues to be shorthanded when it comes to their available roster and will be without Jalen Johnson, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Clint Capela. Atlanta comes into this game on a six game losing streak but they hope they can reverse that and finally get their offense back on track after some poor shooting performances.
One of the few good things to come out of this losing streak is that their defense is starting to find an identity and play with some consistency, which should not be overlooked. Can it play well enough tonight vs the best offense in the NBA? It might have to lead the way if the Hawks have a chance against the Cavs.
Coming into tonight’s game, the Hawks are 11th in the NBA in PPG, 18th in FG%, 14th in 3PA, 26th in 3P%, 3rd in FTA, 27th in turnovers, and 7th in rebounding. Per Cleaning the Glass, Atlanta is 22nd in points per 100 possessions, 22nd in effective field goal percentage, 20th in turnover percentage, 9th in offensive rebounding percentage, and 7th in free throw rate.
Currently, the Hawks rank 27th in PPG allowed, 25th in field goal percentage allowed, 23rd in three-point attempts allowed, and 28th in three-point percentage allowed. Per Cleaning the Glass, Atlanta is 14th in points allowed per 100 possessions and 27th in effective field goal percentage allowed.
Cleveland comes into this game ranking 2nd in PPG, 2nd in FG%, 4th in 3PA, 1st in 3P%, 23rd in FTA, 16th in rebounding, and 4th in TO. Per Cleaning the Glass, the Cavs rank 1st in points per 100 possessions, 1st in effective field goal percentage, 3rd in turnover percentage, 21st in offensive rebounding percentage, and 23rd in free throw rate.
Defensively, the Cavs are not as elite as they have been in the past, but they are not bad. They rank 11th in PPG allowed, 10th in FG% allowed, 7th in 3PA allowed, and 24th in 3P% allowed. Per Cleaning the Glass, Cleveland is 9th in points allowed per 100 possessions and 10th in EFG% allowed.

The Atlanta Hawks’ star point guard Trae Young has been shockingly snubbed from the 2025 NBA All-Star Game roster. Despite putting up impressive numbers and leading his team to a solid record this season, Young was left off the list of reserves for the highly anticipated event. Many fans and analysts alike are scratching their heads at this decision, as Young has been a standout player in the league for several seasons now. His incredible shooting ability, court vision, and playmaking skills have made him a fan favorite and a top contender for an All-Star spot.
It’s unclear what the reasoning behind this snub may be, but one thing is for certain – Trae Young will use this as motivation to continue to prove himself as one of the best point guards in the NBA. With his determination and skillset, there’s no doubt that Young will bounce back even stronger and make a statement in the second half of the season.
Fans of the Atlanta Hawks and Trae Young are surely disappointed by this news, but they can take solace in the fact that their young star will be extra motivated to show the league what he’s truly capable of. Let’s hope this snub lights a fire under Trae Young and propels him to even greater heights in the future.

The Hawks guard has averaged 22.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 11.4 assists per game.
With his focus shifted on getting his teammates more involved, Young’s shooting efficiency dipped. But Young has hit some big shots, including a half-court game-winner against the Jazz earlier this month.

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young was left off the list of reserves for the upcoming NBA All-Star game, sparking controversy and outrage among fans and analysts alike.Young, who is currently averaging over 27 points and 9 assists per game, has been a standout performer for the Hawks this season. Many believed he had done enough to earn a spot on the All-Star team, but he was ultimately overlooked in favor of other players.
The snub has left many questioning the selection process and wondering how such a talented player could be left out of the All-Star game. Young himself expressed disappointment, but vowed to continue working hard and proving his worth on the court.
It remains to be seen whether Young will be added to the All-Star roster as an injury replacement, but for now, the snub serves as a reminder of the fierce competition and tough decisions that come with All-Star selections.

Ranking the biggest NBA All-Star roster snubs: Trae Young, Kyrie Irving and more
The NBA announced its All-Star reserves Thursday night, and we now know who will represent the Eastern and Western conferences in San Francisco next month. That means we also found out which players won’t be going, barring an injury to any of the All-Stars.
A number of players had strong cases to make the All-Star team this season, and the final couple spots in each conference could have gone to a handful of players. A razor-thin margin, or even just pure preference, is what separates the All-Stars from the snubs.
So, who were those All-Star snubs? Here’s our list, in order of biggest to smallest. (All stats and records are as of the afternoon of Jan. 30.)
Kyrie Irving, G, Dallas Mavericks
Stats: 24.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 48.2 percent from the field, 42.2 percent from 3 on 7.0 attempts per game.
Irving has been a ballast for the injury-riddled Mavericks this year as they hang tough in the brutal West. They’ve only received 22 games from Luka Dončić and 32 from center Dereck Lively II, yet they’re 26-22 and eighth in the conference. Irving has driven the Mavericks’ offense, and while his overall numbers are down from his peak (or even last season), he’s supplied reliable production for a Dallas team often starved of top options. He’s shooting the 3 at a career-high 42.2 percent, and Dallas is 23-15 when he plays.
There are a lot of guards in the West who had a case to make the team, but it’s still hard to understand why Irving didn’t make it this season, especially as his experience as a multi-time All-Star likely would have given him a tiebreaker over the competition.
Tyrese Maxey, G, Philadelphia 76ers
Stats: 27.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 43.6 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3 on 9.7 attempts per game.
Maxey might be the only good thing about the Sixers season so far, save for those 23 games they got from Jared McCain. Maxey is scoring more than he did as a breakout All-Star last season — his 27.1 points per game is tied for fifth in the NBA — though with worse shooting numbers. That could be attributed to him handling a much larger load for the Sixers this season with the injuries to Joel Embiid and Paul George. Philadelphia is averaging 9.9 points more per 100 possessions when Maxey is on the court than when he sits.
Despite Embiid missing most of the season and George missing 15 games while not being the player the Sixers were expecting when in the lineup, Philadelphia is a game out of the Play-In Tournament, and its playoff hopes have not been extinguished. They have Maxey to thank for that.
Domantas Sabonis, F, Sacramento Kings
Stats: 21.0 points, 14.6 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 60.9 percent from the field, 48.1 percent from 3 on 2.4 attempts per game.
Sabonis has been a prototypical snub since he got to Sacramento four years ago. He puts up huge numbers for a team outside of title contention and sometimes gets lost in the fray as a result. He’s actually made more All-NBA teams than All-Star Games in his full seasons with the Kings.
This season, Sabonis leads the NBA in rebounding (14.6 per game), and he’s averaging 21 points and 6.5 assists. He’s a one-man transition machine, controlling the whole means of production by grabbing the board and either finishing at the other end or laying off a sweet dish. But he was also a victim to a deep West frontcourt and Kings team struggling to remain buoyant in the playoff race.
Trae Young, G, Atlanta Hawks
Stats: 22.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 11.4 assists, 40.2 percent from the field, 34.2 percent from 3 on 8.4 attempts per game
It is always strange when the league leader in a traditional statistic does not make the All-Star Game. Young doesn’t just lead the league in assists per game, but he averages 1.3 more per game than Nikola Jokić, the only other player in double digits.
Young was in a similar spot last season. He was second to Tyrese Haliburton, averaging 10.8 assists per game. Young was not initially named as a reserve, but ended up going to the event as an injury replacement. He was having a better shooting year last season. This season, he is shooting a career-worst percentage from the field and is a full percentage point below his career average from 3.
However, the Hawks were 10 games under .500 at this time last season. This season, they are just three games below, plus have an appearance in the NBA Cup semifinals on their resumé.
Young’s reputation as one of the league’s worst defenders is always going to hurt him with coaches.
Devin Booker looks to drive against Josh Hart. Neither was named an All-Star on Thursday. (Chris Coduto / Getty Images)Devin Booker, G, Phoenix Suns
Stats: 25.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 44.1 percent from the field, 34.2 percent from 3 on 7.8 attempts per game.
Booker not an All-Star? It doesn’t seem possible. But it’s true.
It’s hard to say Booker has a strong case this year, too. Yes, his per-game numbers are impressive, but he hasn’t displayed the same sort of production we’ve come to expect from Booker. His shooting numbers have tanked; his effective field goal percentage is his lowest since his third season in the NBA. The Suns have had their issues this year — they’re just 24-22 and in ninth in the West — so it’s hard to say Phoenix deserves a second All-Star this season beyond starter Kevin Durant.
Ultimately, Booker is a victim of an uncharacteristic season with some slight drop-off, strong seasons from other guards in the West and the Suns struggling to remain above .500.
Jarrett Allen, C, Cavaliers
Stats: 13.9 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 70.2 percent from the field
The Cavaliers are the best team in the East by a mile, and Allen is the only one of their core four who didn’t get an invite to the All-Star Game. His numbers aren’t a career best, though the drop-off in counting stats is also a reflection of fewer minutes. Still, he is averaging 14 and 10 and shooting 70 percent from the field for a 37-9 team. Allen helps the Cavaliers dominate in the half court on both ends for a team that has the best offense in the league and an improved defensive rating.
Josh Hart, F, New York Knicks
Stats: 13.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.5 steals, 55.5 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from the field on 3.3 attempts per game
Do the Knicks deserve a third All-Star? Maybe not just based on their record alone or their place in the East standings, but Hart has made a compelling case as a non-conventional All-Star. He’s stuffing the stat sheet and has a ridiculous 61.8 effective field goal percentage as a perimeter player. He’s also a 6-4 wing who is the Knicks’ second-best big man because of his rebounding and the chaos he causes in transition.
There’s a case to be made for OG Anunoby as the Knicks’ third-best player, which muddies Hart’s campaign for this spot. But Hart is the heart and soul of a very good, and fun, team in New York.
GO DEEPER
Knicks’ Josh Hart could do something no NBA player at his height has ever done
LaMelo Ball, G, Charlotte Hornets
Stats: 28.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 41.9 percent from the field, 33.7 percent from 3 on 12.3 attempts per game
It’s been a rough run for Ball, whose love from the fans wasn’t matched by that of his peers, the media or the coaches. He’s the fourth-leading scorer in the league but on the team with the fourth-worst record in the league. It’s hard to reward big numbers and middling efficiency on a very bad team. He’s taking an absurd 12.3 3s per game —most in the NBA — but shooting just 33.7 percent on them, and his 3.7 turnovers per game are the fifth-most in the league.
Still, Ball is having a very good season, and the top-line numbers are better than his All-Star campaign in 2022.
Other names considered (in no order): Norman Powell (LA Clippers wing), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers guard), Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls guard), Franz Wagner (Orlando Magic forward), Scottie Barnes (Toronto Raptors wing), OG Anunoby (New York Knicks wing), Jalen Green (Houston Rockets guard).

Every year, the NBA All-Star Game brings together the biggest stars in the league to showcase their skills and compete against each other. However, not every deserving player gets selected to participate in the game. This year, there were several notable snubs that left fans and players alike scratching their heads. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest All-Star roster snubs:1. Trae Young – Atlanta Hawks
Despite putting up impressive numbers this season, Trae Young was left off the All-Star roster. Young is averaging over 27 points and 9 assists per game, leading the Hawks to a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Many believe he was unfairly overlooked for a spot on the team.2. Kyrie Irving – Brooklyn Nets
Kyrie Irving is one of the most talented point guards in the league, but he was not selected as an All-Star this year. Irving is averaging nearly 28 points per game and shooting over 50% from the field, yet he was left off the roster in favor of other players.3. DeMar DeRozan – San Antonio Spurs
DeMar DeRozan has been a consistent performer for the Spurs this season, averaging over 20 points and 5 assists per game. Despite his solid numbers, DeRozan did not make the All-Star team, leaving many fans surprised and disappointed.4. Mike Conley – Utah Jazz
Mike Conley has been a key player for the Utah Jazz this season, helping lead them to the top of the Western Conference standings. Conley is averaging over 16 points and 6 assists per game, but he was left off the All-Star roster in a crowded field of talented guards.5. Malcolm Brogdon – Indiana Pacers
Malcolm Brogdon has been a bright spot for the Pacers this season, averaging over 21 points and 6 assists per game. Despite his strong play, Brogdon did not receive an All-Star nod, leaving many fans and analysts questioning the decision.Overall, the NBA All-Star Game always features some controversial snubs, and this year was no different. While these players may have been left off the roster, they are still deserving of recognition for their impressive performances so far this season.

#Ranking #biggest #NBA #AllStar #roster #snubs #Trae #Young #Kyrie #IrvingNBA News: Kawhi Leonard believes James Harden and another Clippers teammate deserve All-Star nods
Los Angeles Clippers pulled off an impressive 127-117 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, powered by stellar performances from James Harden and Norman Powell. After the game, Kawhi Leonard praised his teammates and expressed his belief that both Harden and Powell deserve spots on the NBA All-Star roster.
“[James Harden] and [Norman Powell] closing out that game was special,” Leonard said. “It was great, very special. Them taking on the challenge, getting to their spots—they made it look easy.”
Leonard went on to highlight their consistency this season: “They’ve been playing great all year. There’s a lot of politics in [All-Star selections]. I’m not sure if they’re going to give us two players, but hopefully, they do. They’ve been playing at a high level.”
James Harden delivered a game-high 40 points, along with five rebounds and nine assists. He shot 12-of-24 from the field and went a perfect 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Norman Powell contributed 33 points, six rebounds, and three steals on 11-of-23 shooting. The Clippers improved to an impressive 22-8 (.733 win percentage) this season in games where Powell scores at least 18 points.

Harden: All-Star recognition is secondary to team goals
A 10-time NBA All-Star, James Harden remains one of the league’s most respected players, but he downplayed the significance of individual accolades this season.

“It would mean a lot,” Harden said when asked about potentially earning another All-Star nod. “I think it would be my 10th or 11th. Just being one of the top 24 players in this league—I feel like I deserve it. But I’m not going to campaign for myself. I just go out there, put the work in, and it is what it is.”
Harden emphasized that team success is his primary focus: “We’re, what, top five or top six [in the standings]? [Norm] is shooting the ball at a high clip, leading our team in scoring. Somebody’s got to make it. We’ve put the work in and put ourselves in a really good position. But that’s out of our control. For us, I think we’re just focused on continuing to rack up wins because we’ve got a bigger goal than All-Star Games.”
Harden has been productive this season, averaging 21.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on 39.7% shooting from the field and 34.4% from three-point range. He’s one of only three players in the Western Conference averaging at least 20 points, five rebounds, and eight assists per game.
Powell’s case for All-Star selection
Norman Powell has been equally impactful, showcasing his offensive firepower. Powell is averaging 23.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.5 made three-pointers per game on 49% shooting from the field and 43.1% from beyond the arc. He has scored 20+ points in 28 of the 37 games he has played this NBA season.

“I think I’ve been playing at an All-Star level all season,” Powell told ClutchPoints. “Honestly, I don’t like talking about myself, but numbers don’t lie—where I’m at, what I’m averaging, what I’m doing across the board, and the efficiency that I’m playing with. I see myself as an All-Star, I want to be an All-Star, and I think I am.”
As the Clippers continue to climb in the standings, the performances of Harden and Powell remain pivotal. Whether or not both players earn All-Star nods, their impact on the Clippers’ success this season is undeniable.

He also mentioned another teammate who he believes has been playing at an All-Star level but may not receive the recognition he deserves.

The Los Angeles Clippers were projected by many to finish among the worst teams in the Western Conference this season. After it was declared that Kawhi Leonard would miss the start of the season due to injury and Paul George departed to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Clippers roster appeared to be some role players with an aging James Harden.
Entering Thursday, the Clippers are sixth seed in the Western Conference and Leonard is coming off his season-high in points in a win over the San Antonio Spurs. To add on top of the positivity for Clippers fans, Harden made franchise history this evening following the All-Star reserves being announced.

After missing the All-Star game for the last two seasons, Harden has earned his 11th career appearance and first with the Clippers. Additionally, he becomes the oldest player in franchise history at 35 years old to make the All-Star game.
As of Thursday, Harden is averaging 21.7 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds, while he has helped elevate this Clippers roster around players like Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac. In January, Harden has seen his assists average rise, with it sitting at 10.0 per game.

Clippers’ James Harden makes his 11th All-Star team – Orange County Register
James Harden didn’t need a campaign to state his case. He didn’t need sports pundits to plead as to why he belongs on the NBA All-Star roster. His résumé was convincing enough.
Harden earned his 11th nod to the NBA All-Star Game on Thursday as a Western Conference reserve, as selected by the league coaches. The game will be played Feb. 16 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Harden joins Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Anthony Davis (Lakers), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), Alperen Şengün (Houston Rockets), Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs) as the Western Conference reserves.
Clippers guard Norman Powell, who was seeking his first All-Star selection, was left off the list.
The Eastern Conference reserves are Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), Pascal Siakam (Indianapolis Pacers), Darius Garland and Evan Mobley (Cleveland Cavaliers), Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons), Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks) and Tyler Herro (Miami Heat).
“It means a lot,” Harden said last week. “Just the work that I’ve put in individually and as a team. The accomplishments and my numbers are good enough. I’ve been on the other side where I led the league in assists and didn’t make it. So, it would be an honor to me. I would love to be a part of the team.”
Even at age 35, Harden is proving he’s not ready to call it a career. Through 44 games, he is averaging 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
He reached another milestone Wednesday, passing Rod Strickland for No. 13 on the NBA’s career assists list with 11 in a 128-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
He recently joined the elite company of Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to score 40 or more points 100 times. He dropped 40 points in a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday for his 103rd 40+game.
“James is one of the smartest players I’ve ever coached,” said Bucks coach Doc Rivers, who coached Harden in Philadelphia.
Harden, though, said his accomplishments aren’t a big deal, a list that includes an NBA Most Valuable Player award (2018), being a three-time scoring champion (2018-20) and two-time assists leader (2017, 2023) and a Sixth Man of the Year award (2012).
“I just go out there and put the work in and it is what it is,” Harden said.
Powell, left off the initial All-Star reserves list despite averaging a team-high 24 points per game on 49.4% shooting, said what Harden does with a basketball is just shy of magical for the Clippers (27-20), who currently are sixth in the Western Conference.
“He’s a guy that makes a lot of stuff happen with the ball, making plays,” Powell said. “And the way teams guard us with him on the floor, with either me or him out, it gets a little difficult. But him, he’s such a ball-dominant guy that can get even better.
“We need him. What he sees on the floor, and I thought he had great leadership off the floor. He was talking to the guys, what he sees, how we can be better tonight.”

#Clippers #James #Harden #11th #AllStar #team #Orange #County #RegisterKings’ Domantas Sabonis not selected for 2025 NBA All-Star Game
SACRAMENTO — Sacramento Kings star big man Domantas Sabonis was not selected for this year’s NBA All-Star Game.
Sabonis, a three-time All-Star, is averaging 20.9 points, a league-leading 14.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists, which only trails Nuggets star Nikola Jokic among all big men.
NBA coaches select the reserves after the 10 names for the starters pool were announced last week through a combination of fan voting (50%), media voting (25%) and active player voting (25%).
San Antonio star and reigning rookie of the year Victor Wembanyama is an All-Star for the first time, one of the 14 players announced Thursday night as members of the reserve pool for the Feb. 16 event in San Francisco.
Wembanyama becomes only the fourth Spurs player to make the All-Star Game in his first or second season. The others: Alvin Robertson in 1986, David Robinson in 1990 and 1991, and Tim Duncan in 1998.
There were seven players picked Thursday from each conference. From the Eastern Conference: Boston’s Jaylen Brown, Indiana’s Pascal Siakam, Cleveland’s Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, Detroit’s Cade Cunningham, Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard — last year’s All-Star MVP — and Miami’s Tyler Herro.
From the West: Wembanyama, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Clippers’ James Harden, Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr., Houston’s Alperen Sengun and Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams.
Wembanyama, Cunningham, Mobley, Herro, Sengun and Williams are first-time All-Stars.
There will be at least 15 players who “start” at the All-Star Game this season. It’s the first year of a new All-Star format, with three games. The 24 All-Stars will be drafted into three teams of eight players apiece by TNT personalities and former NBA greats Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.
Those three teams will be entered into a four-team tournament, with the remaining squad made up of NBA rookies and second-year players from the Rising Stars event on All-Star Friday. There are two semifinal games, with the winners meeting in a championship game. The games should go quickly; the first team to reach 40 points wins.
Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault and an assistant from his staff will coach two of the teams, and Cleveland coach Kenny Atkinson and one of his assistants will lead the others.
Among the notable names who did not make it: Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball — who narrowly missed out on being picked as a starter, but didn’t have enough coach support to be a reserve — along with Atlanta’s Trae Young, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Dallas’ Kyrie Irving and the Clippers’ Norman Powell.
Despite putting up impressive numbers this season, Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings has been left off the roster for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Sabonis, who is averaging a double-double with 20.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, was seen as a strong candidate for the All-Star nod.Fans and analysts alike have expressed disappointment over Sabonis’ exclusion from the All-Star Game, with many citing his consistent performance and impact on the Kings’ success this season. Despite his snub, Sabonis remains focused on helping his team make a playoff push and continuing to prove his worth as one of the top players in the league.
While Sabonis may not be participating in the All-Star Game this year, his standout play and work ethic have not gone unnoticed. Fans can expect to see him continue to elevate his game and make a strong case for future All-Star selections.

2025 NBA All-Star Game rosters: Full squads set with Victor Wembanyama, Cade Cunningham among reserve picks

The 2025 NBA All-Star rosters have been set. After last week’s announcement of the 10 starters, Thursday brought us the 14 final selections, who will be classified as reserves at All-Star Weekend in San Francisco in February.
Of course, we should point out that the typical starter/reserve structure for All-Star selections is going to differ this year. Rather than a traditional two-team All-Star setup, four teams will play on All-Star Sunday. Three of them will be composed of the 24 All-Star selections drafted by the cast of Inside the NBA. The fourth will be the winning team from Friday’s Rising Star Challenge. Obviously, with three teams, a total of 15 players will ultimately start, but the classification of starters and reserves still matters from the perspective of honoring the 10 best players through the first half of the season.
And so, without further ado, here are our full 2024-25 All-Star rosters.

The full squads have been announced, with some surprising selections and snubs along the way.Starting for the Eastern Conference will be the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid, while the Western Conference will be led by LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Anthony Davis.
Among the reserves, one of the most exciting picks is French phenom Victor Wembanyama, who has taken the league by storm with his shot-blocking prowess and offensive skills. Joining him on the Eastern Conference bench will be rising star Cade Cunningham, who has emerged as a versatile playmaker for his team.
On the Western Conference side, the likes of Ja Morant, Devin Booker, and Jayson Tatum will be looking to make their mark in the All-Star Game, while rookies Jalen Green and Evan Mobley will be eager to showcase their talents on the big stage.
