  • ‘Wolf Man’ and ‘September 5’ now available at home; Florence Pugh, Andrew Garfield romance ‘We Live in Time’ hits Max

After Universal tried and failed to usher in a new era of their classic monster movies, 2020’s The Invisible Man helped resurrect the concept with Leigh Whannell’s clever and thoroughly modern take on the story.

Not only was that movie a hit with both audiences and critics, but it also seemed to provide a much-needed template for Universal to update its beloved characters to reflect the times. It took five years, but the studio has finally made a proper follow-up in Wolf Man, and they brought back Whannell to try his hand again.

The response to Wolf Man was markedly different than that of The Invisible Man, regarding both box office and critical reception. But is it worth your time? It debuted on digital this week, 17 days after its theatrical release, so you can find out for yourself.

Wolf Man isn’t the only movie newly available on streaming this week — the critically acclaimed, ripped-from-the-headlines period journalism thriller September 5 is out now, and A24’s hit romance We Live in Time, starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, hits Max.

The Pharrell Williams Lego biopic Piece by Piece is out on Peacock, which could be appealing to kids and parents alike. For after the kids go to bed, Kill, a hyper-violent action-thriller from India that earned rave reviews, is available on Hulu.

Here’s what to know about the theatrical movies newly available to stream as of this week and where you can find them.

    Wolf Man

Wolf Man sets up a loaded metaphor in its terrific, tense opening sequence: A boy and his overbearing survivalist father hunting in the woods encounter some sort of animalistic creature. As the movie progresses, it becomes clear there’s not enough meat on the bone for the analogy they’re going for regarding parenthood, trauma, abuse and how we’re doomed to become our parents, no matter how hard we try to stray from the path.

It’s heavy stuff for a movie that could stand to have some fun, but there are still elements worthy of praise, including the practical makeup effects on the wolf transformation and the impactful, but all-too-brief moments of body horror. Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner are two great performers, but it’s hard to get a read on their characters.

Wolf Man is ambitious enough to recommend to those who like their genre fare more offbeat, but it doesn’t come together in the same satisfying way that Whannell’s previous effort did.

    We Live in Time

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh star in A24’s romance We Live in Time, which you may want to watch with a box of tissues nearby. It’s all about the inventive structure here, as it’s a story you’ve otherwise likely seen before. The movie is told nonlinearly, turning it into a sort of puzzle you solve as it goes.

It’s a neat trick to keep you engaged in what could be overly familiar, weepy material, and both Pugh and Garfield are great in it as a couple that we see go through many ups and downs over a decade. It’s refreshing that the movie isn’t afraid to present the hardships as equally as it depicts the good times.

    September 5

September 5 has to be one of the most overlooked and underseen movies of 2024. It earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture — Drama, and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars, but still, it feels like few people have seen or heard of this movie.

Maybe some of that has to do with the fact that it is about events that were already famously depicted in the capital-G Great Munich, which Steven Spielberg directed. Still, that shouldn’t affect your interest in September 5, which tells a separate story.

It’s a journalism process movie that takes place during the 1972 Munich Olympics, when an American sports broadcasting crew found itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes. It may be a journalism movie, and a great one at that, but it’s also a gripping thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, as the sports journalists and the news junkies jockey to cover it effectively.

It’s about big ethical questions and moral quandaries that are as relevant today as they were in 1972, and you get the sense this moment in time was important in establishing broadcast journalism as we know it. A terrific nuts-and-bolts “how tough decisions get made in real time” movie!

How to watch: September 5 is now available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and other video on demand platforms.

    Piece by Piece

Piece by Piece isn’t the first animated movie to use the Lego aesthetic, but it’s certainly the first biopic about a real person to be depicted in Lego.

It’s not as strange as it sounds, and the movie actually does a good job of setting up why exactly you’re watching a movie about legendary music producer and musician Pharrell Williams in Lego form. Pharrell has synesthesia, which allows him to essentially see music, which alone is a clever justification for the colorful world in the movie.

There’s an infectious and inspiring creative energy that’s hard to ignore, and if the story of Williams’s rise from rags to riches wasn’t compelling enough, the soundtrack of wall-to-wall bangers that he either produced or sang on himself is undeniable.

    Kill

If you love a good revenge movie and you don’t mind a lot of blood and nonstop violence, the aptly titled Kill is for you. The plot is high-concept, yet simple: A guy is out for revenge, killing those who have wronged him, except it’s set entirely on a moving train.

Kill doesn’t pull a bait-and-switch exactly, but the degree to which the tenor of the violence changes after a certain death at the midpoint of the movie is unexpected and harrowing. A movie that revels in violent deaths suddenly starts showing you that every death means the world to someone — what was once just bombastic entertainment has been rendered upsetting and hard to shake.

Kill does a great job of building emotional stakes so the audience cares about what’s going on, and thankfully, the action is also shot well and choreographed so there’s rarely a dull moment.

How to watch: Kill is now streaming on Hulu.

  • Myles Garrett trade rumors shut down by Browns GM Andrew Berry

MOBILE, Ala. — Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry might find himself discussing potential trades with his peers this week during and around Senior Bowl practices, but he affirmed Tuesday that he won’t be talking about defensive end Myles Garrett.

Garrett hinted late in the season that he wouldn’t commit to a long-term future with the Browns until he talked with Berry and other high-ranking officials about the team’s plans to quickly recover from a 3-14 campaign. But Berry told reporters that Cleveland will not be trading Garrett, who’s currently signed through 2026.

“We always have a really good and direct two-way communication with our players (and) we feel really good about Myles, obviously, as a big piece of our future,” Berry said. “We’re looking forward to him being on the field. Like I said in my (early January) press conference, we envision him going from Cleveland to Canton when his career is over.”

Garrett, 29, is again a finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, which he won last year. This past season, Garrett became the youngest player to reach 100 career sacks and the first player to record 14 or more sacks in four consecutive seasons.

In December, Garrett said he was not interested in being part of another rebuild and that 2024 was the most disappointing season he’d had, which included Cleveland going 0-16 when Garrett was a rookie in 2017. The Browns started the 2024 season with the most expensive roster in NFL history but spiraled while starting four different quarterbacks and finishing last in points and interceptions thrown.

Garrett might have been angling to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with his comments, and it sounds like he might get his way. Berry previously said he didn’t envision the Browns shedding core players to address their salary-cap issues, and he said here in Mobile he wouldn’t be willing to listen to offers for Garrett — even if those offers included multiple first-round picks.

“I don’t want to go into contract discussions (and) I wouldn’t do that publicly, but I think you can assume that we do anticipate at some point getting (that done),” Berry said. “We want Myles to retire as a Brown.”

Berry and a Browns contingent that includes coach Kevin Stefanski are meeting with and evaluating draft prospects from the sideline of Senior Bowl practices this week. Stefanski doesn’t usually attend the Senior Bowl, but he’s here this year with the Browns back in the quarterback search business and holding the No. 2 pick in April’s draft.

Cleveland Browns fans can breathe a sigh of relief as General Manager Andrew Berry has officially shut down any rumors of trading star defensive end Myles Garrett. Despite speculation swirling around Garrett’s future with the team, Berry made it clear that Garrett is a key part of their plans moving forward.

In a recent press conference, Berry stated, “Myles is a foundational player for us and we are excited about what he brings to our defense. We have no intentions of trading him and he is a big part of our long-term vision for this team.”

Garrett, who is coming off a dominant season with 12 sacks and 4 forced fumbles, is widely regarded as one of the best defensive players in the league. His combination of size, speed, and pass-rushing ability make him a game-changer on the field.

With Berry’s reassurance, Browns fans can now focus on the upcoming season with confidence that Garrett will be leading the charge on defense. It’s clear that the organization values Garrett’s contributions and sees him as a vital piece of their future success.

  • Golden State Warriors Fans Speculate Over Andrew Wiggins’ Instagram Post

On Wednesday night, Andrew Wiggins and the Golden State Warriors beat the Oklahoma City Thunder (at home) by a score of 116-109.

Wiggins finished the win with 27 points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block while shooting 10/17 from the field and 5/8 from the three-point range in 38 minutes.

In one of the photos, Wiggins was next to Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls).

LaVine and Vucevic have been two of the most mentioned players on the trading block.

Via K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network: “Warriors, I’m told, are having conversations with multiple teams on multiple scenarios, with LaVine and Vucevic, to some degree, two of them. Like a lot of teams, they’re engaged on several scenarios, to varying degrees of interest.”

Wiggins is currently averaging 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 44.8% from the field and 38.7% from the three-point range in 41 games.

They are in the middle of a two-game winning streak.

The Golden State Warriors fanbase is buzzing with excitement as they speculate over a recent Instagram post from star player Andrew Wiggins. The post features a cryptic message and a photo of Wiggins looking focused and determined on the court.

Many fans are speculating that the post is a hint at Wiggins’ mindset going into the upcoming season, with some even suggesting that he may be hinting at a breakout year or a renewed focus on his game. Others believe that the post could be a subtle nod to the team’s championship aspirations and Wiggins’ commitment to helping lead the Warriors to success.

As the offseason winds down and the start of the new season approaches, Warriors fans are eagerly watching Wiggins’ social media for any clues or insights into what they can expect from him on the court. With the team looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, all eyes will be on Wiggins and his performance as the Warriors look to reclaim their spot as one of the top teams in the league.

  • Andrew Jarecki’s Powerful Prison Exposé

The Alabama Solution” is one of the most powerful exposés of the inhumanity of the American prison system I’ve ever seen. Directed by Andrew Jarecki (“Capturing the Friedmans,” “The Jinx”) and Charlotte Kaufman, the movie is a scalding portrait of life on the inside that exerts a grip worthy of a thriller. It’s an investigative documentary, filmed over five years, much of it in and around the Easterling Correctional Facility in Southeast Alabama, that doesn’t merely show us the chronic abuse of prisoners. It uncovers a culture of sanctified lawlessness. And the way “The Alabama Solution” reveals this, peeling away layers of a systemic cover-up, becomes as dramatic as the crimes it’s about.

The movie follows in the incendiary footsteps of documentaries like Ava DuVernay’s “13th” and Liz Garbus and Jonathan Stack’s “The Farm: Angola, USA” and Stanley Nelson’s “Attica,” building on their insights. And it infiltrates the world of prison with an ingenuity, and emotional directness, made possible (in this case) by technology. A Supreme Court ruling has decreed that wardens can bar journalists from entering prisons as a way of protecting “safety and security.” This means that anything can go on behind bars, and it won’t be seen. It’s easier to report on a war zone than it is on a prison. But Jarecki and Kaufman penetrate the walls of secrecy.

They first came to Easterling, in 2019, for what seemed a positive occasion. They were there to record a religious revival, complete with barbecue, being held in the prison yard. But it turned out that this was a glorified public-relations stunt. While they were there, several prisoners took them aside and told them stories of beatings and stabbings and subhuman conditions.

Those who are serving time have always found ways to get ahold of things (drugs, money, etc.), even when it violates prison protocol or the law. And in “The Alabama Solution,” we watch the incarcerated men of Easterling communicate with the outside world using contraband cell phones. The prisoners remained in touch with the filmmakers, using the cell phones as an underground communication system. And the footage of those calls, presented in a vertical rectangle onscreen, carries an extraordinary muckraking urgency. Prisoners like Robert Earl Council and Melvin Ray, who speak their minds directly and report on what they’re observing, become the film’s forthright and compelling narrators.

We get direct testimony about what has gone on in the prison, but the raw phone footage achieves something else. It humanizes the prisoners, allowing them to undercut their public identities as convicted criminals. The film, in that sense, isn’t just combating abuse. It’s pushing back against even a sympathetic audience’s tendency to pigeonhole prisoners as we’re watching them. The full humanity of these men is something that’s too easy to brush aside, and that’s something “The Alabama Solution” reminds us of at every moment.

We’re presented with shocking statistics about the Alabama State Prison system. It’s one of the worst in the United States, with the highest rates of drug overdose, rape, suicide, and murder. How does something like that happen? Easterling is an institution that’s at 200 percent capacity. The conditions are horrifying. We see Robert Earl Council toss out the rats that are scurrying around his toilet, and we learn that he spent five years in solitary confinement. He looks and sounds astonishingly centered and upbeat for having gone through that hell, but a part of you wonders: How could a prison justify keeping anyone in solitary for that long? In the case of Easterling, which is run like a totalitarian work farm, it’s all part of how the system is organized to shut down the prisoners’ voices, to make sure that even the most glaring breaches of law remain hidden.

Having set us in this nightmare world, the documentary takes shape around a single horrifying event. A prisoner at Donaldson Prison, named Steven Davis, was beaten by guards so brutally that he wound up in the ICU. But it was worse than that: He was found there in a body bag. He’d been killed — for nothing. We’re shown a clandestine photograph that was taken of his corpse, and it’s a hideous image, one that you can’t unsee, his facial bones literally caved in, his eye a black circle. “The Alabama Solution” becomes a murder mystery. How did this happen and why? And how could it have been covered up?

Several prisoners saw what happened, and testify to it, and their words all align. They describe how Davis was beaten, the guard in question taking his boot and smashing Davis’s head, bouncing it off the floor “like a basketball.” But there is one prisoner who offers condradictory testimony. It is Davis’s cell mate, James Sales. What accounts for the discrepancy? Sales has only a few months left of his sentence before he goes free; he’s trying not to rock the boat. And just as we’re wondering how this will resolve itself, something happens. The prison system resolves it, and not in a good way.

The key guard in the story, Roderick Gadson, with his bald head and looming physique, evokes the menace of Suge Knight. We see footage of a hearing in which he discusses the various transgressions he’s been accused of, dismissing them with a blithe awareness that the system will protect him. The system, which includes all the prisons in Alabama, is run for profit. The state’s 20,000 incarcerated people provide $450 million in goods and serves to Alabama each year. Which is why the state has spent $50 million defending prison officers against charges of misconduct.

The injustice of it all — the murder, the silence, the capitalist ethos that goes back to the slave era — is part of a larger racket, presided over by the Alabama governor, Kay Ivey, who’s so jaunty about the wonder of her state’s prison system that she should be played, in the Hollywood version of this story, by Kathy Bates. At one point there’s a state-wide prison strike to protest these crimes, and it appears well-organized. It gains traction and national attention and seems to be working…until it doesn’t. You may think of Attica. For who really holds the cards here?

“The Alabama Solution,” as its title suggests, is about how prisons can be part of a state-wide chain of corruption. We’re told about how the state is planning to consolidate its incarceration system by building three new mega-prisons, at a cost of $900 million. That’s not a solution to overcrowded prison conditions; it’s an efficiency move by a corporation. And the film suggests that Alabama, as bad as the situation is there, is not alone. These trends and injustices are part of how prison in America increasingly works. But “The Alabama Solution” lays bare the rotten guts of this system with enough sobering evidence, and enough filmmaking force, to make a difference.

Andrew Jarecki, the filmmaker behind the groundbreaking documentary “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” has once again captured the attention of audiences with his latest project – a powerful prison exposé.

In this new documentary, Jarecki takes viewers inside the walls of some of the most notorious prisons in the country, shedding light on the harsh realities of life behind bars. Through interviews with inmates, guards, and prison officials, Jarecki paints a vivid and often disturbing picture of the brutal conditions and systemic issues that plague the American prison system.

The film also delves into the stories of individual inmates, showcasing the human cost of mass incarceration and the devastating impact it has on families and communities. By giving a voice to those who are often silenced and overlooked, Jarecki’s documentary serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for reform and rehabilitation within the criminal justice system.

With his keen eye for storytelling and unflinching commitment to truth, Andrew Jarecki’s prison exposé is sure to spark important conversations and provoke much-needed change. This is a must-watch for anyone interested in understanding the complex and troubling realities of the American prison system.

  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander vs Andrew Wiggins key to Warriors-Thunder game – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

The Warriors know what they’re up against Wednesday night when they face Oklahoma City, which is bossing the NBA this season. The Thunder have the best record, the best defense, the best net rating and the leading candidate for Most Valuable Player.

The best approach to beating the Thunder (37-8) begins with containing point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the MVP candidate and the best game maestro in the league.

Golden State (23-23) will ask Andrew Wiggins to be its first line of defense – and hope it doesn’t come at the cost of Wiggins’ offense. The Warriors are going to need both.

Though it’s not accurate to describe Gilgeous-Alexander as a “shooter,” he leads the league in scoring (32.1 points per game). He’s shooting 52.8 percent from the field, including 35.1 percent from distance. Insofar as he is second in the NBA in free-throw attempts (8.3 per game) and first in makes (7.5), the priority is to keep him off the line.

The problem the Warriors face is that Gilgeous-Alexander uses smarts and angles when wading into the paint to draw contact. Can Wiggins defend without fouling? In OKC’s last loss to the Dallas Mavericks last Thursday, Gilgeous-Alexander shot only six free throws. He shot only four in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers three weeks ago.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr generally believes in battling a star ballhandler with a rotating crew of defenders. Gary Payton II will get a few turns; he might even start. Moses Moody and Lindy Waters III also could be called.

Though SGA is the undisputed star, the Thunder has a deep group of two-way wings – with Jalen Williams and Luguentz Dort leading the way – that have a clear understanding of the team’s defensive principles and offensive strategies. No team is better at turning defense into offense, as OKC leads the NBA in points off turnovers while allowing the fewest points off their giveaways. They simply do not beat themselves.

The Thunder’s most exploitable weakness is rebounding, which ranks 23rd in the league. Only the wretched Washington Wizards allow more second-chance points than the Thunder. Dallas forward PJ Washington savaged OKC for 22 points and 19 rebounds to anchor the Mavericks’ win last week.

Translation: Attacking the offensive glass is essential for the Warriors – who rank third in overall rebounding and fourth in offensive rebounding – to give themselves a reasonable chance at pulling off the upset. Limiting Gilgeous-Alexander is but the first step.

The upcoming matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder is set to be an exciting game, with both teams fielding talented players who have the potential to make a big impact on the outcome. One key matchup to watch will be between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder and Andrew Wiggins of the Warriors.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been a standout player for the Thunder this season, averaging 24.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. His ability to score and create opportunities for his teammates makes him a major threat on the court. On the other hand, Wiggins has been a consistent performer for the Warriors, averaging 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. His scoring ability and defensive prowess make him a key player for Golden State.

The matchup between Gilgeous-Alexander and Wiggins will be crucial in determining the outcome of the game. Both players have the skills and talent to dominate on both ends of the court, and whoever can outperform the other will likely give their team a significant advantage.

Fans can tune in to NBC Sports Bay Area & California to catch all the action and see which player comes out on top in this exciting showdown between the Warriors and Thunder. It’s sure to be a thrilling game that fans won’t want to miss.

  • Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin out against Pistons

INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers guards Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin are both out for Wednesday’s game against the Pistons, coach Rick Carlisle said in his pre-game press conference.

Nembhard was listed as questionable with a thoracic spine sprain and Mathurin was a late addition to the injury report with an illness. Carlisle said Nembhard’s back flared up in the Pacers’ game against the Spurs in Paris on Saturday and he said the flight home didn’t help. He said Mathurin wasn’t feeling well on Wednesday and when he came to the team’s pre-game walkthrough it got worse and Mathurin left the building. Carlisle said he presumes it’s a non-COVID illness but can’t say for certain because they don’t know much about it at this point.

Nembhard and Mathurin are the Pacers’ starters at shooting guard and small forward respectively, so the losses are obviously costly. Nembhard is averaging 10.6 points and 5.2 assists per game this season and has been the team’s best on-ball defender, which hurts the Pacers against the Pistons and All-Star candidate Cade Cunningham.

“That’s a big loss for this game for obvious reasons,” Carlisle said. “But we’re gonna have to figure it out. That’s why you have to build a roster with depth and our depth is gonna have to come through for us.”

Mathurn has greatly improved his defense and is still as dynamic of a scorer as he’s always been averaging 16.4 points per game to go with 5.9 rebounds.

The injuries will most likely lead to the promotion of wings Ben Sheppard and Aaron Nesmith to the starting lineup. Nesmith was the starting small forward for most of last season and the first six games of this season until a sprained left ankle cost him 35 games. Sheppard has started eight games over the last two seasons. The injuries also likely mean more minutes for Jarace Walker, who has played a little over 25 minutes in the last three games with Nesmith and Mathurin both available.

This article originally appeared on Indianapolis Star: Pacers injury update: Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin ruled out

The Indiana Pacers will be without guards Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin for their upcoming game against the Detroit Pistons. Nembhard is dealing with a lower back injury, while Mathurin is sidelined with a sprained ankle.

These absences will be a blow to the Pacers as they look to secure a crucial win against the Pistons. Nembhard has been a key contributor for the team this season, averaging solid numbers in points, assists, and steals. Mathurin, a rookie, has also shown promise and provided valuable minutes off the bench.

The Pacers will need to rely on their depth and next man up mentality to overcome these injuries and come out on top in this matchup. Fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Nembhard and Mathurin as they look to get back on the court and help the team in their playoff push.

The rumours have caused widespread alarm. RFK Jr has been known to make false claims about vaccines, plus other erroneous, health-related comments, such as how chemical exposure in water can lead to sexual dysphoria, according to CNN.

Kerry, a Democrat who openly supported Kamala Harris and rallied her siblings to oppose her Trump-supporting brother in the presidential election, told CNN that she did not trust him to be in charge of health in the United States.

Meet Kerry, the Kennedy who isn’t afraid to speak out about the other Kennedy.

Kerry is president of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation, which focuses on child labour, women’s rights, disappearances and indigenous land rights, according to its website. It also states that Kerry has led “hundreds of human rights” delegations in support of these causes. Kerry is the chair of the Amnesty International USA Leadership Council and has also served on the boards of directors for the United States Institute of Peace; Human Rights First; and Laureates and Leaders, her biography says.

Kerry, 65, is the seventh of Ethel and Robert F. Kennedy’s 11 children. Robert was the brother of John F. Kennedy, the US president assassinated in 1963. Less than five years later Robert was also gunned down. He was campaigning to be president when he was shot and killed.

Kerry Kennedy, the seventh child of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, has been making headlines for her outspoken opposition to both her brother, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and former President Donald Trump.

Kennedy, who is well-known for her human-rights activism and work with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization, has been critical of her brother’s anti-vaccine stance and promotion of conspiracy theories. In a recent interview, she expressed her disappointment in her brother’s beliefs and the harm they are causing to public health.

But Kennedy’s turbulent personal life has also been a topic of conversation. Her marriage to ex-New York governor Andrew Cuomo ended in a highly-publicized divorce, with rumors of infidelity and political ambitions swirling around the couple. Despite this, Kennedy has remained dedicated to her work and her family, including her daughter Mariah, who recently came out as demisexual.

Kennedy has been a vocal supporter of her daughter and the LGBTQ+ community, using her platform to advocate for acceptance and understanding. In a world filled with division and hate, Kerry Kennedy stands as a beacon of hope and compassion, fighting for justice and equality for all.

  • UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty told Congress earlier this year the breach affected about 100M Americans

UnitedHealth Group says the impact from the cyberattack last year at its Change Healthcare subsidiary is much wider than previously understood, affecting roughly 190 million patients — up from previous estimates of about 100 million people.

With the U.S. population standing at about 341 million people, the breach is now thought to affect about 1 in 2 Americans.

Even before Friday, the incident was by far the largest breach currently showing on the federal website, which doesn’t show a 2015 breach at health insurer Anthem Inc. that affected data for about 79 million patients.

“Change Healthcare has determined the estimated total number of individuals impacted by the Change Healthcare cyberattack is approximately 190 million,“ UnitedHealth Group said in a statement issued Friday afternoon. ”The vast majority of those people have already been provided individual or substitute notice.”

The company added that it “is not aware of any misuse of individuals’ information as a result of this incident and has not seen electronic medical record databases appear in the data during the analysis.”

Eden Prairie-based UnitedHealth Group owns UnitedHealthcare, the nation’s largest health insurer, and a fast-growing division for health services called Optum, which acquired Change Healthcare for $13 billion in 2022.

Change Healthcare was involved in processing a large share of all health care claims and payments in the U.S. — roughly 15 billion health care transactions annually before the hack, affecting 1 in 3 patient records, according to federal officials.

In a shocking revelation earlier this year, UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty disclosed to Congress that a breach had impacted approximately 100 million Americans. This breach not only raised concerns about the security of sensitive personal information but also highlighted the urgent need for stronger data protection measures. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story. #UnitedHealth #DataBreach #AndrewWitty #Congress #SecurityConcerns

  • Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Gui Santos graded in Warriors loss v Kings

The Golden State Warriors lost to the Sacramento Kings 123-117 on Wednesday night. It was a disappointing and deflating loss, because the Dubs carried a 17-point lead into the halftime locker room. The late-game execution was fairly awful, and they looked overmatched when they lost momentum.

And yet, as I wrote in the recap, it still was an encouraging performance, considering that the Kings were red-hot, at home, and fully healthy, while the Warriors were without their best defensive player, their second-best scorer, and two key bench players, while also losing their starting center in the first half.

So if the grades are more optimistic than you’re feeling after that meltdown, that’s why. As always, grades are based on my expectations of each player, with a “B” grade representing the average performance for that player.

Note: True-shooting percentage (TS) is a scoring efficiency metric that accounts for threes and free throws. Entering Wednesday’s games, league-average TS was 57.4%.

    Andrew Wiggins

    38 minutes, 25 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 turnovers, 2 fouls, 8-for-20 shooting, 5-for-11 threes, 4-for-5 free throws, 56.3% TS, -8

A very strong all-around game for Wiggins. He was the best scorer for the Warriors for much of the night, both when they built a big lead and when they were scrambling to stop the bleeding in the fourth quarter. He had some clutch shots late in the game that would get a lot of attention had the Warriors won.

    Pretty good defensive effort, too.

    Grade: A-
Post-game bonus: Led the team in points.

    Gary Payton II

    13 minutes, 8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 turnovers, 3 fouls, 3-for-6 shooting, 1-for-3 threes, 1-for-1 free throws, 62.1% TS

Kind of an extreme highs-and-lows game for GPII. He had some brilliance on both ends of the court, but was also a bit out of control with an rather painful four turnovers and three fouls in just 13 minutes of action.

    Grade: C

    Kevon Looney

    9 minutes, 0 points, 2 rebounds, 2 fouls, 0-for-3 shooting, 0.0% TS, +6

Looney moved back into the starting lineup, though it seems the plan wasn’t to play him too much, even before he left the game with illness. I didn’t think he played well, but I won’t be too harsh on him given the sickness.

    Grade: C+
Post-game bonus: Best plus/minus on the team.

    Buddy Hield

    25 minutes, 17 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, 1 turnover, 2 fouls, 6-for-12 shooting, 5-for-9 threes, 70.8% TS, +3

Pretty darn good game for Hield. He got back to being the aggressive, efficient scorer that the Warriors thought they had earlier in the season, while maintaining the improved defense that has been the mark of his play over the last month. He was also exceptionally timely, with some ultra-clutch shots.

    Grade: A

    Steph Curry

    34 minutes, 14 points, 3 rebounds, 12 assists, 3 turnovers, 1 foul, 6-for-11 shooting, 1-for-4 threes, 1-for-1 free throws, 61.2% TS, +2

Kind of a weird Curry game. He went full quarterback mode, deferring to teammates and looking for shooters constantly, en route to a season-high 12 assists. That looked like a brilliant choice in the first half, when his teammates were making seemingly every open shot.

But it looked less like a choice and more like settling in the second half, when the Warriors needed Curry to start scoring and he simply couldn’t get open very frequently. Sacramento focused their entire defensive plan at him, and while Curry still had a pretty good game, the Warriors just aren’t going to win many games when he scores 14 points.

    Grade: B+
Post-game bonus: Led the team in assists.

    Moses Moody

    26 minutes, 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 fouls, 4-for-10 shooting, 3-for-7 threes, 55.0% TS, -4

On a day where the Dubs gave the ball away 19 times, Moody was one of just three players (along with the two centers) to not turn the ball over. And for that we thank him.

He also had some big threes in this game, even if the overall shooting line was slightly below-average efficiency. The Warriors need more rebounds from him if they’re going to play him at power forward, but his energy and aggression were very welcome sights.

    Grade: B

    Trayce Jackson-Davis

    24 minutes, 11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 4 fouls, 4-for-6 shooting, 3-for-6 free throws, 63.7% TS, -2

A really strong TJD game. He played pretty good defense, even against Domantas Sabonis, and had a very crafty offensive game. He’s really showing an improved ability to finish through contact, and he had some delightful passes as he’s starting to learn how to find his back-cutters. Super aggressive on the glass as well.

    Grade: A-
Post-game bonus: Led the team in rebounds.

    Lindy Waters III

    14 minutes, 3 points, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 turnover, 1 foul, 1-for-2 shooting, 1-for-2 threes, 75.0% TS, -10

Waters is such a luxury to have at the back of the rotation, but games like this are a reminder that he is, indeed, towards the back of the rotation, and shouldn’t be relied on nightly when the team is healthy. Just a tough game for him to get much going.

    Grade: C
Post-game bonus: Tied for the worst plus/minus on the team.

    Dennis Schröder

    21 minutes, 7 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 turnovers, 3 fouls, 3-for-8 shooting, 1-for-3 threes, 43.8% TS, -5

For one reason or another, I remain optimistic that Schröder will figure things out and be the quality veteran he’s been for the better part of a decade for the Warriors at some point. It’s really, really, really hard to adjust to a new team on the fly, let alone one with as unique of an offensive system as the Warriors have. But he’s really struggling right now, and Steve Kerr moving him out of the starting lineup seems a pretty clear admission of that.

    Grade: D+

    Quinten Post

    15 minutes, 5 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 1 turnover, 5 fouls, 2-for-5 shooting, 1-for-4 threes, 50.0% TS, -10

How fun to see Post get some serious minutes! After the game, Kerr said he wants to get the rookie into the rotation more going forward, and you can see why. Post has size that we haven’t seen on the Warriors in a while, which showed up with Post’s rebounding and overall presence. And his threat as a pick-and-pop scorer could really unlock new things for the offense.

He got schooled a little bit against an All-Star in Sabonis (hence the five fouls), but for the most part he more than held his own.

    Grade: B+
Post-game bonus: Tied for the worst plus/minus on the team.

    Gui Santos

    23 minutes, 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 turnover, 1 foul, 6-for-9 shooting, 4-for-5 threes, 88.9% TS, 0 +/-

I don’t know how the minutes are going to break down when Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, and Kyle Anderson return. But it seems pretty clear that Santos has to stay in the rotation right now. He’s playing strong defense and quickly learning how to avoid fouling and rookie mistakes. He’s shooting 12-for-18 from three-point range. He makes good passes and plays within the offense. And he seems to always be the hardest-working person on the court.

    Did the Dubs find something???

    Grade: A+

    Wednesday’s DNP-CDs: Pat Spencer
Wednesday’s inactives: Kyle Anderson, Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski

In the Warriors’ recent loss to the Kings, Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Gui Santos received mixed grades for their performances.

Steph Curry, despite scoring a game-high 30 points, struggled to find his rhythm early on and had a few costly turnovers down the stretch. His shooting was off at times, but he managed to hit some key shots to keep the Warriors in the game. Overall, Curry’s performance was solid but not his usual dominant self.

Andrew Wiggins had a quiet night, scoring just 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting. He struggled to get going offensively and was unable to make a significant impact on the game. Wiggins will need to step up and be more aggressive in future games to help the Warriors secure wins.

Gui Santos, the rookie forward, showed flashes of potential in limited minutes. He contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, showcasing his versatility and energy on the court. Santos still has a lot to learn and improve on, but his performance was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing game for the Warriors.

Overall, the Warriors will need their key players like Curry and Wiggins to step up and lead the team to victories. Santos’ development will be crucial as the season progresses, and his contributions off the bench will be key to the team’s success. The Warriors will need to bounce back from this loss and regroup for their upcoming games.
