ALMA, Mich. (WNEM) – New housing units are coming to downtown Alma.
The nine new units will be located at 311 E. Superior Street.
The long-vacant 12,111 square-foot building is being rehabilitated with a $1.1 million Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) grant, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced on Monday, Jan. 27.
“The RAP program helps us make our big cities and small towns better, more affordable places to live, work, and do business. These investments show how we’re improving quality of life for Michiganders by replacing old, abandoned buildings with new ones that give more Michiganders an affordable place to live or start or grow their own business. Let’s keep working together to lower costs for buyers and renters and reinvest in our communities,” Whitmer said.
This project will generate a total capital investment of more than $3 million to Alma’s downtown, Whitmer’s office said.
The project includes updates to the exterior façade, restoration to the original masonry, and new signage.
“This grant is a great opportunity to help provide much-needed housing, as well as preserve a historic part of downtown,” State Rep. Jerry Neyer (R-Shepherd) said.

QB Teddy Bridgewater, fresh off coaching alma mater to HS state title, reportedly coming out of retirement to sign with Lions
Two weeks after leading his high school alma mater to a state championship, Teddy Bridgewater is reportedly returning to the NFL.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 32-year-old quarterback will sign with the Detroit Lions for the remainder of this season. It’s unclear if he will be part of the active roster or signed to the practice squad.
Bridgewater played nine NFL seasons with six teams before retiring after last season, which he spent with the Lions. He threw for 15,120 yards and 75 touchdowns in 79 career games after being a first-round pick out of Louisville in 2014.
Bridgewater then took over head coaching duties at Miami Northwestern, who won the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A state title last month 41–0 over previously undefeated Jacksonville Raines. The team finished 12-2 on the season and outscored opponents 262-12 in their five playoff games.
After leading the school to its first state title since 2019, Bridgewater said he wasn’t done with the NFL. He told Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on NFL Network last month that he was looking forward to playing again.
“That’s the plan,” Bridgewater said. “My team knows that’s the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then coach goes back to the league, see what happens, and then come back February in the offseason, continue coaching high school football. We’ll see how it plays out.”
The 13-2 Lions currently have started Jared Goff and backup Hendon Hooker on their active depth chart. Jake Fromm, who is on the practice squad, is the only other quarterback on the roster.
The Detroit Lions are making headlines once again, as reports have surfaced that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement to sign with the team. Bridgewater, who recently led his high school alma mater to a state championship as a coach, is ready to make a return to the NFL.The Lions have been in need of a veteran presence at the quarterback position, and Bridgewater could be just the answer they are looking for. With his experience and leadership skills, he could provide a valuable asset to the team both on and off the field.
After spending time with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers, Bridgewater decided to step away from the game to pursue coaching. But now, it seems that he is ready to lace up his cleats once again and help lead the Lions to success.
