Hosted by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music, the event will take place on April 26 at Monmouth University in New Jersey, with Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, along with Steven Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren, serving as presenters. Tickets for the event go on sale March 25.
“This year’s honorees represent a cross-section of American music,” said Robert Santelli, founding executive director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives. “Rock, Americana, soul, and country are all represented by some of the most important artists from each genre. We are most excited to honor them and welcome them into the American Music Center family.”
While their careers span different genres—Motown, rock, country, and alternative—the honorees all share an undeniable impact on Billboard’s charts and American music history.
Smokey Robinson’s work as the frontman of The Miracles helped define the sound of Motown, and he was behind some of its biggest early hits. “Shop Around” became Motown’s first million-selling record and climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. Later, as a solo artist, Smokey kept the momentum going. His 1981 hit “Being with You” also peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100, making it his highest-charting solo single. Meanwhile, “Cruisin’” remains one of his most beloved tracks, reaching No. 4 on the Hot 100 in 1980.
John Fogerty, the voice behind Creedence Clearwater Revival, is a Billboard legend in his own right. The band famously holds the record for the most No. 2 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 without reaching No. 1, with classics like “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising.” His solo career continued that momentum, with Wrote a Song for Everyone reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2013.
Tom Morello, best known as the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, has left a major mark on rock music. The band’s 1992 self-titled debut peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard 200 but became one of the most influential records of the era. Their follow-ups Evil Empire (1996) and The Battle of Los Angeles (1999) both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Emmylou Harris, a country and Americana icon, has earned multiple No. 1 albums on the Top Country Albums chart, including Luxury Liner in 1977. She also secured a No. 1 hit on Hot Country Songs with “Together Again” in 1976.
Joe Ely, a pioneer in progressive country music, has had multiple charting albums. His 1981 release, Musta Notta Gotta Lotta, reached No. 135 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 12 on the Top Country Albums chart. His later work continued to make an impact, with Twistin’ in the Wind peaking at No. 55 in 1998, Streets of Sin at No. 51 in 2003, and Satisfied at Last at No. 46 in 2011 on the Top Country Albums chart.
The American Music Honors have announced that legendary music icons Smokey Robinson and John Fogerty will be honored at the 2025 awards ceremony.
Robinson, known for hits such as “My Girl” and “The Tracks of My Tears,” will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the music industry over the past six decades. His soulful voice and timeless songwriting have made him a true musical legend.
Fogerty, the lead singer and guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival, will be honored with the Icon Award for his influential work in rock and roll. With classics like “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising,” Fogerty has left an indelible mark on the music world.
Both artists have had long and successful careers, and their impact on music will be celebrated at the 2025 American Music Honors. Fans can look forward to special performances and tributes to these two music legends at the star-studded event. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting evening of music and celebration.
In 1970 David Crosby, burned by the implosion of supergroup Crosby Stills Nash & Young that summer and still grieving the death of his 21-year-old girlfriend Christine Hinton in a car crash in 1969, retreated to his boat in Sausalito, California, took lots of drugs, drank a lot of alcohol and somehow made a record.
Working at night with a cadre of crack West Coast musicians including The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia, Joni Mitchell and his erstwhile bandmates Graham Nash and Neil Young among others, Crosby recorded his debut solo album If I Could Only Remember My Name. “I was an immature person, stoned out of my mind, hit with something I absolutely couldn’t handle,” Crosby told Rolling Stone years later. “It’s amazing I managed to get into the studio at all.”
In the circumstances the slightly unfocused sense of drift that floats through the album makes sense. But it didn’t help its reception when it emerged in February 1971.
But over the last 50 years the album’s reputation has grown, so much so that when it came to mounting a tribute to the music of Crosby, who died in 2023, the composer and producer Kate St John decided a recreation of If I Could Only Remember My Name would provide the perfect vehicle.
Originally commissioned for the Llais Festival and performed at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff last October, it made its way north to Glasgow for Celtic Connections.
The Staves performed at the concert
St John was joined on stage by an impressive line-up of musicians and singers, including guitarist Robbie McIntosh, drummer Evan Jenkins, percussionist Ernesto Marichales, Kris Drever, Liam O’Maonlai, (formerly of Hothouse Flowers) and The Staves. (BC Camplight was posted missing with Covid.)
What followed was an evening of impeccable musicianship, glorious harmonies and enough evidence of Crosby’s songwriting capabilities to challenge those of us who have retained our residual, kneejerk post-punk, “never trust a hippy” prejudices.
And yet … and yet this felt a little like a missed opportunity. The issue was more presentational than musical. From the moment everyone trooped onstage and launched into the album’s opening track Music Is Love, led by The Staves, it was clear that this was going to be a sonically high-end evening. If anything, there was a pristine precision on display that was rather more in focus than the smeary beauty of the original. That may have had something to do with the fact, St John told us later, that Crosby had paid all his musicians with a bag of weed.

But as the first half of the show recreating If I Could Only Remember My Name proceeded without any introductions or context, the evening gathered a possibly unplanned solemnity. O’Maonlai brought a loose-jointed majesty to Traction in the Rain, the album’s prettiest song, and Ed Harcourt performed Cowboy Movie – Crosby’s self-mythologising retelling of the CSNY story – with a fierce intensity. But it all felt a little, well, churchy.
This became all the more apparent in the second half – devoted to highlights of the Crosby songbook – when everyone loosened up, started talking and began to give the impression of thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Margo Buchanan brought a bluesy swagger to Long Time Gone, Harcourt returned to offer up an even fiercer take on CSNY’s Almost Cut My Hair and The Staves reminded us of Crosby’s pop sensibility with their harmonies on The Byrds’ classic Why.
Kris Drever
And when Michelle Willis, now resident in Scotland but who worked with “Cros” in his final years, came on and started talking about the man she knew you suddenly got a glimpse of another possible way to tell Crosby’s story, one that foregrounded his humanity (though it has to be said no one on the evening was up for talking about what a monumental pain in the ass the man could be, as he would often admit himself).
The highlight of the evening was a duet between Willis and Kris Drever on Things We Do For Love that was a smoky, whisky-flavoured delight.
By the end the affection everyone on stage had for Crosby’s work was very apparent. It was just that it was much more fun when they came out and admitted it.
In honor of one of the greats of American music, let’s raise a glass of smoky, whisky-flavored tribute to their timeless talent and unforgettable legacy. From soulful blues to rocking anthems, their music has touched the hearts of millions and continues to inspire generations of artists.
As we savor the rich, complex flavors of this whisky, let’s also reflect on the depth and breadth of their musical genius. With each sip, we toast to their groundbreaking innovation, raw emotion, and unwavering authenticity that have left an indelible mark on the history of music.
So here’s to the legend, the icon, the trailblazer who has shaped the sound of America and beyond. May their music live on forever, and may their spirit continue to resonate with all who listen. Cheers to the unforgettable melodies and unforgettable memories they have given us. Here’s to you, the one and only, the greats of American music.

¡¡¡NO ESTÁ BIEN!!!”, lamentó.

Travelers have a lot to look forward to from American Airlines in 2025: New business-class suites, premium lounges and satellite Wi-Fi are coming, as well as a full recovery of its Chicago and Philadelphia hubs.
Those are just a few items that American CEO Robert Isom and other executives outlined during the airline’s fourth-quarter earnings call Thursday. The outlook is mostly bright with, as Isom put it, “robust demand across the board” for air travel.
But even those positive words and modest profits in the fourth quarter and full year of 2024 were not enough to appease investors. American’s forecast of a first-quarter loss — historically the weakest quarter of the calendar year for U.S. airlines — sent the airline’s stock down nearly 9% to $17.03 per share on Thursday.
“I really feel like we’ve got all the pieces in the puzzle in place to really take off,” said Isom. “Now, we’ve got some work to do putting that together and selling, and telling our story better, but we are the largest in the best market in the world here in the U.S.”
Here are five key takeaways from American’s earnings call.
First unveiled in 2022 as part of the boom in premium — particularly premium leisure — travel demand following the pandemic, the new Flagship Suites were supposed to enter service in 2024. However, the numerous supply chain issues that continue to plague the aerospace industry delayed their debut to this year.
The new seats and cabins will also be installed on American’s largest aircraft, the Boeing 777-300ER, at a later date. Isom did not offer an updated timeline for the retrofits that were previously set to begin in late 2024.

As part of the cabin upgrades, American will retire the Flagship First product that it currently offers on its small fleet of premium transcontinental Airbus A321s — the A321Ts — that flies between New York and both Los Angeles and San Francisco, and on the 777-300ER. The airline does not yet have a date for the final flight of Flagship First.
American plans to open a new Flagship Lounge at its Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) hub this summer, Isom said. The lounge will be in the A-West terminal used by American’s international flights and available only to travelers booked in long-haul international first or business class, as well as certain elite frequent flyers.
The lounge comes as American builds back its Philadelphia gateway. It will add new nonstops to Edinburgh and Milan from the airport this summer that, coupled with other international capacity increases, will result in more long-haul flights and seats from Philadelphia during the peak June-to-August period for the first time since the summer of 2019, schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium Diio shows.
“We’re really interested that our customers have access to Wi-Fi, satellite-based Wi-Fi, on everything that they fly,” said Isom.
American’s fleet of single-class regional jets — Embraer ERJ-145s — will not receive the new high-speed inflight connectivity.
Asked by Wall Street analysts if American was reconsidering its stance on in-seat entertainment screens, Isom said the airline will upgrade its in-seat entertainment offerings on long-haul aircraft, including the A321XLR and 787, but has no plans to offer the popular entertainment option on its domestic narrow-body fleet.
