  • ‘We’re looking at what amounts to a threat to democracy’


    Hannibal “Mike” Ware, the former inspector general (IG) for the Small Business Administration, said he and others are looking into whether actions taken by President Trump amount to a threat to democracy.

    Ware, along with other inspectors general, were fired by Trump on Friday. The late-night firings may be in violation of federal law that states the president must give Congress a 30-day notice of his intent to remove an inspector general, and they have also raised concerns for what it means for the government to go without the independent internal watchdogs.

    “We’re looking at what amounts to a threat to democracy, a threat to independent oversight and a threat to transparency in government,” Ware said Monday on MSNBC.

    Ware, who was appointed by Trump during his first term, said the 30-day notice to Congress is a “key protection” of the independence afforded to inspectors general. He highlighted the 1978 Inspector General Act and its protections for the watchdogs.

    “You can’t decide I’m not going to follow that part of the IG Act, but oh, I’m going to follow the part that allows IGs to have full and unfettered access to all agencies, records and personnel,” he said, later adding that “we might as well not have an Inspector General Act at all.”

    Ware argued that the president removed people who were not aligned with his mission.

    U.S. Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who works under the Justice Department, was spared from the firings.

    “For years, we have been viewed as nonpartisan, nonpolitical,” Ware said. “What’s happening right now is historic in that this has never happened before.”

  • Shroud’s Fragathon streams raise staggering amounts of money for charity


    One of the most popular FPS faces, Shroud and other popular streamers have raised over $260k through his Fragathon streams on Twitch where he is donating everything to St Jude’s charity.

    In a YouTube video, Shroud went over the tragic incident of losing his dad to lung cancer, and said he wanted to support the people who are going through similar situations. Instead of a regular subathon on Twitch where fans can donate to keep extending the stream, he’s doing a Fragathon, where each elimination inside whatever game he’s playing is worth one dollar.

    The subs and donations to his streams are going to increase a multiplier and make each kill worth even more. Each of these donations, subscriptions, and even bits are going toward the charity. He also has a merch shop, where all the purchases contribute directly to the cause. 

    Of course, Shroud isn’t alone in tackling this gargantuan challenge and he has already invited multiple big names like iiTzTimmy, Jacksepticeye, Ludwig, and many others who have joined him on a LAN set-up at his place to help raise money for the cause. Apart from streaming, he is also doing real-life events and challenges which are also increasing the money being donated.

    In terms of games, Marvel Rivals has been Shroud’s most-played game so far in the Fragathon, and he has even gone so far as to say that he “genuinely” might be playing the game for the rest of his life. He also revealed he might even own an esports team for Marvel Rivals after the donation amount hits a particular figure, and he’s going to reveal that figure soon to the viewers. 

    Apart from Marvel Rivals, he has also tried his hands at Counter-Strike 2, even indies like Ready or Not and Heroes of the Hammerwatch 2 for the viewers. 

    As time of writing, Shroud has gathered $268,386 from his charity streams, and he still has two more weeks to pump up the amount and donate it to the charity. Shroud’s Fragathon is not coming to a halt soon, as he’s going to continue the charity streams til Feb. 8.

  • Georgia winter storm: What to know now about the timing, snow amounts for Tuesday – WSB-TV Channel 2


    ATLANTA — Parts of the Southeast are bracing for another winter storm that will move through Tuesday.

    A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all of metro Atlanta and parts south are under a Winter Storm Warning.

    “There will be some snow and some slippery spots and some hazardous travel. That threat increases to the south,” Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

    “The winter storm warning down in middle Georgia could see one to two inches of snow,” Nitz said.

    Which areas will see snow? How much snow is expected?

    Areas south of I-20 will have the best chance of accumulating snow. About 1-2 inches of snow are possible over our far southern counties.

    In and around metro Atlanta, Monahan says the forecast is tricky because it all depends on how quickly the mid and low levels of the atmosphere can moisten up.

    At the least, we will see scattered light snow and snow showers around the I-20 corridor. For counties in north metro and far north Georgia, accumulating snow is unlikely.

    Metro will see long duration of freezing temperatures

    As for the type of snow, you can expect light, dry and fluffy snow unlike the wet snow many of us saw earlier this month. Monahan says what falls on Tuesday will stick immediately.

    Timing of the snow:

    We will stay dry and moisture-free throughout the morning. In the afternoon, some snow will come through in the south and southeast metro and moves out fairly quickly into the evening.

    Cold temps across North Georgia:

    All of North Georgia will see temperatures around freezing the next couple of days. On Tuesday, highs will stay around 32 degrees with lows in the low 20s. Wednesday will be slightly warmer with lows in the teens at night.

    Once we get later into the week, temps begin to rise more with lows in the mid-20s at night.

    A clipper system brought some moderate to briefly heavy snow along the Highway 30 to I-80 corridors across the state. A few Snow Squall Warnings were issued for the morning commute from Carroll to about Grinnell.

    There was a thin window of 3 to 4″ amounts in Iowa and Johnson County, with about 1-3″ for Highway 30 and south. North of Highway 30, totals dropped off quickly and there was essentially no snow north of Highway 20. This link will take you to an interactive map of snowfall totals.
