Decisions, decisions: Ancelotti’s Real Madrid choices for latest LaLiga test
Following their dominant performance in the seventh round of the Champions League, where Real Madrid crushed RB Salzburg, the team returns to domestic action. This time, they travel to Castilla to face Real Valladolid at the José Zorrilla Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
By then, they’ll already know Atlético Madrid’s result – key to the battle for the top spot in the standings – and will be waiting to see how Barcelona fares against Valencia in the penultimate game of the round. The matchday will conclude on Monday with Alavés hosting Celta at 3:00 p.m. ET.
Why is Vinícius not playing for Madrid against Valladolid?
For this encounter, Carlo Ancelotti will again be without Vinícius Jr., who is serving the final match of his two-game suspension after being sent off against Valencia.
The Brazilian’s schedule has been irregular this week: he missed the game against Las Palmas, played against Salzburg, will sit out against Valladolid, and won’t feature in the final European group-stage game against Brest.

Possible lineups for Valladolid and Real Madrid. In his absence, Madrid’s attack will be led by Brahim Díaz, returning to the starting lineup after featuring against Las Palmas at the Bernabéu. Jude Bellingham will serve as the link between the midfield and attack, with Rodrygo operating on the left flank and Kylian Mbappé spearheading the offense. Both Rodrygo and Mbappé are in scintillating form.
The Brazilian has scored five goals in January alone, half of his tally since August (he has 10 goals in total). Mbappé is also on five goals for January and continues his chase of Lewandowski for the league’s pichichi title.
Tactical adjustments in defense and midfield
Ancelotti will welcome back Lucas Vázquez, allowing Fede Valverde to return to his preferred midfield role, vacating the right-back position. The likely defensive lineup will feature Lucas Vázquez, Raúl Asencio – who is becoming more dependable in central defense and drawing comparisons to Nacho – Rüdiger, and Fran García, who is expected to replace Ferland Mendy after the latter started in the Champions League.
In midfield, Valverde is a guaranteed starter, leaving Dani Ceballos and Aurélien Tchouaméni competing for the remaining spot. Ceballos has the edge, having performed admirably in recent matches, while Tchouaméni is just returning from an injury that kept him out against Las Palmas and Salzburg.
Real Madrid predicted starting XI against Valladolid
Carlo Ancelotti’s likely lineup against Real Valladolid:
Courtois; Lucas Vázquez, Asencio, Rüdiger, Fran García; Ceballos or Tchouaméni, Valverde; Brahim, Bellingham, Rodrygo; Mbappé.
The rest of the squad includes Lunin and Fran González as backup goalkeepers; Alaba, Mendy, Jacobo Ramón, and Lorenzo in defense; Modric, Arda Güler in midfield; and Endrick as an exciting attacking option.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti faces a tough decision ahead of his team’s latest LaLiga test. With several key players either injured or suspended, Ancelotti will need to carefully consider his options as he looks to secure a crucial victory. In defense, the absence of key center-back Raphael Varane leaves Ancelotti with a dilemma. Will he opt for the experience of Nacho Fernandez or the youthful energy of Eder Militao? Both players have proven themselves capable in the past, but Ancelotti’s decision could have a significant impact on the outcome of the match.
In midfield, Ancelotti must also decide how to fill the void left by the suspended Casemiro. Will he turn to the creativity of Luka Modric or the defensive solidity of Federico Valverde? Both players bring different qualities to the team, and Ancelotti’s decision could shape the way Real Madrid approach the game.
Up front, Ancelotti faces another dilemma as he considers who to start in the absence of injured striker Karim Benzema. Will he go with the pace and dynamism of Vinicius Junior, or the clinical finishing of Rodrygo? Again, Ancelotti’s decision could be pivotal in determining the outcome of the match.
As Ancelotti weighs up his options, one thing is clear: the choices he makes will play a crucial role in Real Madrid’s chances of success in their latest LaLiga test. With valuable points at stake, Ancelotti will need to make the right decisions if he hopes to guide his team to victory.

Ancelotti’s Confession about Mbappé that He Uses as a Threat against Anti-Madrid
Real Madrid went ahead on the scoreboard again thanks to Mbappé, who continues to be in excellent form and keeps scoring goals.
The Frenchman, with a sharp shot to the near post of Iván Villar, sealed a magnificent counterattack to break the deadlock against the Vigo team.
The Celta de Vigo players protested a possible penalty, although it was absolutely futile. It’s clear that the Celta player falls to the ground before making contact with Andriy Lunin.

Kylian Mbappé’s talked-about celebration
Kylian Mbappé celebrated his goal significantly, placing his hand on the crest and making a gesture with his finger in a sign of denial. Many comment that it might be a possible show of support for Tchouaméni, who was booed by the fans every time he touched the ball during the game.
After the match, the French forward posted a message on his Instagram account: “You don’t play with the badge.”
Kylian Mbappé once again showcased one of his best performances in the Copa del Rey match against Celta de Vigo. During the first half against Celta, the French was once again the most incisive and dangerous player, showing his ability to tip the balance of the match at any moment.

Ancelotti’s statements about Mbappé
“Mbappé is finding his best level. He’s helping us all a lot,” commented Carlo Ancelotti in the press conference when asked about the Frenchman.
With tonight’s goal, Mbappé has already scored 16 goals this season. Including the one he scored in the Intercontinental Cup, where he also opened the scoring.
In the last eight matches of Real Madrid, he has scored in six. He’s the team’s top scorer, surpassing Vinícius, who has 14 goals, including today’s. However, the Brazilian has recorded ten assists, while Kylian Mbappé has provided three.
Without a doubt, Kylian Mbappé is starting to become one of the main leaders of the Real Madrid team. The Frenchman is taking on the team’s weight, and gradually, the goals and good performances are coming.
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, has made a shocking confession about star player Kylian Mbappé that he is now using as a threat against those who doubt the French forward. In a recent press conference, Ancelotti revealed that Mbappé has been performing at an even higher level than he initially expected and has been a key player in the team’s success this season. However, he also admitted that Mbappé has been harboring a secret desire to prove his critics wrong and show them that he is the best player in the world.
Ancelotti stated, “Kylian has told me that he is fully aware of the criticism and doubts surrounding his abilities, but he is determined to silence his detractors once and for all. He has been training harder than ever and is ready to show the world what he is capable of.”
The manager then went on to issue a warning to those who have been questioning Mbappé’s abilities, stating that they should be prepared to eat their words once the Frenchman unleashes his full potential on the pitch.
Fans and pundits alike are now eagerly anticipating Mbappé’s next performance, with many wondering if he will indeed prove himself to be the best player in the world as he has promised. Only time will tell if Ancelotti’s threat will come to fruition and if Mbappé will emerge victorious in his battle against the critics.
